Review: Dance music has always been a cyclical thing, constantly reinventing well-loved old genres and referencing dancefloor hits of times gone by. In the mid 1990s, disco house was all the rage. Now, a new generation of producers are turning disco records into groovy house cuts. If any of the nu-school disco/house brigade is unfamiliar with how it was done in the "good old days", they'd be advised to listen to this release from Selected Works. Originally released in 1997, it features two stomping, snaking disco-house reworks from Mousse T (yes, he of "Horny" fame) that sample a familiar Chic disco staple. Of the two, it's the cute, piano-laden Dub that presses all the right buttons, but both are pleasingly heavy.

Review: Simple yet irresistibly funky glitterball house from Selected Works on this disco-shaped house delight from German label Peppermint Jam. Rocking a soulful and driving sample, SW add a bare bones beat and some motorik synths and let the groove simmer. On a slower and more filtered tip, Downboy Down's dub peps up the snares and adds guitars fro a fresh and summery alternative, while another SW newie, "Uncle Sam", drives a fast 4-bar disco loop into the ground thanks to some canny looping and string fills.
