Seuil At Juno Download

Review: Having bounced around various European house and techno labels, Paris-based producer Seuil now finds himself nestling in the snug bosom of Circus Company, an imprint famed for its leftfield approach to house and techno. Given his development in recent years, it seems a fitting home. "Don't Trust", featuring the weary, melancholic vocals of Dop, is deep house with a bitter, almost fragile, aftertaste - superb, but not your average floorfiller. Elsewhere, there are more obviously club-friendly sounds, with the jazz drums, moody chords and heady builds of "1999" proving thrillingly irresistible. The bumpin', stripped-back "Jomone" is equally impressive.

Review: He used to be one of the leading lights in the mnml explosion, but Alexis Benard aka Seuil has enjoyed an artistic volte face. "In The Moon" sets the tone for this EP, as sexy, languid chords and a breathy vocal intertwine and unfold over dense but loose house beats. Seuil ramps up the tempo a few notches on the title track, but that doesn't detract from Jaw's wonderfully soulful vocals or the scuffled, dubby beats that used to be the preserve of US garage producers. Speaking of dubs, there is also an excellent, tougher-edged dub version of "Ultravision" available for those who like it tracky.
