Review: Detroit may be a city steeped in house and techno heritage, but Sinistarr is flying the Michigan flag when it comes to contemporary drum and bass. Here the producer serves up the "Aquamech" single on the Genres Be Damned imprint, with the title track a stripped back, deeply cerebral excursion into languid beats and soulful vocal snippets. Remixes come from Tapir No Snare (our pick of the bunch), Giocator and Calculon. Highly recommended.

Review: Hailing from the Motor City and with noticeable Detroit techno influences in his productions, Sinistarr brings a refreshing twist to bog standard drum & bass with his latest release on the legendary Metalheadz label. Although experimental and somewhat quirky, A-Side "Mainstay" is far from being exclusively home listening and certainly deserves a place on the dancefloor. On the flip, "Solar 9" features French DJ/producer Redeyes and is a much more abstract, radical offering. Much like Marmite "you either love it or hate it" and frankly, like Marmite, we love it! With a mish-mash of one-shot samples, stabs and hits and an odd sounding vocal snippet declaring "you can't tell us how to play our music, you can't tell us how to play our sound", it's a miracle that it all gels together, but it does, and well!
