Stac At Juno Download

Review: British Soul singer Stac has already had her powerful and dreamy vocals reworked by the likes of Scrimshire, Bonobo and King Knut in the past, and now comes two new mixes of her sumptuous "All Or Nothing" track. Both nicely chilled excursions into nu-jazz soundscapes, Lenafrosaxon lets the multi-tracked vocals billow and fold over itself, creating a chorus that hits you like warm wave. Camden's Blue Daisy brings in some hypnotic glitchy textures, with the buzzing top-end nicely counterbalanced by some thumping beats and bass. Seriously soul enhancing stuff..

Review: From the opening acapella strains of delicate opener "Same Old Things", you'll be enchanted with this album from Stacey Dowdeswell aka Stac. Full of folky-soul and pared-down acoustic pop, songs like "All or Nothing" showcase Stac's voice perfectly as she switches from whispers to full-throated choruses. With added touches such as Matthew Halsall on trumpet and the Heritage Orchestra's string section, the album has a great range of goodies - from the 60's-flavoured "Glory" to the incredible closer - a voice and strings version of Solomon Burke's "Cry To Me".

Review: The second instalment of remixes from Stac's debut album yields another top batch of soulful, funky and experimental nuggets. One of the album's highlights - Stac's cover of Soloman Burke's "Cry To Me" - is handled brilliantly by Herma Puma, who fleshes out the beatless original with soft yet funky loops, while elsewhere LenAfrosaxon, King Knut, Blue Daisy and Scrimshire each work some magic (check out the latter's uptempo soul rework of "Strainger" as a starting place). The real coup is landing Ashley Beedle, who weighs in with a stunning Detroit house mix of "Glory" that has to be heard to be believed.
