Stateless At Juno Download

Review: Taken from Stateless' second album "Matilda", "Assassinations" is a cracking choice of single - an anthemic post-rock song embellished with plenty of daring instrumentation and some hugely affecting vocals from singer Chris James. The organic sounding drums and claps gel well with the distant chiming melodies, until the whole tune gets taken up a gear and launches into a crunchy thrash. Look out for forthcoming remixes from Falty DL and Om Unit too.

Review: Taken from their excellent Ninja Tune album Matilda, Stateless features vocals from Brooklynite Shara Worden as well as arrangements from the band's own Kidkanevil - himself a solo producer and DJ of ever-growing repute. Beautifully pared-down, with a distant guitar keeping time for Worden's close-mic'd vocals, its both mildly sinister and very soulful stuff - the former exaggerated wonderfully on their distorted, over-driven Blue Daisy Flammable mix. Fellow Ninja label-mate Slugabed cooks up a very modern mix of 808 hits and hazy, detuned vocals on his mix, while the inclusion of "Blue Fire" and "Bloodstream" connect the band with their future-soul ethos perfectly.
