Review: An act that have succeeded in creating their own distinct niche in modern funk music, through many years of perseverance and thousands of sweat-drenched shows, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings returned to the studio with force this year for "Show Time!", a twelve-track lesson in how to evoke JB, Texan funk and '60s soul in style. Two part opener "Genuine" sets the tone, with Jones' huge vocals soaring over a complex yet groovesome rhythm, while the slower Philly balladeering of "Longer And Stronger" acts as a nice break from the paced-up popcorn funk. Best of all though is their stunning, rootsy cover of Shuggie Otis' incredible "Inspiration Information". Truly worth the price of the album alone.
