Review: Treading the fine line between authentic old school homage while offering something original is a hard challenge... Thankfully Basement Freaks and Timothy Wisdom have nailed it. Conjuring up the spirit of Two Live Crew, Young MC and Sugar Hill, Timothy delivers with true clarity and character over BF's superfly slap-bass riff. It's a match made in funk heaven. The remix line-up is more than healthy with all styles catered. Highlights include the percussion ripples on Jayl Funk's re-rub and the smoochy sonics on Slynk's deeper remake.

Review: If anyone ever tells you The Four Seasons' disco bomb "Oh What A Night" can't be 'badboy'd up, you are legally allowed to slap them in the face with a pair of headphones. "Wild For The Night" takes said classic (and one or two other cheeky samples) bang into the future with booty shaking glee. Elsewhere we find the equally glittering "Ghetto Disco". Loaded with a vibrant horn and organ hook and a bassline that splutters funk juice every which way but loose, it's yet another slice of guaranteed dancefloor dynamite from The Funk Hunters.

Review: New from the Bombastic Jam label, Canadian Timothy Wisdom mixes lively hip-hop swagger with nu-funk breaks and bass on the "Get Your Hands Up". The title tune mixes Kanye-esque auto-tune choruses with old school verses, while "Black 'n' Tan" brings in a jazzy swing and "Born To Rock The Party" mixes electro stutter-synths with frat-boy lyrics.

Review: Hot off the back of last week's originals comes this expertly curated remix package. DJ AKA's take on "Get Your Hands Up" adds a cool mid-range electro bass twist to the hip-hop attitude. The Spank! meanwhile injects "Jiggle What You Got" with a freak-out inducing hit of pulsating, slow-stomp filtered funk. Finally Nynfus Corporation add a turbo skank to the swing-inspired "Black N Tan". Keep those hands up... while Mr Wisdom's in town they're going to stay that way.

Review: Straying away from his usual funky realm, Canadian producer Timothy Wisdom trades in his raw, uptempo drums for a more down-low set of glitch-hop beats on this new EP for East Van Digital. "I Want Out" for example shows an affinity for bassy hip-hop producers like Kidkaneval thanks to its sinuous leads and galactic echo textures. "Represent The Real" shows a definite dubstep influence whilst still being hip-hop to the core, while "The Fade" is perfect for fans of melodic and distinctly futuristic breaks.

Review: A Canadian, an Australian, a German label and artwork done by a fella in Japan; if this whopping four-tracker doesn't live up to its title of "Global Collaboration" then nothing will. The sounds sizzle with an international dancefloor tongue, too. "We Will Not Back Down" flirts with dubstep in a glitch, mean n' moody way, "Ready Set Party" is quintessential electro-ridden nu funk, "Influence" is a major league party breaks piece with a bassline so savage it'll cut your ears off given half the chance, "Pound For Pound" is a more dramatic piece with a vocal that's rather reminiscent of the Dub Pistols. Play them anywhere across the globe and they'll smash it. Guaranteed.
