Review:
Midlands funk peddler Totalcult isn't one for looking on the past with rose-tinted glasses (boom, tish). Instead he likes to take the vibes of grooves past and weld them to sturdy modern production techniques. This album is full of vintage flavours married to tough beats, deep bass and a fair share of rapping to boot, as evidenced on the breaky "Tica Tok Rocker", the bouncey "Bob Ya Head" and the splendidly-titled "Undisputed Banger".

Review:
From Birmingham to Brazil! Prolific Midlands nu funkateer Total Cult comes through with an EP of disco flecked house party business for the Royal Soul imprint out of Sao Paolo. "Disco Call" leans heavily on a disco classic, laying down some neat Beastie Boys scratches atop a bassline that just demands dancing, whilst "Nice Disco" is all late night Studio 54 vibes crossed with a smattering of famous raps. The accompanying remix of "Nice Disco" from Royal Soul's Trotter (no relation to Derek) adds a few more ounces of bounce. The bumping 80s new jack swing of "Keep On Truckin" is the best thing here - not least for the flu filled Bussa Bus raps throughout.

Review:
These days with all this 'is it a movie or is it a video game' shenanigans a la Call of Duty, it's sometimes nice to just go back to the old skool, to the days of Donkey Kong, where life was simple and video games simply entailed the player having to jump over pixelated barrels to save the day. Here Totalcult have done the same thing musically, delivering some raw and crackley old-skool funk grooves, albeit with some tough-but-subtle modern beats. After all, how long before musical barrel jumping gets boring, eh?
