Review: Always attuned to smart remix moves, Blu Mar Ten turn to the blossoming talents of the LHF collective to rework their "All Or Nothing" track. Coming to life on a bed of pads and haunting vocal howls, it's quite a restrained beat that Helix and LDM take on. The atmosphere is a much more mellow affair than you might expect, using lilting strings and gently bubbling bongos to soothe rather than agitate. As the track progresses, it builds in a subtle crescendo of symphonic melodies crafted from these largely organic means, until it plateaus on a beatless bed for the ultimate eyes-closed finish.

Review: There have been whispers of an album from fast rising UK producer Hackman for some time now, and though it's yet to arrive, this free download should give some indication as to its direction. "Forgotten Notes" perhaps shows the producer at his most melancholic, combining bittersweet keys and mournful vocals with some deep bass. But don't let that deceive you - it's still filled with the upbeat garage flutter, and packs more colour into four minutes than the scores of house-influenced bass pretenders that are following in his wake.

Review: Wonderfully titled label Slime was founded in 2010 with the firm intent to 're-capture the wide-eyed thrill of the first age of rave'. Since then they have put out a multitude of forward thinking releases all leading to this, their second label compilation. Literally bulging with underground goodness, the tracklist weighs in at 26 full-length tunes (plus a free one!). Highlights of all this madness include the sparse 2 step of "Jaded" by Akin, the twitching, percussive "Sunwan" by SPD, the dreamy 3am RnB vibes of "Communication" by Totte, the deeply seductive rimshot house of DYP's "Vices" and the ominous rave of "There's No Way" by Frequent Flyers.

Review: Amid much anticipation, Distal's album crash lands on Tectonic in a myriad of electronic styles all thoroughly typical of the plucky Atlantan. There's raw juke-isms on "Preach On Hustle", where the Chicago style gets slowed down and spread out, while on "Around The Fire" you'll find a swung techno framework full of alluring melodies just under the surface. There's melodica-baiting dubstep on "Rattlesnake", while electro gets pitched down for the peak time banger "House Party Five". Everywhere you turn, Distal's supremely developed production stands out, whatever vibe he's turning his hand to. In the end, that skill becomes the glue that holds this free ranging album together.

Review: It's been some two years since Shackled, George Fitzgerald's last outing on Hotflush and it's fair to say the landscape both occupy has shifted some in that period. Both artist and label are fully entrenched in the current UK house explosion and Fitzgerald's return to Paul Rose's label with Thinking Of You seems primed to reverberate across festivals, Croatian beaches and warehouse spaces as the summer months roll on. A prominent track in Fitzgerald's recent Essential Mix, "Thinking Of You" sees the producer continue to refine an approach to forthright house music shown on recent dalliances with Aus Music and Hypercolour and feels almost proto fidget in execution. The techier accompaniment "Nighttide Lover" is drawn from a similar fist pumping palette and features rolling vocal manipulation reminiscent of Switch in his heyday.

Review: Alex Green and Damon Kirkham's debut album has been a long time coming. It follows an action-packed decade that's seen them morph from drum & bass punishers to dubstep fusionists and, more recently, bass music experimentalists. With such experience behind them, it's perhaps no surprise that Resolution 653 is an eclectic set. What's more surprising is the expansiveness of their approach. Within the album's 13 tracks lies glass-clear electronic futurism, brain-warping acid tracks, murky dusbtep, slo-mo 4/4 sweetness, hard edged electro bounce, off-kilter IDM and, naturally, 140 BPM bass bangers. As a summary of where British bass music's at in 2011, it's unsurpassed.

Review: Returning to Hotflush after the label helped his solo breakthrough last year, Lando Kal is here with more of that hybrid house music which he is fast making his own. There's a key sound that seems to be emerging with his productions of late, a kind of ring modulation that Kal is slapping on his synths that makes them both warm and eerie in the same note. "Rhythm Sektion" plays off this duality perfectly, making for a seductive mid-paced dancefloor jam. "Inquisition" goes deeper on the details, with some intricate percussion and a bouncy bassline filling a mildly bleak atmosphere.

Review: After pairing up for the "Paranormal Activity" release back in 2011, the Tectonic main man and one of the most dynamic producers to come out of the UK funky scene team up for another round. "Shoulda Rolla" is an impeccable, unfussy dubstep groover with classic icy textures, snappy percussion and an anchoring bass wobble that was born to work the dance without any showboating tactics. Roska goes it alone on "Asbestos" with an equally moody slice of rhythmic function that cruises at 140 while the synths come in blasts of robotic weirdness. Like so many of the great Tectonic 12"s, you're presented with a pair of club-focused stompers that keep the dubstep dream alive.

Review: Where Scuba's earlier work was typified by the same metallic sheen and monochrome hue, it's noticeable on his third album Personality just how much more colour he's letting into the mix. Whether it's the crisp electro breaks of opener "Ignition Key" or the joyous pop chimes of "July", the mood is overall far sunnier than the Scuba of before. There's drum & bass explorations being made on "Cognitive Dissonance", chart-baiting hooks aplenty and a wealth of vocal action from speeches to divas. All in all it's another essential, multi-faceted evolutionary step for the Berlin-based producer.

Review: While it might be tricky in these open-minded times for Scuba to shatter preconceptions the way that he did with his Sub:Stance mix a few years ago, this compilation should be seen really as a celebration of the man himself as a DJ. After launching with a decidedly minimalist approach, the mix meanders between pacey techno, bluesy broken beat and rolling dubstep tempos. At times the flow feels unsteady, but then it just rings true that he put this mix together for himself. Without a dancefloor to look after, who knows where many of our favourite DJs might take us?

Review: Considering its sizeable role in bringing James Blake and Mount Kimbie to the world, it makes sense for Hotflush to be looking for the next generation of post-everything electronica. Step forward then Shelter Point, a pair of young producers with all the sonic tools to fill the gap. Opening track "Braille" is characterised by the same billowing organ sounds as Blake's work with softly spoken vocals that belie a contemporary indie sensibility, while the clip-clop percussion and downtempo piano of "Forever For Now" recalls Mount Kimbie's "Before I Move Off". "Hold On Me" sees a funky neon synth melody contrasted with some trap beats and evil bassline. The most striking track however is "Sleep Easy", a vocal ballad whose 80s easy-listening style is like a loose limbed, contemporary take on early Junior Boys.

Review: South London Ordnance's rise has been nothing short of meteoric over the past year, and now he officially joins the aristocracy of bass music with his debut release for Scuba's Hotflush. "Revolver" is pretty much the most refined example of the current wave of tech-bass, pairing steely, swung beats with a roaring sample sounding like a dying jet engine, before moving through a multitude of dubbier techno moods. On the flip, "Transmission Funk" is perhaps the lightest thing he's produced contrasting pulsing bass and severe plate glass tones with shimmering background harmonics, all held together with his signature structural scaffold of firm kicks and sharp, rolling snares.
