Review: A/T/O/S stands for A Taste Of Struggle, and it's safe to say that Amos and Truenoys have certainly put their backs into this project. The duo were originally picked up by Mala back on 2014, and haven't looked back ever since. This is their second LP to date and, much like their debut, it touches upon many different elements of the enlarged dubstep continuum. There's plenty of tunes on here that'll liven up any dance, but this is very much a pensive and meditative bass affair. Much in line with Mala's pioneering 'deep' dubstep, it's clear that the Deep Medi head honcho has foud some new, young, and like-minded talents to carry on his dynasty.

Review: Arma is a 22 year old producer from London who heads up BodyCheck & Borough Recordings. As a producer, he is someone who's constantly evolving his sound and will not be pigeonholed to a single genre or BPM. Also known for lo-fi house under his DJ VHS moniker, his tunes are all unified through their energy and fun loving vibes. These driving, party loving joints are reminiscent of fellow Brit Mele: who signed him to his label. With their excursion into the exotic, not to mention how much they push the threshold of the lo-end! "Favela" is a bombastic joint that features some mad horn loops and powered by a relentless stomp and clatter. But it's really about Murder He Wrote's absolutely nasty, street level remix where he injects it with some proper UK funky flavour.

Review: Fresh from his exploits with King Kashmere, beat alchemist Bambooman crashes the party at Accidental with four more singular experiments; "Shudder" rolls on a stuttering break that's paced in such a way it's as much UKG as it is techno. Both "Grasp" and "M1" show off more of a house side spectrum as the former insists with an almost Detroitian charm while "M1" scrapes strange strings to create unique texture. Finally "Kyrian" takes us on a futurist twist on broken beat with spacious kicks and a warm, fat analogue synth. Some say shudder, we say goosebumps...

Review: Birmingham's Bassboy is on a mission straight to the top at the moment and his new single "Badboy" is further evidence of his talents. It's a grimey, street level, lo-end assault backed up by his on-point, rapid-fire rhyming while contrasted by some uplifting house keys. The infectious wobble continues on the raw groove of "Move" featuring Pz Da Architect. Final track "Loyalty" features the sultry vocals of Aria on here, which really lifts this already great track to other heights.

Review: Rebearth is a new label specialising in bass, bassline, UK garage plus 'more', it claims. For their first release, Birmingham based producer Bassboy has been making waves for years, according to the label, and has been pioneering the bassline sound with his heavy basslines (naturally!) and ear for infectious, off-kilter drum grooves. On "Boom" he teams up with Chester's Blaq Max to rework a classic Lil Nasty vocal sample into a street level dancefloor joint that is truly fierce and bombastic.

Review: Bassline Bangers has become the preferred codename of LA-based producer 6BLOCC. His material for Digital 6 is becoming increasingly unmissable and, to a larger extent, inimitable. Tagged as 'bass', his tunes do much more than the required dance formula and, instead, branch out into fields more closely related to dub, reggae, and jungle. This is the third instalment of the series, and the dude offers six strong cuts for you to digest and mull over; "Atmosphere" is what kicks the flow into motion thanks to a stunning hybrid mix of grime and sped-up dubstep, whereas "Bad Boy Style" adds the ragga flavor to a bed of hazy jungle breaks. "Labrinth" is another stunner on here, this time bringing a considerably stronger techno flex into its beat, but it's "Soundboy" and its lethal waves of low frequencies that steal the show and grab all the creds. Sick.

Review: Already under heavy vinyl pressure, Deep Heads sister-stable OTE finally unleash three more definitive cuts from Manchester's finest, Biome. Each track exploring a different corner of the dance.. "Turn" is the theme tune to a sci-fi tragedy that's yet to be written. Evocative and charged with rolling drama, there's a real narrative to rolling groove and momentum. "Remembrance" takes a step back for more of a deep tech perspective before we tap out with the cascading breakbeat rolls of "Niagra". A hurricane of emotional pads wrap around subtle rave influences to create a timeless floor-burner that unites all corners. Serious business, as always from Biome.

Review: The endlessly talented Blackdown is back on the feverishly gracious Keysound imprint for a new batch of bass-driven, high-tech dance cuts. This time, however, it's a multi-mix affair, where our man Blackdown lays down four versions of the "Keysound Sessions Anthem". The Feverish Weightless mix opens with an Optical-style fold of mutant bass engulfing the barren slices of percussion floating in mid-air, followed by the more kinetic Technorollage mix, where a hint of 4/4 is injected amid the groove's rugged and improvisational beat structure. The original cut sounds like a strain of dubstep that could have easily been conceived by the UK's legendary jungle pioneers thanks to its subtle hints of break science, while the 8bar version takes us all the way to grimesville, and ties this EP off with a grizzly tone of voice.

Review: Londoner Blay Vision is known for his cold, hard instrumentals (he's also done a track sampling Phil Collins but that's another story). Last year he dropped the weighty LP, The Vision, which didn't mess about. Now he's back, again on Lit City Trax with a one-track attack and it features vocals. Over a four-minute hyped backing track, we get harsh slice of reality through some pretty honest grime MC'ing. Strong.

Review: You'd imagine Clap! Clap! to hail from some mysterious, far-away contient but, in fact, Domenico Crisci is from Florence, a city you wouldn't immediately associate with tribalistic dance flavours. That is, until now. This is his second LP for London's excellent Black Acre label and, thourghout its stupendous twelve tracks, there are appearances from Planet Mu's John Wizards, the OY duo, and another like-minded tribal enthusiants from Italy, HDADD. This is a truly engrossing album, filled with tropical instrumentation, worldly chanting, and an altogether 'outernational' vibe. Dance to it, chill with it, leave on it the background. Whatever you do with it, it's bound to go down a storm, especially heard in its entirety. Don't sleep!

Review: Belgium's Clearlight is most certainly dominating the bass domain as of late, particularly the realm of deeper, darker, more cerebral-minded dubstep. In essence, the dude is carrying forwards the tradition set by Mala et al., in the past. He returns to Subaltern with six post-apocalyptic slices of hardcore continuum-funk, opening the skies with the broken sonic shards of "Fractal Clouds", an utterly beatless affair, which falls neatly into the preposterously itchy percussive groove of the minimialistic "Illness Point". "Magic Service" lays out a little bit of tranquility thanks to its placid beats and synths, and "Carousel" evolves that mood into an eerie, grey-scaled beat sway, but it's "Back Liquid" and "Subcounciousness" that provide the most alluring moments on this tidy yet sinister blockade of bass-weight. Top stuff.

Review: Russian producer Colorhythm returns on London's Modern Ruin following up some great beats by Breaka, in particular, on the last outing. It's intensely paranoid and nefarious bass music of the deeper strains on the immersive "Lavina" while the title track is drum and bass on downers; imagine playing an Ed Rush & Optical record on -8 and you get the picture. Also of worthy mention is "Bionic" which appears in its original version as well as being remixed by Stayhigh; where the track takes on a life of its own with its juke style stutter vocals, jagged beats and wonky synths firing off all over the place.

Review: Matt Benyayer and Tom Edwards are the London based production duo Dark Sky. Having met at secondary school, Dark Sky formed out of a mutual love for the ever evolving London electronic music scene; a love that the duo have always explored through not only their DJ sets but also their productions. The new single "Kilter" is a dark journey track engineered for maximum dancefloor drama. Yes it has the mandatory wonky synth lead happening, but it's a wicked one, bearing the true grit of analogue and backed by some rusty rhythm patterns that work a treat. Second offering "Acacia" is more deep and gentle to an extent, with its sublime pads and hypnotic bleep melody backed by some sultry vocal samples and dusty barely there rhythms.
