Review: A nu-funk remix of The Mommas & The Poppas' "California Dreaming". Just writing those words seems preposterous. But trust us, Tim McVicar's take on the 60s hippy classic really works! Squidgy bass and chop-slapping beats a-go-go, by the end of the summer it will be illegal not to play this in BBQ and beach sets. Review: If you're after cheeky, rump-shaking breaks heaviness with a dash of old skool charm and more than a few familiar samples, you could do worse than check out the ongoing Bomb Strikes series. This split EP showcases more material designed to induce jumping-around and other dancefloor silliness. Pimpsoul delivers just that in the shape of "Rock You", a funky kick-up-the-pants disguised as a slick house/breaks/disco mash-up. Neon Steve goes jungle on his epic wobble-a-thon "Blindside", while Bryx wobbles and stomps his way through a bro-step version of Ninja Tune fave "The Terrorist". Heavy? You bet!

Review: More from undisputed breaks mash-up king A Skillz, whose impressive productivity shows no signs of slowing down. As with previous outings in the Insane Bangers series, there's much to admire - not least A Skillz' usual blend of classic old skool breaks, wobbly basslines and familiar samples. "Express Yourself" blends elements of Charles Wright's "Express Yourself" with rump-shaking '80s breaks and some serious wobble. "Get Up (Sex Machine)" meanwhile, puts The Godfather of Soul through the ringer, inserting a rocket up the backside of one of his greatest hits via pulverising bass and breakbeats so sharp you could cut a steak with 'em.

Review: Just weeks have passed since Bombastic Jam let loose with the Basement Freaks remix album and they're up to their antics again with this tremendously funky EP from the Moguls. "Block Rockin" is instant party with a playful vocal chant, a killer electro bassline and some excellently executed use of the six string. "Backfire" struts with a low swung Shaft vibe and a killer sample taken from cult film Kill The Moonlight (which, incidentally, inspired a well-known Beck lyric). "B-Boy" picks up the tempo with a string-drenched disco hook and scratch vocal sample that wouldn't have gone amiss on early Freestylers records. For added badboy thrills, head to the grand finale as Basement Freaks remixes "Block Rockin", giving it just a touch of growl and gristle.

Review: Polish mash-up merchant DJ Twister can always be relied upon to deliver the kind of tight bootleg blends that send dancefloors into a flurry of flailing arms and instinctive, animal-like yelps and cheers. This latest release is no different, containing a slew of bangers. As the title suggests, there's a chunky, robust swing to each of the cuts. "Handclap Swing" offers a floor-bating 21st century re-boot of funk staple "The Handclap Song", while opener "Hip-Hop Swing" laces a familiar party rap vocal over a bumpin' rhythm that weighs in somewhere between breaks and D&B. "Swing Or Not", meanwhile, turns The Fugees "Ready Or Not" into a skittish junglist rinse-out.

Review: Believe it or not, this 12 track boogie attack is actually an EP! Shimmying its way into your lugholes with nu funk gusto, it sounds much more like an album to us. And a ruddy good album, to boot. One minute it's all about the slap bass popping, the next we see the b-boys rocking, Jayl's all-encompassing party remit is accessible and far reaching. We can't list all 12 cuts here, but for a sense of Jayl's variety and sonic scope head for the low-swung, early Kraak & Smaakesque soul shock out "Everybody" and the deep percussive house shakedown "The Last Night". Fluent party vibes with an eclectic tongue, whether you call it an EP or an album, it's a remarkably attractive proposition.

Review: After breaking through with some powerful EPs on Night Slugs, Girl Unit is back to continue what he started. Interestingly, the grimey element in his earlier output has been replaced by a screamingly loud electro influence, positioned in the kind of snappy funk favoured by EDMX and his Breakin Records posse. From "Ensemble (Club Mix)" to "Plaza", the sharp edges of the synth work chafe against crisp drum machine workouts, leaving six cold crush bangers in their wake. It's something of a departure for Girl Unit, but he's absolutely nailed the target sound with tracks that will absolutely tear up the dance.

Review: We're a bit annoyed at Timewarp Greece here at Juno HQ. We've waited four long years for this follow up to their hip-wigglingly funky debut compilation! Some members of staff had bitten down their finger nails so badly in anticipation they were gnawing at bare knuckle. Luckily they've now got something much more wholesome to munch on, and weighing in at a whopping 28 tracks, this will take them about four years to digest. From bongo boogie-woogie ("Elpuma" - Afternoons In Stereo) and jazz-flavoured sunshine house (Trotter - "At The Pool") to low-swung sleazy breakbeat funk (Timewarp Inc - "Start With An A") and woozy Latin wig-outs (Auditors Domination - "Rempeto") this hefty party compendium more than makes up for the wait.

Review: Already swimming in support from spinners such as the Dub Pistols, JFB, Pimpsoul and Omegaman, Canadian funk duo TFH have hooked up with fellow breaks-head L&C for this exhilarating four-tracker. Review: This is a bit of a treat for funk breaks fans, as leading label Boogie Boutique gathers together a selection of its finest floor-filling bangers. With cheeky mash-ups and bootleg remixes from the likes of Hayz, Ursula 1000 and Nick Fonkyson, there's much to enjoy, not least the sheer silliness of some of the rump-shaking fusions. Check, for example, the anthemic grooves of Nine Lives The Cat's "Let Me In" (a brilliantly executed fusion of "Just Be Good To Me" and "Cross The Tracks") or Badboe's "Show Me Ghetto". None of the cuts will win you brownie points with chin-strokers, but they'll certainly smash up the dance - and that's all that matters.

Review: For the 20th instalment of the happy-go-lucky Bomb Strikes bootleg series, label regulars Moquee and Pimpsoul join forces. Those who've enjoyed their previous work will no doubt be salivating already - or at least dribbling profusely. "Keep Pounding" is typical of their cheeky, party-hearty style, turning shuffling classic "The Beat Goes On" into a snappy, stepping, glitch-laden breaks banger. "Let It Pop", meanwhile, wobbles and raves in all the right places, lacing a familiar hip-hop vocal over a typically pounding backdrop. Closer "Do It" sits somewhere between the two tracks, cutting up Chic's "Le Freak" and adding a silly, rectum-slackening bassline to propel things forward.

Review: A stellar partnership for this latest volume in Bombstrikes' series of funk 'n' breaks party weapons, which came about after Ali B called in on Nick Thayer during a recent Australian tour. The pair fuse together a wild set of influences and sounds, as on opener "Music" which evokes Cypress Hill, Jay Z and classic '60s soul whilst still staying true to their block-rocking breaks sound. "NE Way" dips into a riff made famous by Dillinger and pimps it out gloriously with heavy drums while "Back To You" samples a line from one of De La Soul's classics and adds a Moog-ish bassline and all manner of funky sampled breaks.
