Review: An eight track funk attack from Poland via Spain, this is a picture perfect example of nu-funk's international reach. Calagad's control of squidgy bass shines through at every opportunity as we shake, rattle and roll the day away to his slippery disco grooves, but it's Cez 14 who really takes the spotlight with four solo tracks and collabo with Green Jesus. We haven't got space to list all of his accomplishments, but highlights include the UK rap and hooky sing-along style chorus on "The Beginning" and his insanely cheeky bootleg of the Blues Brothers fave "Rawhide" with Green Jesus. His uptempo dub skank antics on "Fallen In Love" is a very charming party piece, too. Introductions over!

Review: Cut La Roc and Tricky Micky's tongues are so far in their cheeks right here, they're almost doing rude things to themselves. Spitting sharp, snide commentary on the faults, foibles and funk-ups of his life, Tricky's lyrics are so rude they'd make Gordon Ramsay run away crying to his mum. More British than The Queen having a cup of tea in the boot of a Mini, about a million times funnier and a billion times funkier, this is a great example of unique UK party hip-hop. Just for added japes, they've thrown in a radio edit and, in case you can't relate to Micky's messed up diatribe, there's a great instrumental on board too.

Review: With only a handful of singles and remixes under their belt, Fretless shock the system with an entire album of sizzling party-starting flavours. Recruiting an impressive gang of vocalists - MC Shureshock, Funkin Irie, Q-Dup, Kween G, Jimme A, Haul - there's a strict consistency kept running throughout as we whirl and waltz amidst numerous styles. Impressive moments are plentiful. Fine examples can be found in the township style "Thin Ice" (think Paul Simon's Graceland produced by Diplo), the laid back style backpacker hip-hop of "One Life" and the slamming breakbeat battle dance of "El A Bongardo". You want more? Good, there's nine more tracks on offer here, each one as good as the last. Debut albums don't come much funkier.

Review: Just weeks have passed since Bombastic Jam let loose with the Basement Freaks remix album and they're up to their antics again with this tremendously funky EP from the Moguls. "Block Rockin" is instant party with a playful vocal chant, a killer electro bassline and some excellently executed use of the six string. "Backfire" struts with a low swung Shaft vibe and a killer sample taken from cult film Kill The Moonlight (which, incidentally, inspired a well-known Beck lyric). "B-Boy" picks up the tempo with a string-drenched disco hook and scratch vocal sample that wouldn't have gone amiss on early Freestylers records. For added badboy thrills, head to the grand finale as Basement Freaks remixes "Block Rockin", giving it just a touch of growl and gristle.
