Review: For the 20th instalment of the happy-go-lucky Bomb Strikes bootleg series, label regulars Moquee and Pimpsoul join forces. Those who've enjoyed their previous work will no doubt be salivating already - or at least dribbling profusely. "Keep Pounding" is typical of their cheeky, party-hearty style, turning shuffling classic "The Beat Goes On" into a snappy, stepping, glitch-laden breaks banger. "Let It Pop", meanwhile, wobbles and raves in all the right places, lacing a familiar hip-hop vocal over a typically pounding backdrop. Review: A stellar partnership for this latest volume in Bombstrikes' series of funk 'n' breaks party weapons, which came about after Ali B called in on Nick Thayer during a recent Australian tour. The pair fuse together a wild set of influences and sounds, as on opener "Music" which evokes Cypress Hill, Jay Z and classic '60s soul whilst still staying true to their block-rocking breaks sound. "NE Way" dips into a riff made famous by Dillinger and pimps it out gloriously with heavy drums while "Back To You" samples a line from one of De La Soul's classics and adds a Moog-ish bassline and all manner of funky sampled breaks.

Review: Fact: Tom's real surname is genuinely Booze! There was a terrible mix-up between the birth registry office and off licence when he was born. Naturally Tom was upset for many years, but he took consolation by burying himself in the studio with a sampler and a keen ear for a badboy groove, and his diligence is paying off. Each of this nu-funk trio squelches and fist bumps with unashamed party brutality, the highlight being the Bob James / Perpetual Motion sampling "Point & Shoot". Venture to no disco without this!

Review: Mr Bird follows up his Bird Bird Bird album from last month with a fresh quad of nu-funk/hip-hop hybrids. "Monkey Funk" clicks some serious Cuban heels over an obese breakbeat, "Don't Say Nothing" gets all LL Cool J over an early Fatboy style guitar swing, "Glad To Be Free" goes on a more whimsical 60s jam with added flute and glockenspiel twists and "Ufo" sees Bird adding a deeper, more cosmic feather to his bow. Review: A nu-funk remix of The Mommas & The Poppas' "California Dreaming". Just writing those words seems preposterous. But trust us, Tim McVicar's take on the 60s hippy classic really works! Review: There's something rather funky in the fresh Canadian air right now, and native imprint ReSoul are breathing in six lung-fulls by the second. Review: Tru Funk have taken the nu-funk ball and run so far with it they're in a stadium four towns over. This debut full lengther from fellow Polish party starter BMD is a fine example; a collection of his previous buzz-rubs and a few newies thrown in for good measure, it's all about the booties and beef-ups. All presented in a bulbous mid-tempo breaks style, highlights include a respectfully muscular reboot of Jamie Lidell's "Feels Good", a heads-down 80s synth funk shuffle ("Off The Catwalk") and a salacious twist on Scissor Sisters with Bootsy-level slap bass freakiness ("Yo Mama").

Review: This label recently launched by DJ Spinforth (and pals) as a next step extension to his biweekly column for the Ghetto Funk blog called 'The Scour', to highlight and showcase the unsigned talent that he encounters while 'scouring' Soundcloud. The next logical step was to actually release this stuff, so here's the impressive debut compilation snappily called Scoured Cream. Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from bootleg specialists Bombstrikes - tried-and-tested mash-ups underpinned by floor-friendly breakbeats. This latest instalment comes from rising breaks star Badboe, who offers two soul-flecked groovers. Both are slightly less hectic and full-throttle than previous Bombstrikes releases, but that's no bad thing. "Shine Like A Halo" fuses a bouncing, midtempo break with wobbly (but surprisingly subtle) bass, the obligatory hip-hop samples and a dash "Son of a Preacher Man". "Masterpiece", meanwhile, takes a similarly soulful approach, contrasting Jurassic 5 raps with sweet soul vocal snatches at a dancefloor hip-hop tempo. The most cultured Bombstrikes release for some time - and that's a compliment.

Review: If your record bag/CD wallet/hard drive (delete as appropriate) is flagging under the weight of soul-sapping breakbeat bootlegs and ill-advised ghetto funk remixes, help is at hand. This compilation from Actual Sounds does contain plenty of sneaky bootlegs and ghetto funk style reworks (including one that bites "Sweet Home Alabama"), but they're all of a much higher quality than we've come to expect of late. There are snappy trips into boogie breaks territory (Big Bang Breaks' "French Funk"), wobble-funk (a thunderous version of the Jacksons' "Rockin' Robin") and Madchester revivalism ("Free Soup"), not to mention a string of booty-licious ghetto funk stompers. If this doesn't wake you up, nothing will.

Review: Madrid outfit Telephunken come through correct once again on Tremendo Big Records - a rightful home to their jaw-shattering take on breakbeat. "California Love" completely tares up Dre's and Snoop Dogg's timeless lyrics and meshes them ever so gracefully with a sweet pair of soul vocals, but "Rollin' With Telephunken" really gets things moving and squeals out one of the gnarliest basslines you'll hear in a while - not to mention its sweet chorus. "24 Hours Of Madness" is the funkiest of the lot, discombobulating the chugging beat to the point of near hysteria and it serves as further proof of Telephunken's increasingly alluring beat-thrash style.

Review: Flying the nu-funk flag loudly and proudly, Polish imprint Tru Funk hit number six in their highly collectable bootleg and bass jam series. It's instantly business as usual as we hit Cez14 and Dastardly Kuts' Supremes/David Morales blend "Keep Me Hanging". Elsewhere we find DJ Czech taking Jay Ski and the Quad City DJs and giving them a sexy low-swung bass treatment on "Sky Train". We see Lebroski & Delimentary taking lead from Afrojack with a classic b-boy sample and showing him how it's done properly. Morlack, however, steals the show with a fine rendition of De La Soul and Chaka Khan's "All Good".

Review: Ever eaten a Riddim Fruit? Rich in funk flavour and so many party nutrients they don't just hit your five a day, they're your floor-flipping 50 a day. Speaking of which, Brizzle's Mr 50 has delivered one of the label's freshest crops to date. "Low King" takes common glitch techniques on more of a cut n' paste skank vibe with some lovely horn action to boot. "Fifty 50 Funk" is more a guttural groover with a wheezing bassline and weeping synth lines a la Compton 20 years back. Finally, "Nightcrawler" leaves us wanting more thanks to its p-funk cheekiness, 8-bit trills and high-end bass zaps on the fills. Fruity!

Review: Fresh-faced funkateer Manjah steps up to the party-hardy Katakana series, and does so with distinction. Those with a penchant for Greek taverna flavours should hold tight for the rustic groove on "Orienta Patria". Nice work.

Review: Those searching for formidable, funk-fuelled party fodder should be well aware of the Riddim Fruit label, one of the more reliable sources of mash-up madness. This EP from The Allergies - complete with heavy beats, scratches, borrowed rap vocals and funk breaks aplenty - should cause carnage in those clubs that still rock the breakbeat vibe. Lead cut "Heartbreaker" sets the tone by revisiting a little known funk stomper, while "Club Spillage" fuses bottom-heavy boom-bap beats with quality raps and slick Hammond organ licks. "Seven Days" spices up a string-laden funk-soul jam with some weighty breakbeat pressure, while "Ever Live" slows the tempo for some sweet soul-hop bumpiness. Predictably solid.

Review: Destination "Afrika" via LA... Here we find Sub Slayer Skanx delving deep into jungle heritage with a muddy roller that packs the same foggy, radar-ridden breakbeat punch as the Meat Beat Manifesto's "Radio Babylon". For a more contemporary dub twist head for 6BLOCC's remix; stripping things back to a nagging 4/4 sub thump, it's the perfect blend of trad dub and stark future-minded bass music. Elsewhere we don the white gloves for the rave-tastic "Boom" while Eek-A-Mouse goes under the sample scalpel on the swashbuckling "Dub War". The junglist massive are on fine form right here.

Review: Wide-armed sounds abound on the latest Boogie Boutique offering. More hip-hop than nu-funk in places, there's great casual confidence about each of these rubs. The label's Finnish faves Rollomatik are on board for two horn-heavy joints; the p-funk block rocker "Frying Pan" and the roof raising peak time "Soul Power". Label newcomers Jimi Needles and WBBL, opt for jazzier keys and a bassline that gradually evolves into quite the glitchy gem. Jacksonville jive merchant John Farruggio finishes the set with a waltz through 80s electro, mid noughties house and late 90s big beat. Swashbuckling stuff.

Review: It's a trumpet sandwich here as Joe runs the nu-funk gamut with consummate ease and tongue-in-cheek fun. "Swinging Joe" takes the quirky 1920s standard "Dipsy Doodle" and gives it a respectful bass injection from behind while the EP finale "Java Java" ends on a similar horn-heavy swing, this time clicking more of a Latino riddim. Review: New Zealand's Alias is hip-hop to the very bone. In a previous chapter of his career he was part of the Fast Crew, supporting the likes of D12 and Busta Rhymes whenever they toured in New Zealand or Australia. And while he's shifted focus to a more explicit, nu-funk / bass sound, it still beats with a hip-hop riddim. Each of the four cuts on here ride with a raw, low-swung swagger. Review: Polish party people Tru Funk continue to champion the very best of the smile-inducing nu-funk scene with this eight tracker that provides plenty of new party breaks. DJ AKA goes for the fun jugular with "Funky Horns" coming across like KC & The Sunshine band back from the musical gym. Review: London nu-funk imprint Boogie Boutique come correct once again on the Shake It Out EP which pairs up French producer Prosper with a number of collaborators. The title track has Prosper going toe to toe with Knaresborough's finest Rory Hoy on a funk heavy cut n paste production blessed with the J-Live style delivery of Imagine This - German trio Funkanomics handle remix duties and turn in one of their trademark electrified productions that still makes ample usage of Imagine This' delivery. Following this, the superbly titled Old Skool Nemo proves his studio worth alongside Prosper on the boogie number "Get That Boogie Thing" whose speed of sound is matched by swiftness of vocal delivery from JC001 and the man Ashley Slater. Nick Fonkynson drops a remix that begs for a big beat revolution.
