Review: Some 'best-of' collections seem to arrive way too early. Arrogantly so with some artists. But when you've released 23 EPs and five albums since 2005, it's definitely justified. Especially when you've got a back cat as impressive as Mr Pluse's. Ranging from the Hammond-smashing swinger "Pleasuretown" to the skank-bounce stepper "The Market St Hustle" via the early Dub Pistols-flavoured "Never Get Old", Pluse's accomplished ability to serve any party is more than established and celebrated here. Review: Music For The People return with their eighth release by none other than main edit man, Krakowski, who has already injected a great deal of boogie retouching into the label thanks to his previous EP. "Skabotage" opens things up in true stepper style, bringing in those brass horns and placing them over some Beastie Boys lyrics to mix things up more than ever before! "The Final Skankdown" is more of a lover's rock ting, re-hashing a track that's almost too famous to name, whereas "Dubbing My Religion" adds a roots-style percussion work over yet another pop anthem. Review: Junkfood head honcho K Lab frees up some time on the release schedule for his own debut album, and not a moment too soon. Wallowing with mischief in the fields of glitch and nu-funk, there's a subversive, off-beat trippy feeling to his work that a lot of current nu-funk is missing. Take "Tricks", a real wonky roller, it's plastered in Kraftwerkian electro angularity. Take the heaving, icy slammer "The Funk Hammer", written with D&B artist Dose it's a thundering bass composition that owes just as much to Paul Hardcastle and Harold Faltermeyer as it does Freq Nasty or Bassnectar. Take "Bangvaders", a wobbling tower of sci-fi and old school references, it's reminiscent of Unique 3 and early TCR releases. Take the whole lot; it's a very accomplished album.

Review: This is a bit of a treat for funk breaks fans, as leading label Boogie Boutique gathers together a selection of its finest floor-filling bangers. With cheeky mash-ups and bootleg remixes from the likes of Hayz, Ursula 1000 and Nick Fonkyson, there's much to enjoy, not least the sheer silliness of some of the rump-shaking fusions. Check, for example, the anthemic grooves of Nine Lives The Cat's "Let Me In" (a brilliantly executed fusion of "Just Be Good To Me" and "Cross The Tracks") or Badboe's "Show Me Ghetto". None of the cuts will win you brownie points with chin-strokers, but they'll certainly smash up the dance - and that's all that matters.

Review: A stellar partnership for this latest volume in Bombstrikes' series of funk 'n' breaks party weapons, which came about after Ali B called in on Nick Thayer during a recent Australian tour. The pair fuse together a wild set of influences and sounds, as on opener "Music" which evokes Cypress Hill, Jay Z and classic '60s soul whilst still staying true to their block-rocking breaks sound. "NE Way" dips into a riff made famous by Dillinger and pimps it out gloriously with heavy drums while "Back To You" samples a line from one of De La Soul's classics and adds a Moog-ish bassline and all manner of funky sampled breaks.

Review: For the 20th instalment of the happy-go-lucky Bomb Strikes bootleg series, label regulars Moquee and Pimpsoul join forces. Those who've enjoyed their previous work will no doubt be salivating already - or at least dribbling profusely. "Keep Pounding" is typical of their cheeky, party-hearty style, turning shuffling classic "The Beat Goes On" into a snappy, stepping, glitch-laden breaks banger. "Let It Pop", meanwhile, wobbles and raves in all the right places, lacing a familiar hip-hop vocal over a typically pounding backdrop. Closer "Do It" sits somewhere between the two tracks, cutting up Chic's "Le Freak" and adding a silly, rectum-slackening bassline to propel things forward.

Review: A nu-funk remix of The Mommas & The Poppas' "California Dreaming". Just writing those words seems preposterous. But trust us, Tim McVicar's take on the 60s hippy classic really works! Review: It's perhaps a bit of a stretch to class all of these floor-friendly bootlegs as "ragga". The opener from label bosses The Dirty Dubsters is actually a skanking, dubwise, breaks-friendly rework of soul classic "Papa Was A Rolling Stone". Titan Sound's "Boom In The Jungle" sounds a bit like a slightly more dutty take on the classic reggae/hip-hop mash-ups once successfully peddled by J-Star. Perhaps the biggest cut of the lot, though, is the gargantuan skank of ZJ TZinas and Mrbigk's "My Style Is De Bomb". That said, the incessant ragga bounce of Spenda's "Get Hot Bun Dem" runs it close, if only for the amount of whoops it manages to cram into four minutes!

Review: Serious party vibes abound as El Salvadorian Itchy Bastards add three new funk nuggets to their armoury. "Party People" is a bouncing, "Where's Your Head At" sampling gem which utilises its numerous hip-hop cut ups to great effect, its shining robot electro vibe guaranteed to get you moving. "Shake Like Ya Mama" meanwhile is equally as fun, taking the classic riff from "Walk This Way" and fattening it up with analogue leads and more infectious hip-hop vocal work.
