Review:
Is it just us or are Basement Freaks albums getting funkier and funkier? As hinted with their Soul Digga EP last winter, the trio just keep getting more organic and authentic, this being their most engaging, juiciest funk LP to date. From the Alabama 3 meets the Daptones style "Gimme More" to the insanely authentic Parliament skit "Disco Boy" via the mild skank bounce, organ noodling and Troutman crooning on "Red Light Streets", this really is party dynamite. Basement Freaks are ruling the nu-funk scene right now.

Big-assed bootleg business from the Actual Sounds crew... Big Bang Breaks revisits Public Enemy on "Bring Your Whistle" and Derrick May on "Swings Of Life". Meanwhile Funk You Very Much mixes up Randy Newman with Biggie Smalls on "Leaving Cali", gives The Doors a slap with glove of glitches on "Break The Doors" and gets jiggy on a two-step vibe with "Bop A Lot". Elsewhere we find Funky Wah Wah fusing Too Short's "Blow The Whistle" with a reggae version of Marvin Gaye on "Blow It Shorty". Hit 'em up... Then knock 'em down!

Review:
Tru Funk have taken the nu-funk ball and run so far with it they're in a stadium four towns over. This debut full lengther from fellow Polish party starter BMD is a fine example; a collection of his previous buzz-rubs and a few newies thrown in for good measure, it's all about the booties and beef-ups. All presented in a bulbous mid-tempo breaks style, highlights include a respectfully muscular reboot of Jamie Lidell's "Feels Good", a heads-down 80s synth funk shuffle ("Off The Catwalk") and a salacious twist on Scissor Sisters with Bootsy-level slap bass freakiness ("Yo Mama").

Doctor P and Flux Pavilion hand over the selection duties to familiar label faces Funtcase and Cookie Monsta for the second Circus set. A 25-strong banger compendium balanced between classics and exclusives, it oozes the perfect blend of bare-faced bass attitude and tongue-in-cheek humour. From Roksonix string-soaked jig jamboree "Music In Me" to Brown & Gammon's emotional audio rainbow "Dark Matter", the Circus sound is represented at its boldest, most characterful and, above all, fun. Not a dull moment in sight - check this and remember why we all got into dubstep in the first place.

Last seen strutting about in full length form on 2011's Lasers Lasers We Need More Lasers, Bula badman Pluse delivers his second album, and it's a bit special. With a wider range than ever before, there's a great sense of playful unpredictability running throughout. From the 80s boogie-turned-60s-Rhodes-tug "No Gee Just MPC" to the grand pier style D&B swing "The Boom Times", very few party styles have been left untouched. And, just in case you were crazy enough to miss them, there's Pluse's two big releases from last year ("Never Get Old" and "Back To The Future") No lying; this rocks.

Reboot! Having set out his eclectic urban funk stall with confidence earlier this year, Johnny's commissioned a series of far-reaching rubs to complement his work. Showing serious potential from the very first rub (the Django Django sampled take on "The Prowler"), it's a hefty package that even includes some very handy DJ tools. Highlights include Mo Matic's staccato, chop'n'shot funk rub of "Maggy Doyles" and AKA's ripsnorting D&B take on "Never Get Old".

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas... Unless you're a Vegas-based producer with serious skills, like King - then it's only appropriate to spread the word as far and wide as possible. Taking grime sensibilities, mixing them with a dash of US ghetto-bass spirit and delivering them through a Brainfeeder loudhailer, King's carved a very distinctive niche over the years, summarising it neatly on this razor-sharp debut LP. From brutally barbed bashment ("Riots") to mournful, naval-gazing classic electro homages ("Getn Up") via uncompromising trappist naughtiness ("Off The Wall") Koncepts is a very well considered and arranged album that works on floors and feelings alike.

Mooqee's label Bombstrikes is doing all right for itself. So much so in fact that they've reached that milestone - a label's first compilation album. Here Mooqee has selected 25 sizzling bangers new and old that do it for him, and hopefully will do it for you too. Highlights include the compressed electro steamroller that is "Back To School", the crunch synth funky freakout of "Come On Bounce" and the devastating bass that's eaten all the pies of "Let's Do It Right Now". Heavy!

Not wanting to slow his relentless momentum, Mr Confuse is back in town, all guns blazing and clutching a remixed version of his recent LP, "Do You Realise". All 12 tracks are given a reboot from a variety of producers, highlights of which include the electro-funky big beat of Smoove's remix of ""Catch Me", the totally bonkers Bootsy Collins-esque Funkanomics remix of "Hold On" and the luxuriantly exotic Przasnik remix of "Big Livin".

Review:
Funky break veterans Skeewiff are back (having apparently won 'Best Electro-Swing Producers Of The Year 2012 award), this time with a bumper packed collection of their remixes of cult 1970s British library music (one of their favourite sources of breaks). There's lots of loungey exotic action to choose from including the sassy, brassy "Scarper", the trippy "Hyper Hippo", the driving, clenched teeth disco rock of "Jet Propelled" and the many collabs with original bandleader Syd Dale (the best of which being the kitschy D&B of "Supermarket Hustle").
