Review:
We've been waiting a LONG time for this one! Miguel Mantovani, Archerio Mantovani and Kengo San have been teasing and pleasing with their tongue-in-cheek funk on wax and on stage for years... We always knew when an album drops it would be big. And just look at the line-up - Kurtis Blow, Abdominal, Mica Paris, Tenor Fly, Omar, KT Tunstall are all collaborating across this 15 track funk explosion. With licks from James Brown endorsed CBs band and the perfect balance of tight riddims and humour, "Yo Bonita" rocks in every sense. Essential.

Review:
If your record bag/CD wallet/hard drive (delete as appropriate) is flagging under the weight of soul-sapping breakbeat bootlegs and ill-advised ghetto funk remixes, help is at hand. This compilation from Actual Sounds does contain plenty of sneaky bootlegs and ghetto funk style reworks (including one that bites "Sweet Home Alabama"), but they're all of a much higher quality than we've come to expect of late. There are snappy trips into boogie breaks territory (Big Bang Breaks' "French Funk"), wobble-funk (a thunderous version of the Jacksons' "Rockin' Robin") and Madchester revivalism ("Free Soup"), not to mention a string of booty-licious ghetto funk stompers. If this doesn't wake you up, nothing will.

Review:
Nu-funk's most intrepid astronaut Stex hits the seventh planet from the sun, and he does so with a keen sense of urgent trance. Rushy, clipped arpeggios control the funk shuttle's coordinates while a snappy, driving break powers the journey. As we eke closer to the 27 mooned planet Stex initiates the Deep Dub drive. With subs so smouldering they'd make your mum blush, it's as unforgiving as the icy, planet itself.

Review:
Bucharest's Gemini Bros are all about classic funk sounds, and here they've enlisted a host of pals to help inject plenty of it into their own tune. "Twin Flavour" is a up-tempo belter, with an incessant rubber bassline and piano/organ riffs. The normally electro-heavy Ursula 1000 delivers an ace, but surprisingly discofied version, Stereo 77 go for trippy bongo acid and finally Pips & Midi Kobain beef up the original, adding plenty of brass and wah-wah guitar in the process.
