Review:
Taking the iconic string hook from Coolio's "Gangster's Paradise" and adding MC Lyte's man-hungry spitfire lyrics, Hungarian party monster Zenit Incompatible is making some bold, creative moves on his latest release. And it pays off. Elsewhere we find Eminem undergoing two different bass treatments on "Till The Roof Come Off", while "Keep My Light" ends us on a much brighter note with a riveting rub of Diana Ross. Eclectic and expertly executed.

Conjuring the heady rave vibes of breakbeat's golden tear-out days, "Mind Control" is a Botchit-level ripsnorter of a track with layers of bowel-tugging saw tooth basses and party-hyping vocals from two of the biggest toasters in the game. "Phenomenon One" is more contemporary with rhythm switches, shocking bass glitches and pummelling drumsteppy kicks. Laced with yet more premier vocals, watch out for the mad switch up after the build. Remix-wise Benny Page shows his more savage side with a firing roller that comes coated in a fine selection of old skooly motifs.

Review:
Funkosol get down to some serious Booty business as their crew look way back to the 50s and take us back to the future by way of big bolshy breakbeats and classic hip-hop vocals. It's a subversive brew with some interesting surprises such as SonicFUNK's use of Booker T & The MGs on "That's Hip Hop" and Jay-Z's appearances on The Man From DelMonty's "King Of Californ-I-A". Our advice? Bore into "Boar Stuff" - you certainly won't get bored.

Review:
One of the many highlights from Krafty's album Let's Ride, "Children Of The Night" is a riffy electro breakbeat workout that glitters with Stellar MC's liquid flow party raps. Meanwhile in remix-land Hashtag get gritty with a steppy, stompy dubstep hybrid that shows their drum & bass roots with unashamed abandon and drops into a very seductive, rushy synth breakdown. Also available in instrumental forms.

Review:
Deekline's Rat brand looks across the pond for some raw ghetto-minded booty breaks business. With Kidd Money making sure we understand exactly how he'd like his female dog to perform her chores, it's down to Keith and Fixx - both strong fixtures on the US breaks scene - to lay down the crisp, euphoric hooks. It's a heady brew and guess what? It wurks.

Review:
Junkfood head honcho K Lab frees up some time on the release schedule for his own debut album, and not a moment too soon. Wallowing with mischief in the fields of glitch and nu-funk, there's a subversive, off-beat trippy feeling to his work that a lot of current nu-funk is missing. Take "Tricks", a real wonky roller, it's plastered in Kraftwerkian electro angularity. Take the heaving, icy slammer "The Funk Hammer", written with D&B artist Dose it's a thundering bass composition that owes just as much to Paul Hardcastle and Harold Faltermeyer as it does Freq Nasty or Bassnectar. Take "Bangvaders", a wobbling tower of sci-fi and old school references, it's reminiscent of Unique 3 and early TCR releases. Take the whole lot; it's a very accomplished album.

Review:
Some 'best-of' collections seem to arrive way too early. Arrogantly so with some artists. But when you've released 23 EPs and five albums since 2005, it's definitely justified. Especially when you've got a back cat as impressive as Mr Pluse's. Ranging from the Hammond-smashing swinger "Pleasuretown" to the skank-bounce stepper "The Market St Hustle" via the early Dub Pistols-flavoured "Never Get Old", Pluse's accomplished ability to serve any party is more than established and celebrated here. A great way to get up to speed if you're not yet acquainted.

Review:
Serious party vibes abound as El Salvadorian Itchy Bastards add three new funk nuggets to their armoury. "Make Money" takes Busta to trumpet school, "Lemme Talk" looks to Clinton for some world dominance (George, not Bill) and "Roundacorna" is a deeper, jacking affair with a lolloping slap-bass riff and some lovely organ and wukka-wukka guitar twangs on the main hook.

Ever ones to keep us on our toes, First Word's releases are joyously unpredictable and always worth checking out regardless of flavour. Here they flip from the most experimental leftfield folk soul Framework to stirring icy rave courtesy of Yorkshire new junglist Future Wildstyle. "Vanish" is an emotional, vocal-heavy workout driven by classic hot-stepper breakbeats while "Take It Personal" turns to the sampler's fave toaster Cutty Ranks for inspiration.

The new bad boys of swing, Dutty Moonshine return to Rocstar with a slamming slice of retro-future fusion. Swaggering with a heavy rag-time hook and some of the funkiest basslines you'll hear this side of the asylum, it switches from a sludgy glitch to a firing triplet-based D&B shock-out with chaotic results. Beat 3 trips things out heady bass warps and slow, stumbling beats while William Breakspear takes the title literally with a fluid, wet electro body popping workout. Instant festival vibes.
