Review:
Originally, the tracks on this expansive full-length by Dutch turntablist-turned-producer DJ Mace were all released as separate EPs under the Fremdkunst pseudonym. It's perhaps surprising, then, that they sit together so well as an album. With a multitude of guests and collaborators in tow, Mace lays down tracks that meld jazz, hip-hop and soul with blunted beats, smoky chords and atmospheric melodies. In the old days, it would have been called trip-hop, but that's perhaps a dirty word nowadays. Either way, if you like your beats crackly, slow, atmospheric and peppered with jazz horns, it's well worth a listen.

Review:
Back after a long absence, funk outfit Timewarp Inc return with the slinky, sassy soul of "Yuil Disco Breaks". With a live version, recorded by the band as the Djtzinas & The Redgreen Wood Soundsystem, going up against more studio-bolstered, breaks-heavy mixes, as well as a cosmic rerub by Zamali, the funk shines through on each version on this tight single from Timewarp.

Review:
Although sounding like they come from another time and place, the core of Weekend Sun are actually two funk enthusiasts from the North-East of England. Their blend of exotic-tinged funk and soul has already been championed by the likes of Craig Charles and Pete Isaac. This EP of live and authentic retro funk will undoubtedly win even more followers with it's almost Acid Jazz-esque workouts. Highlights include the female-led title track and it's New Voyager-style remix by Hero 7 (Distant Hero mix).
