Review:
Smokey Bandits are a side project of producers George Fotiadis & Dimitris Nassios (of Basement Freaks/Quasamodo fame). Unsurprisingly their favourite movie is Smokey & The Bandit and this mutual love has resulted in this cowboy themed long player. "Revolucion Valienete" kicks off with a down Mexico way trumpet vibe, "Cattledrive" is a jazzy shuffle number, "The Rooster" touches of Latino trip-hop and "A Son's Lament" end proceedings with some widescreen orchestrated beats.

Now this is an interesting collaboration: Berliner hip-hop dude Suff Daddy moved to Australia and hooked up with Perth rapper Ka-Tu. The result is this joint release courtesy of Suff's permanent home, Melting Pot. It's an impressive listen, with the first 'side' showcasing Suff's trademark skewed, nu-jazzy hip-hop and the second unveiling Ka-Tu's broad sound (which incorporates everything from messed-up, hip electro to retro, orchestra-heavy hop).

We've been waiting a LONG time for this one! Miguel Mantovani, Archerio Mantovani and Kengo San have been teasing and pleasing with their tongue-in-cheek funk on wax and on stage for years... We always knew when an album drops it would be big. And just look at the line-up - Kurtis Blow, Abdominal, Mica Paris, Tenor Fly, Omar, KT Tunstall are all collaborating across this 15 track funk explosion. With licks from James Brown endorsed CBs band and the perfect balance of tight riddims and humour, "Yo Bonita" rocks in every sense. Essential.

Barely Breaking Even Records have scored themselves a major coup here, with instrumental album from popular UK hip-hop DJ The Last Skeptik. Although immediately following a recent rap album with Rewd Adams, this long player is a different kettle of fish - featuring 15 prime cuts of jazzy, trip-hoppy workouts. Highlights include the g-funk of "Wig", the insanely catchy "Be There" and the surprisingly upbeat "Pick Your Battles".

The Sign Of Four was a famous Sherlock Holmes mystery, and although we don't know if this shady act was referencing it, it would take some Sherlock-style supersleuthing to find out more. That's because when sourcing new vintage releases, in the words of DJ Fryer, at Jazzman they always dig deeper! "Jumping Beans" is a bonkers distress signal from from outer space, beamed straight into a 1960s recording studio helmed by Miles Newbold. Meanwhile "Samba Electronico" is a more down to earth - but still frenzied - retro Latin jazz workout!

Review:
This joyous bundle of psychedelic jazz-funk weirdness comes from the warped mind of the Natural Yoghurt Band's Miles Newbold. It's described in Jazzman's sales notes as "the spaced out vibes of an unsound mind". That description barely does it justice. While accurate, there's far more going on that that. Cacophonous, freestyle rhythms are overlaid with freaky organ solos, haunting flutes, twisted electronic noises, vintage synth stabs and all manner of weird and wonderful instruments. It could have been a mess, but it's actually really good. Further more, it sounds like a bunch of people, out of their heads, having huge amounts of fun. Whatever they're taking, we'll definitely have some.

A truly international love-in here with idealistic San Francisco collective, The Warheads, teaming up with Muscovite electronica label Ethereal Sounds for this three track EP which is being re-issued...for free! The title track previously appeared on album Requiem, and is a floaty slice of downbeat bliss complete with rolling snares and echoey guitar. Elsewhere "In The Brightest Africa" is evocative of a nighttime river ride through the depths of the jungle and "Journey" is all about the late night sax and fretless bass.

Review:
Sliding back into the fray with Ninja Tune for more of his crossover bass swells, Tom Bell is in a decidedly soulful mood as he works with Shola Ama and other cohorts for the emergence of the Toddla T Sound project. It's a smooth, purposefully stripped down slow jam that bobs on luxuriant pads running through gossamer filters as a perfect cushion for Ama's breathless vocals and pitched-down chorus spits from one of the MC contributors. Bringing an old-skool rave vibe to his remix, Numbers producer Deadboy throws in some naughty breaks and bad ass bassline business and offer the mix up in vocal and dub forms for all possible eventualities (within the realms of peak time party music of course).

Review:
Sheffield's premier rude boy Toddla T unveils his new 'supergroup' with this one-off bomb. The Toddla T Sound evolved from the amount of hours Toddla spent on the road with fellow musicians, Serocee, DRS and believe it or not, Shola Ama! The first results of this collaboration is "Worst Enemy", which is a classy slow jam featuring Ama's sultry tones - a far cry from her early days. More please!
