Review: Session Victim's 2012 debut full-length The Haunted House of House was arguably one of the best deep house albums of the year. Here, they return with their first new material since. Opener "Yes I Know" features their trademark loose, swinging drums, warm chords and classic deep house sheen, alongside a healthy amount of what sounds like organic instrumentation. With the addition of a delicious disco vocal sample, it makes for wonderful listening. Max Graef remixes, turning in a version that sounds like a deeper take on 6th Borough Project. "Glow In The Dark", meanwhile, is wholeheartedly Balearic - a blindingly sunny slice of semi-live disco-house bagginess that should get maximum rotations in warmer climes this summer.

Review: If it ain't broke don't fix it as they say, and this Euro party edits producer is certainly living by this maxim. Here we find the talented producer providing Greek label Timewarp with a selection of his reworks of disco obscurities. As usual it's hard to not want to get up dance to his infectious remixes including the pulsating, arpeggiated 80s night drive of "Yull Disco Breaks (instrumental)", the wah-wah heavy hip-house of "Blast" and the chaotic acid funk of "Nose Dive".

Review: After successfully remixing some very popular dance tunes to widespread approving nods from the likes of Loadstar, Clean Bandit and Naughty Boy, the Bristol duo have returned to the studio to furnish the bass music community with a second EP released on cutting edge label Black Butter. Bringing together house, garage and bassline for that oh-so-now deep house feel with a characteristically twisted outlook, each track is a swarming mass of influences and irresistible experimentation. "Scatter" in particular has that perfect MNL combo of hip-swinging dancefloor compatibility and relentless hard-hitting beats and you've almost definitely already heard the badness of "Levels" on your travels. A definite buy on sight.

Review: In the last 18 months, Dutch duo Detroit Swindle has come from nowhere to become one of deep house's go-to names. This three-tracker for Tsuba - their first for Kevin Griffiths' label - is another 'must-check' release. Lead cut "Sometimes" is typical of their output to date; deep, stylish, quietly soulful and blessed with relentless riffs that propel the track forwards at a rate of knots. Arguably better is "That Freak Stuff", a slick chunk of deepness blessed with some rougher drums, an addictive bassline and some atmospheric, whispered vocal samples. Soulphiction remixes, turning the track on its head thanks to shuffling analogue drums, a fuzzy bassline and some glistening pianos.

Review: It's not all that long since Local Talk's first Talking House compilation dropped. Given the sheer volume of 12" singles from the label - there seems to be one every week these days - it's little surprise to see this follow-up dropping in double-quick time. The label's best material has always been superb, and there are some real gems here. Check, for example, Dirtytwo's clever (and exceptionally well executed) fusion of HNNY's "For The Very First Time" and Midnight Star's "Midas Touch", John Mood's "Basement Romance" (clearly inspired by classic Mood II Swing), and Cle's colossal piano house bomb "The Jam". Oh, and the thrill-packed blast of Balearic magic that is Fred Everything's "Brothers & Sisters (AM Pacific)".

Review: Edinburgh producer Hostage has no intention of losing the heat garnered from a host of important releases on labels like Herve's Deep Thrills and Black Butter. The newfound interest in the deeper side of things is kept up on "How We Go Down" which features buzzing low bass and tough house beats. "Keep Dark" is sultry speed garage, the sparse "Conscious" veers into 4 x 4 territory and ""Show Ya" wraps things up with a warped rave organ riff and some very late night UKF grooves.

Review: The Legendary Sound Orchestra continues his attempt to provide disco edit lovers with something extraordinary, with a third collection of hand picked reworks. Predictably, there's plenty to enjoy, from his own sparse, piano-heavy version of Silvetti's Salsoul classic "Spring Rain", to the rolling, bongo-laden goodness of 78 Edits' sprightly but loopy "Don't You Know". Highlights-wise, it's a toss-up between Alkalino's baggy disco-soul shuffler, "Have A Ball", and Jimmy The Twin's superb, TR-707-enhanced "Party Down". The latter, a horn-heavy chunk of upbeat disco-funk, is arguably the Bristol-based scalpel fiend's best work to date.

Review: Upon first listen to "Serious Clowns", you could be forgiven for exclaiming "oh no! not another re-edit!" Thankfully though this Canadian coast and the countryside collaboration between Neighbour (Vancouver) and DJ Spiltmilk (Calgary) is an original composition that combines sultry arpeggiated Italo disco with an 80s soul mood (a la Imagination or Dennis Edwards). The rest of the EP is pretty funky too: "Look At Each Other..." managing to channel both Plastic Dreams and the Minneapolis sound, "No You Bite It" touches on deep house and best of all is the almost Viewlexx inspired "Red Or Black".

Review: Dusky have come far in quite a short space with their modern house music interpretations and make quite a decisive move with a high profile transfer from Simple Records to Aus Music. This is still prime, slickly executed house music but with a healthy amount of bass woven into the mix, not least on the fearsome "Alone". A meaty sub line pulses out under the crisp 4/4 while interludes of found-sound percussion come darting in amongst snippets of vocal for a surefire banger. "Dummy" likewise flexes its brawn with pride, from the snappy beat to the punchy bassline, even as the synth elements are intent on sending the track into more spaced-out places.

Review: In truth, very little is known about Ten Walls, Dixon and Ame's latest signing to their recently quiet Innervisions stable. What we do know, though, is that he makes some tasty music. Opener "Gotham" is particularly good, slowly building into the sort of deep, sinewy, confidently melodic chugger that Ame and Henrik Schwartz used to do so well. "Epos" is, if anything, even deeper, with intense warmth, and an almost Arabic feel to the intoxicating synthezier melodies. "Moag", on the other hand, is so drowsy it's almost asleep - all atmospheric chords, bubbling electronics and cavern-deep grooves. Whoever Ten Walls is, he's very good.

Review: The fantastically named A/Jus/Ted - veteran producers Justin Strauss and Eddie Mars on a collaborative tip - make their debut on Under The Shade. "A Brighter Light", featuring the treacle-thick soul vocals of Jeremy Glenn, sits somewhere between electro-soul, early Chicago house and Balearic nu-disco. As you'd probably expect from the soul-minded Strauss, the resultant track is effortlessly soulful, quietly uplifting and brilliantly produced. The same could be said of the more instrumental Re A/Jus/Ted remix, which blends skittering proto-house rhythms and electrofunk dub elements with woozy modern deep house. Like the original, it's excellent.

Review: It's been some two years since Shackled, George Fitzgerald's last outing on Hotflush and it's fair to say the landscape both occupy has shifted some in that period. Both artist and label are fully entrenched in the current UK house explosion and Fitzgerald's return to Paul Rose's label with Thinking Of You seems primed to reverberate across festivals, Croatian beaches and warehouse spaces as the summer months roll on. A prominent track in Fitzgerald's recent Essential Mix, "Thinking Of You" sees the producer continue to refine an approach to forthright house music shown on recent dalliances with Aus Music and Hypercolour and feels almost proto fidget in execution. The techier accompaniment "Nighttide Lover" is drawn from a similar fist pumping palette and features rolling vocal manipulation reminiscent of Switch in his heyday.

Review: Dani Plessow dons the Motor City Drum Ensemble name with Say A Prayer signaling a return to the production game following his much publicized creative burnout. It's clear that Plessow's period of convalescence has worked wonders, with the four tracks here every bit as deep and dusty as the much vaunted Raw Cuts series upon which the MCDE project was launched skywards. Proceedings open with the two part suite of the title track, laying down fuzzy chords and intermittent vocal swoons over a gritty 909 backbone on the opening track; part 2 meanwhile will have you digging out those Raw Cuts 12"s in order to do a MCDE master mix, such is its immediate warmth and neck snapping drums. Meanwhile, Plessow uses "The Stranger" as a chance to traverse bleepier, rattling techno terrain with superb results, whilst "SP11" is rasping high octane house at its finest.

Review: There's something deliciously infectious about "Who's The Douche", the lead cut from Darius Syrossian and Hector Couto's debut EP for Hot Creations. Rolling along on a booming, MK-ish groove, but boosted by cut-up vocals, it's like a 21st century take on hip-house that's near impossible to dislike. The prominent "funky bass" vocal sample gets recycled on the sub-bass propelled basement burner "We Both Loco". "Can You Feel It" is a more subdued affair, with more prominence given to deep, late night synths and wide-eyed builds. Closer "House is House" sits somewhere between all three tracks, delivering a mix of low-end wobble, shuffling grooves and wisely chosen vocal samples

Review: The speed at which Bicep have risen through the ranks is staggering. This time two years ago they were bedroom bloggers; now, they're among the most hyped producers around. Here, they pop up on Kevin Saunderson's KMS label with "Vision of Love", th typically tough and wide-eyed chunk of US house revivalism that originally surfaced on their eponymous label last year. It's devilishly simple, with a few key ingredients - big piano riffage, subtle strongs and booming beats - being whisked together to produce a peaktime delight whilst the cheeky usage Inner City vocal samples is what has lead to it being reissued through KMS. Carl Craig edits, delivering a version that expertly teases out the piano and vocal, via a few well-placed drops and effects. It's this version that hits home hardest, but we wouldn't expect anything less.

Review: The ever-correct Prime Numbers series is still going strong, this time bringing together a thoroughly eclectic range of producers to lay down some solid club fodder. Adesse adopts the tenderest approach, bringing a soft African lilt to a subtle arrangement of light drums and poignant chords. Truss is certainly in no mood to chill on "Redbrook", going for a big room techno flavour that favours rigid beats, acid parps and epic swathes of organ. Massimo Di Lena is on a far more twitchy tip, with a snagging assortment of percussion and some woozy synths that leave one feeling wonderfully dizzy.

Review: Roberto Rodriguez's "Lies", previously released with tweaks from Attu, gets a second airing. The sinewy original - a kind of dubwise deep disco-house concoction - is remixed by Satin Jackets and Kyodai. The latter reaches for the heavy Rhodes chords and skippy US garage-influenced drums on his sunset-themed remake, apparently aiming to soundtrack happy evenings dancing on Mediterranean terraces. Nu-disco don Satin Jackets unsurprisingly emphasizes the original's more disco elements on his warm, baggy remake. It's a typically enjoyable and breezy chunk of deep house/nu-disco fusion.

Review: Electro-deviant Jimmy Edgar has linked up once again with his JETS partner Machinedrum to launch the Ultramajic imprint, and he gets first stab at a release with this taut three tracker. "Hot Inside" is as unashamed a peak-time heater as Edgar has ever turned his hand to, sporting a riotous diva vocal hook and crisp house drums, but there's still a strong techno injection in the synth work and shifting phases of the track. "Strike" is a more abrasive affair with its metallic delay vibrations and relentlessly nagging jack, while "Shout" comes on all electro house in its fulsome bassline and shouty vocal snippets.

Review: Despite getting everyone all hot and bothered with the promise of their collaboration, Gorgon City - aka Foamo and Rack N Ruin - have been sparing with releases to say the least. Still, it's all about quality not quantity, eh? Both tracks on this EP scream class and are immaculately produced: "Intentions" is a slick deep roller, complete with bouncy bass, shuffly garage beats and a soulful 90s-style urban vocal. The percussion is pushed to the fore on the corresponding club mix, but it's the dark and positively subterranean bass vibes of the moody "Cycles" that really does it for us!

Review: Rising Swedish house producer HNNY scored one of last year's most ubiquitous cuts in the shape of "For The Very First Time" which appeared on his debut EP of the same name for Mad Mats' unstoppable Local Talk label. Yearning marks HNNY's long overdue Local Talk return and features yet another immediately infectious production from the Stockholm based producer's armoury along with a superlative remix of his aforementioned hit. As soon as those warm keys wrap around the loose rhythms of "Yearning" you get an sense that HNNY knows how to craft a house production and the subtle vocal hook that comes swooping in will undoubtedly cause requisite chaos. On the remix tip, Local Talk's secret weapon Dirtytwo gets his 80s electro funk on for a blinding rendition of "For The Very First Time". Tiger & Woods would be proud of this one.

Review: If you're going to get remixes done, it's always wise to call up people who will actually give your tracks a proper makeover. That's exactly what Jay Shepheard's done on this excellent two-track remix single. German duo Session Victim kick things off, turning Shepheard and Matthew Burton's sparse 2011 cut "Liberal Zee" into a building chunk of Balearic house - all loose drums, rubbery electric bass (lifted from the superb original), sparkling disco guitars and touchy-feely chords. As remixes go, it's pretty darn good. Hyped deep housers Casino Times give Shepheard and Martin Dawson's "Cut A Hole" a good seeing-to on the (virtual) flip, turning it into a sunset-inspired chunk of wide-eyed haziness. To quote Norfolk's greatest fictional sportscaster, it's "lovely stuff".

Review: Last seen on Ostgut Ton back in 2011, the wonderfully monikered Dinky resurfaces on Visionquest with the Fallen Angel EP which precedes the release of Dimension D, her fifth studio album which has been mixed and co-produced by Matthew Styles. Visionquest press notes claim the forthcoming long player sees the Chilean DJ, producer and vocalist evolve into a fully fledged singer-songwriter and performer, which makes Dimension D a perfect fit for the label. As a taste of what's to come, "Fallen Angel" excels, with Iglesias's ethereal vocal the perfect foil for the dark, rippling techy groove. Kudos to Visionquest for the remixes too, with the aforementioned Styles further finessing the original's darker intricacies whilst Pepe Bradock completely rewires proceedings in his own inimitable style.

Review: Further proof of the blurred boundaries between nu-disco, deep house and '90s house revivalism is provided by this jaunty four-tracker from Auckland-based studio buff Shallow Taxi Club. There's much to admire about the crisp, vintage house pianos, twittering melodies and bumpin' beats of opener "Flashback", but it's the deep, Crazy P-ish nu-disco groovery of "Mark My Words" that most impresses. Choose between the baggy 'Disco Edit' and a delightfully touchy-feely rework from Greg Wilson faves Monkey Boots. Review: Local Talk offshoot OneOffs returns for a second saunter through triple-exclusive territory. The always-impressive Crackazat opens proceedings with the jazzy "Size Up", a rolling stomper that fixes gorgeous melodies (think wide-eyed synths and chiming vibraphones) to a driving low-end groove. There's a lot going on, but Crackazat navigates through the summery madness impressively. Will Berridge ups the ante with the woozy, energy-packed "I'm The Jack", while JMX's "That's The Way" sounds like UK garage given the Chicago house makeover. Last, but by no means least, Kemuel goes all summery and soulful on the classic US house shuffler "California My Way", which samples up a fantastic old soul jam.

Review: One of Dirtybird's freshest signees, Justin's low-swung bass mischief fits the label with glove-like glee. Both teetering around the sexy, slurring 120 mark, "Static" is a droning bass massage with cheeky wisps of breakbeat in the background. Warning: it will leave you covered in a fine disco sleaze you won't ever want to wash off. "Waves" plays the fitting foil; deep, soulful and star-gazing, it's very similar to Justin Martin's softer work. A very, very strong release from Dirtybird here.

Review: Since launching early last year, Jaymo and Andy George's Moda Black imprint has forged a reputation for delivering the sort of fluid, action-packed deep house that takes as much influence from synth-laden nu-disco as tech house, '90s garage and Visionquest-ish slickness. Here, the two bossmen curate a second label compilation featuring a mix of unreleased gems and recent hits. Review: Pedestrian's work is sporadic and unpredictable to say the least and with only two releases having come out in the last two years, we really never know what to expect from this mysterious producer. He is, however, back on James Zabiela's Born Electric label and joined majestically by a healthy team of remixers who take care of his "Hoyle Road" track! We get the original, of course, a sweet and sultry deep house groover but Benjamin Damage and Doc Daneeka rapidly transform it into a hefty techno workout reminiscent of the Ostgut Ton sound. FaltyDL dusts the bass off and produces a heavier, dubbier house cut of the original, backed by some rather splendid synth work, whilst SpectraSoul take care of the d&b sway, giving us the track's vocals over some hyper-speed breakbeats and hard-hitting low-ends. Nice lil' package!

Review: Rather than plunder the early 80s electro end of synth pop, Wichniowski seem to be more influenced by the glossy productions of the end of that decade. Specifically on "Every Second" by um, Johnny Hates Jazz. Wait! Don't leave! Give it a chance and you'll find yourself seduced by the shimmering synth work and impossibly catchy effete vocal melody. Or maybe the surprisingly authentic sounding Balearica of "Ain't You" will grab you. If you're really looking for club action though, we guarantee that if Bronx's euphonic piano house mix doesn't do it for you, DPN's filthy house growler totally will.

Review: The sheer volume of Local Talk releases is dizzying. It can make keeping track of their output difficult, which is mildly irritating given the high quality threshold. This latest EP - their first from Orazio Fantini - is another belter. While rooted in classic US house and deep garage, there's a summery breeziness not often found on Local Talk EPs. The three tracks are fairly similar, with clever use of sampling, bouncing melodies and just the right amount of retro chic. "Feel It", with its surprise jazz-funk breakdown halfway through, is probably our pick, though the more upbeat, groove-driven "On Hold" (which seemingly features an M People vocal sample) is pretty tasty.

Review: This powerhouse duo - a collaboration between none other than Foamo and Rack N Ruin - dropped their killer debut EP last year and since then things have been ominously quiet. Well, now they're back with a stonking great new release that fully explores the pair's interest in all things deep and groovy. "Real" features the vocal talents of rising star Yasmin and manages to be both an exotic pop anthem and a sparse, 4/4 bass head-nodder. "Thor" is nasty dark basement fodder, "Athena" is a lithe, tropical acrobat of a tune and "10 Below" is a sinister house-meets-garage monster.

Review: Volume Six of the esteemed Sccucci Manucci operation sees the Tom Selleck of disco flecked house rack up the air miles with an international cast of talent contributing. Contemporary disco connoisseurs should be fully aware of Gredits, the Swedish producer with previous on the Basic Fingers label; "Doing It Deep" does it right, seductively teasing out a killer looped up disco groove that gets more flirtatious with every listen. German dwelling Greek producer Elef takes us into classicist house terrain with the infectious bump and shuffle of "Lazy Liz", whilst a long promised Sccucci weapon from The Candy Dealers (aka Christian Malloni & Jay West also sees release. Glaswegian Illyus rounds out the EP, as he returns for a second bite of the Manucci cherry with the late night dubby house goodness of "Movin House".
