Review: Portuguese producer Alkalino continues to move further towards deep house territory following early excursions into disco and piano-laden Balearic house. This EP for regular home Audaz is arguably one of his strongest releases to date and features three deep, chunky and decidedly groovy cuts built around spoken word vocals and shuffling percussion. Choose between the bubbling chords and dense disco percussion of "Heavy As Stone", the retro-futurist riffage and goodtime vibes of "Distant Future", and the Italian deep house-aping "Pedal Polarity 3000". The EP also includes a fantastically jaunty boompty/swing/hip-house fusion from Mem that sounds like it's primed for peaktime plays.

Review: Amplified Orchestra's loose and percussive, jazz-flecked deep house jam "Chilli Sin Carne" first saw the light of day on Gerd's 4Lux imprint way back in 2005. Here it gets a deserved re-release, alongside two other sturdy cuts from Mateo & Matos and Marius. In truth, the Amplified Orchestra jam still stands out, if only for its lucid blend of fluid drums, bass wobbles and cascading chords. That said, Mateo & Matos' "Want U Tonight" - here in delightfully smoky DJ Mishakov dub remix form - is pretty tasty, too. Marius' curiously analogue jam "Superiori", a blend of dubby deep house, nu-disco chords and bouncy pianos - completes an enjoyable package.
