Review: Munich label Permanent Vacation continue their fine run of form, pairing a label stalwart with a relative newcomer with excellent results. Bostro Pesopeo has featured on many a Permanent Vacation release since his debut back in 2008, whilst Pional may have only recently joined the PV canon, though his work presents a further strengthening in the bond between the label and Hivern Discs. Yes is notable for two things; the multi-faceted approach to the music and Pional's hitherto unrecorded singing voice (soon to be heard on John Talabot's album for Permanent Vacation). Along with the swinging, twilight 2-step future boogie of the title track, the duo veer through 80s tinged new wave and more familiar kraut indebted house music (the excellent "Baby Blue"), and what really impresses is the attention to detail and organic feel across each track.

Review: Italian producer Enzo Ponzio has been shuffling around the fringes of the European nu-disco scene for some time, showcasing his own twenty-first century take on the classic Italo and cosmic disco sound. Here, two of his earlier works get re-booted by fellow Italians Discodromo and London's Kid Who. The latter re-casts 2007's "My 80's Funk" as a chunky Balearic groover, building a satisfyingly dubby groove around twittering synths, reverb-laden guitars and some exquisite piano flourishes. Discodromo, on the other hand, opt for a more obviously electronic sound, placing sci-fi bleeps and subtle string stabs at the heard of a classy nu-disco rework.

Review: 16 years after making his debut, German deep house veteran Ian Pooley continues to churn out the hits. Here he adds another label to his sprawling discography, with a debut for Om offshoot Smoke N Mirrors. "So Good" is in many ways typical Pooley; a sprightly fusion of dependable deep house rhythms and darting nu-disco synth frippery. As is often the case with Pooley's best work, there are plenty of strangely addictive, cut-up vocal samples to hurry the track along. Remix-wise, there are rubs from Hanssen and Da Funk, with the former's bubbling re-jig just edging out the latter's swirling re-make.

Review: It's been three years since Kelley Polar unleashed his second album, the superb space-pop opus I Need You To Hold On While The Sky Is Falling. Here Environ's eccentric viola master turned galactic pop maestro joins forces with two other vocalists for more bubbling analogue-and-strings fun. "I'm Not What You Want" is typical Polar, with the stylish vocals of Junior Boys front man Jeremy Greenspan lighting up a pleasing fusion of darting analogue synths and razor-sharp viola motifs. Emilia Logik joins in the action on "Nocturne", a joyously stripped-back duet that recalls previous Polar classic "Entropy Reigns". As accomplished and far-sighted as usual.

Review: Live at Bobby J's serve up this remix shaped addendum to Mr Pagliara's excellent thick set long player Focus for Infinity, with mainstays Tuff City Kids and B.H.F.V. at the controls. Anyone who's checked a Tuff City Kid production in recent times will be getting a bit excited at the prospect of a remix proper as well as some bonus acid endeavours from Lauer and Janson. Rightly so too - in their hands "A Wrong Chance" gets moulded into a heaving mass of cavernous thumping house brilliance that constantly switches between moods. Just wait for the truly haunting treatment of crystalline chords to arrive! The Acid Bonus Riddim version is the more basic variant, stripping it down to let the bass do the talking before the acid takes effect. The presence of B.H.F.V. is a welcome return for the duo who slipped out the excellent throwback electro jams on ET 01-06 earlier in the year, and their take nine minute on "In Order Of More Depth" applies a similarly bleep heavy approach amidst expansive surges of Technicolor light. Big tip for the heads!
