Review: Prins Thomas' Full Pupp label seems to excel at finding hitherto unknown Norwegian disco talent. Here, it offers up the debut full-length from Oslo native Andre Bratten, who apparently shares studio space with Lindstrom and Todd Terje. Comparisons with both producers are understandable; Be A Man You Ant's shimmering vintage synths, stargazing melodies and chugging space disco grooves (particularly those on the intoxicating "Aegis") are reminiscent of both producers' early work. It's already been pointed out that "Libra" shares an aesthetic with Terje's "Inspector Norse", while the quirky "Still Sertie" and mutant funk oddity "I Am Square" bear all the hallmarks of a Six Cups of Rebel B-side. Clearly, Bratten is a talent to watch.

Review: After a brief dalliance with 78 Edits, Edinburgh-based producer Barry "B-Jam" Fell pops up on Superbreak with a bulging sack full of dubby disco and electrofunk re-edits. Fell's greatest asset is his emphasis on groove (think rubbery basslines, swinging beats, subtle kicks etc), and all six cuts here offer the perfect balance between goodtime fun and fuss-free, floor-friendly jams. There are some moments that will be familiar to disco diggers (see the disco/jazz-funk tomfoolery of "No Fly Zone"), but for the most part he's re-cut unfamiliar jams. Of these, it's the boogie badness of "Set My Sights" and delightfully heady "Love It" that really stand out.

Review: The confusingly named B&B (it's a lone producer, not a combo) takes a break from making tasty house for Crosstown Rebels and Hot Creations to deliver some sneaky bootleg cuts. The loose theme is R&B and hip-hop, with rap samples making an appearance on each of the four cuts. The title track turns Donnie Hathaway's conscious soul classic "Little Ghetto Boy" into a slo-mo soul burner, while "Nuthin But A G-String" and "Rock Me Like It's Hot" impressively fusse bottom-end bounce, house and hip-hop. EP closer "It Was All A Dream" is decidedly deeper, but still rocks to low-slung basslines and cut-up rap hits. Odd but very, very good.
