Review: After starting his production career with a string of re-edits, Burnley native Andrew Clarke made his full debut last year with the solid Head High EP on Audio Parallax. Here he returns with arguably his strongest work to date. Lead cut "We Built This House" is particularly beguiling, mixing bubbly nu-disco bottom end and Balearic guitar flourishes with delightfully touchy-feely deep house pads and some exquisite drops. "I Wish I Was There" darts between the speakers on a wave of slo-mo Balearic disco goodness, while "Give It Up" sparkles with positive melodic intent. There are some decent remixes, too, with LeSale's wide-eyed bagginess just edging out KidWho's everything-but-the-kitchen-sink nu-disco rub.

Review: Re-edit heavy hitters Chopshop are back following their recent killer Greg Wilson/Groove Armada EP, and the big guns are out in force. Andrew Clarke is first up with "My Desire", an exotic funk bass and shimmering grand piano orgy. Then Yam Who? arrives at the party armed with "Quested": an immense synth-boogie looper that will slay you without even trying. Not to be outdone, DJ Butcher's "The Future Is Ours" risks weirding out the dancefloor with its twisted leftfield funk, and succeeds (possibly due to the dog barking bit). Lastly Appo ends with a classic: an arpeggiated disco cover of Chain Of Fools.

Review: Some classic Dissident (R.I.P) tackle available digitally for the first time. Clocking in at just over 11 minutes, it's fair to say that Drumstep is based on epic proportions. The track starts off in an unassuming manner, with hissing percussion lapping up against a gently wobbling bass. Snares flail and hats hiss as de Ritmos gradually adds more detail to the groove, but the killer element is the spaced out vocal sample that hangs over the bass and percussive parts. Like the twist at the end of a Coen brothers' movie, it lends Drumstep a strangely elusively feeling and calls to mind the early noughties minimal house experiments of Ricardo Villalobos and Farben. Long live Dissident!

Review: When Five Easy Pieces emerged as a label earlier this year with a debut release sporting the day glo boogie sounds of London duo Royalty, we were confronted with an unknown quantity that surprised and delighted on all levels. Fast forward several months and the second release on the fledgling imprint might be dipped in a keener sense of familiarity given the names involved, but it proves to be no less impressive. Formed of Matt Waites (who some may recall operating under the Nightmoves and Moscow monikers) and Nocturnes boss JR Seaton, Call Super brings together two producers with a true love of vintage analogue sounds and a willingness to implement it via new formulas. Across the three original tracks here, Waites and Seaton seem to revel in the opportunity to indulge their charmingly oddball side - the opening track "And It Was" for example has hushed vocals and a squelching acid refrain at its core but the track jerks with rhythmic intrigue, never giving clues as to where it will lead you. Off the back of two superb EPs and all the critical praise that followed them, Objekt provides an intriguing proposition as choice of remix artist for "Timora". Largely straightening out the rhythmic kinks, the Berlin-based producer implements a strident electro feel, slowly adding layers of brutal industrial textures which combine with real potency.

Review: The latest release from the Claremont 56 stable is further proof that Mudd & Co seemingly reside in a place where the sun always shines. On this Leng twelve inch, Ray Mang and Lexx have been enlisted to add some aural Vitamin D to the DNA of two tracks from Cantoma’s album Out Of Town. Mang’s version of "Under The Stars" is a world away from his visceral pumping work on the recent Glimmers album, opting to retain the feel and pace of the source, imbuing the bass with several degrees of added warmth and adding an ethereal quality to the vocal harmonies that flourish in the depths of the mix. On the flip Bear Funk affiliate Lexx tackles "Gambarra", stripping back the cosmic oscillations of the original to focus on the harmonious partnership between Marcelo Andrade’s vocals and the lilting guitar melodies over a percussive groove which throbs but never dominates.
