Review:
Canada's Homebreakin' label, so often a home to P-funk and electro influenced party-starters, welcomes a new name to its roster, Laberge. "Falling Away" is a little different to their usual fare, with the title track delivering a deep, shimmering chunk of R&B-influenced nu-disco. Chris James' remix brings out the garage elements of the original (think pitched-up, messed around with vocals) and adds some shuffling beats, while Terrence Pearce's version is a wide-eyed chunk of UK garage nostalgia. As for the bonus tracks, "At Night" is a soaring slice of slo-mo electrofunk (think big synths and big vocals), while "Yesterday" is a near perfect example of how to execute slo-mo nu-disco.

Review:
Larse is a hard act to track down and although we don't know much about them, one thing we do know is that Larse is very good at getting backsides moving. This turbo-themed EP boasts 4 original deep body-disco cuts, the standouts being the sublime and totally glamorous "Hot" and the (possibly even better?) Adana Twins remix, which is indeed based around a twisting bassline. What's not to love?

Review:
It seems that no one is ever in a rush in Norway's nu-disco quarter. Four to five minute tracks are mere pop edits for the likes of Prins Thomas and Stevie Kotey's Full Pupp label. Here The Lionhart Brothers see their tune "The Drift" swamped by remixers like a helpless victim of hungry zombies in a George A Romero flick. Frisvold & Lindbaek deliver a creepy, pumping stomper, Morten Oby & Prins Thomas Edit go for a brooding, portentous disco-rock version and Thomas also returns for his own 'diskomiks' - a whopping 12 minutes of carefully suspended thrills.

Review:
Having found success blending chopped-up disco and soul cuts with head-nodding house rhythms, Luca Trevisi is in no rush the flip the script. Then again, why should he be? As this second collection of shuffling disco/soul/house blends proves, nobody else does head-nodding slo-mo and midtempo groovery quite as well. Ain't Nothing But A Groove offers few surprises, but a whole heap of excellent, floor-friendly productions (some, such as the brilliant "Get Down", which have previously been released as singles). While the balance between disco, funk, soul and house changes throughout - the jazzy "Vuonto Beat", for example, is almost a straight-up murky deep house cut - Trevisi's wonderful way with grooves constantly impresses.

Review:
It appears that Systematic label boss Marc Romboy and his Chicago veteran old pal Blake Baxter have got lost on a road trip. We can just see them now, in a Delorean and struggling with maps and compasses before exiting the vehicle to find themselves in Paris circa 1998. Yep "The Art Of Sound" sees the normally jack-obsessed producers explore the whole French touch sound, and it largely works - the main version being faster, vocal and less retro. Version 2 though is all about looping and filtering those disco samples to within an inch of their lives!
