Review:
Joey Negro's Z Records have a remarkable knack for knocking out vintage compilation after vintage compilation. Here though, they've really discovered a rare niche of unmined gold courtesy of Nuphonic's David Hill who acts as selector. As Hill explains "gospel music has often followed trends in secular music" and this album captures 24 attempts of gospel getting on the disco and boogie trains. Highlights include the hiNRG longing of "I Need You", the electro-soul of "Love Is The Message" and the piano & strings frenzy of "Awake O Zion".

With their new-ish label Young Adults, Leeor Brown and David Fisher's aim is to source the best underground house and nu-disco being made across the globe. This has led them to releasing a new mini mix, entitled House Slippers, and here are the eight tracks featured in the their full, unmixed glory. It's an impressive selection that covers such territory as the Michael McDonald fronting Junior Boys-isms of "Only This Moment", the cloud nine electro-house of "Maybe Snakes (Permanent Vacation remix)", the retro French Touch loops of "Fake Bitches" and the synth-laden proto-acid of "Just Wear It".

Review:
Whiskey Disco returns with a quartet of blisteringly good reworks from Dead Rose Music Company and Satin Jackets. Dead Rose Music Company open proceedings in style with "Nothin To Ya", a brilliantly low-slung, bass-heavy re-edit-turned-remix of the Jones Girls' "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else" that turns the delightful original into a dubbed-out chunk of dancefloor chugginess. The more upbeat "Too Late", based on a lesser-known favourite, is almost as good. Satin Jackets' "The Hustle" provides some looser - but still formidably heavy - dewy-eyed disco-soul thrills, while "I Can See The Light" is more Balearic than a wet, sloppy kiss from a grinning stranger.

Review:
Despite making a name for himself in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, Elliot Thomas has yet to make his mark in electronic music at large. Judging by this first solo single for Voyeurthythm, he could be a name to watch in coming years. Brimming with snappy analogue drums, vintage synths and tear-jerking melodies, "Sirius" is a delightful slab of stargazing deepness with some impressive influences (early Chicago deep house, the Burrell brothers, classic Detroit techno). It sounds like something that could have been made in '88 or '89, right down to the analogue warmth present throughout. "Desert Light" follows a similar template, delivering bubbling electronic arpeggios, yearning synth melodies and subdued analogue drums. Recommended.

Review:
Living in Siberia has never stopped Alexander Chebankov from donning the proverbial Hawaiian shirt and producing soundtracks for dreamier, sunnier climes. Here, as Sunner Soul, he deliver three slowed down wonders - "Love Will Find A Way" is a sumptuous production that teases out a velvety 80s soul sample of Lionel Richie at his most seductive. "So Much Time" is a cosmic jam that builds into a soul belter, and finally "Together Again" demonstrates how vintage funk when edited, looped and filtered kind of becomes vintage house.

Review:
Hot on the heels of last month's label sampler, Siberian disco fantasist Alexander Chebankov delivers a new selection of songs from his stable. Chebankov himself, under his Sunner Soul alias, is one of the two artists featured; delivering the tight filtered funk of "The Dream Bird", the laid back cosmic jam "Day After Day" and the sweaty cowbell workout that is "Anytime To Funk". The Sunlight Disco Band step up to handle the other three tunes here: the light and breezy, almost French touch-esque "Streetlight", the looped exoticism of "Renaissance Hotel" and the quirky 80s-style party romp "Morning Exercise".

Review:
Not to be confused with the Noughties electro-house pairing of Matt Schwartz & Jonathan Ulysses, this Nine Lives is aspiring DJ Nick Shaw, who has been slowly building a reputation for himself with his formula of accessible piano-driven house and melodic female pop vocals. Again, "Centro" is in keeping with this approach, but hey if it ain't broke...This time in addition to the above we get searing synth lines, punk-funk bass and some great disco lasers.

Review:
Nu-disco is in the blood of Serbian producer Milos Djordjevic aka Tonbe. But of late he's branched out, exploring the re-recording of soul classics and such. Here he sticks to his roots but applies them to a more contemporary electro house format. "You Got Me Down", featuring a female soul vocals, tough 4/4 drums and quirky keyboards, the result almost sounds like a hybrid of club music and 80s yuppie pop a la Swing Out Sister or Belouis Some. "Freaky Disco" applies the same format to an instrumental take on Rick James' "Superfreak".
