Review:
Trust us, in our experience when encountering someone who goes by a nickname like Fingerman, it's usually best not to enquire as to how they came to be christened so. Here though he seems intent for us to know his true story, and luckily for us he's explaining it through the language of music. "I Know Its Mine" is a snazzy, brassy anthemic jam, "Lenny's Disco" is super camp fun of the Carl Bean variety, "Outta Sight" is more low-slung stuff, and "Honky Honk", with its incredible sliding bassline, is the sound of a roof being raised!

Review:
In certain sections of society a 'beard' is a euphemism for someone who helps another to disguise their true identity. In the case of this EP, it appears that Groove Motion have renamed their source material to (musically) do just that: "Girl" is a competent electro-house re-run of Freeez's 1983 hit, I.O.U., the origins of hazy retro houser "Yats" are a little more shady (but it's sound evokes the period that gave us early Omar) and finally "Shame Its A" is a big hearty mash-up of Monie Love and what sounds like "He's The Greatest Dancer" by Chic.

Given how many re-edit releases he's had over the last few years, you have to wonder whether Rayko will soon run out of fresh scalpel material. Thankfully, he's not reached the 'barrel-scraping' stage, as this breezy two-tracker proves. "Enjoy Your Life" is the epitome of summery disco-soul, all shuffling beats, addictive vocals, darting strings and wiggly funk guitars; it's the sort of thing that should be booming out of a boat party soundsystem somewhere in the Adriatic. "Emotion", meanwhile, sees Rayki return to his love of electrofunk drums, turning a synth bass-laden disco jam into a touchy-feely instrumental delight.

Here Chopshop welcome Moplen to their clan with an introductory EP of re-jigs. It's an impressive start: "Ma Foom Bey" is brooding Afro house with a slightly Chi-town undercurrent, 80s disco staple "Ain't Nothin Goin On But The Rent" gets a respectful nip and tuck while "Cavern" ends things with a way-out and noodley adaptation of Liquid Liquid's "Cavern".

Review:
Nu disco re-edit label Editorial seem to be continuing on their recent deep slo-mo direction. Their fifth label comp/EP sees them in fine fettle, with Sellouts delivering the deep n loopy "Satisfy" (a deceptively powerful dancefloor builder), Deep&Disco's "Otis Held Tight" is a beautifully sparse yet soulful outing, Manuel Shagun's "So Good" provides an amazing glammy disco stomp, riddled with samples and all the better for it, while the party winds up with the cruising blue sky funk of The Noodleman's "3rd Time".

Review:
The fantastically named A/Jus/Ted - veteran producers Justin Strauss and Eddie Mars on a collaborative tip - make their debut on Under The Shade. "A Brighter Light", featuring the treacle-thick soul vocals of Jeremy Glenn, sits somewhere between electro-soul, early Chicago house and Balearic nu-disco. As you'd probably expect from the soul-minded Strauss, the resultant track is effortlessly soulful, quietly uplifting and brilliantly produced. The same could be said of the more instrumental Re A/Jus/Ted remix, which blends skittering proto-house rhythms and electrofunk dub elements with woozy modern deep house. Like the original, it's excellent.

Somnambulant sonic flavours abound as NY house duo make their debut on Southern Fried with "Stay Up Here". Swaying with delicate pianos yet pumping with a prominent acid hook and sparkling with Miss Bee's lush vocal, it's deep without any danger of limpness. Remix-wise both Bonar Bradberry and The Rhythm Odyssey deliver the goods. Bonar spaces things out a little and adds a trippier, more yearning edge to the groove while The Rhythm Odyssey (AKA Dean Meredith from Chicken Lips) dub-funks out the whole affair with a powerful synth bassline. Lovely.

The Italian nu-disco dons Ajello are back on home ground following their recent foray into African sounds on the Kalimba Tune EP. Released on their much loved Demo Disc label, these three new tracks see them doing what they do best: "Soomee" begins things on a slow, head-nodding, quirky funk tip, "Sport" is the kind of accelerated slice of amazing hiNRG electro-disco not heard since the days of the late great Patrick Cowley, and "Joker" is a cool excursion into leftfield electronic disco, full of eccentric twists and turns that lead to a bonkers Italo crescendo.

Lino 'Alkalino' Rodriguez is getting straight to the point with the title of the latest release on his own Audaz label. The music featured also has a similar no-nonsense attitude, being all attention grabbing party starters. "Love That Funk" is an excellent electro-disco-boogie banger with an underlying hi-NRG feel. Ronnie Law's classic, "Always There", is subtly retweaked in sensitive fashion and likewise for Mystic Merlin's storming "Just Can't Give You Up".

DJ Ionic's Finnish disco-boogie label Kojak Giant Sounds goes digital with this re-issue of a successful single from a few years back. "I'd Like To You" is some baddass electro-boogie with a heavy kick adding that extra thump needed. "Poyson" is a slow and tight Larry Levan-style funk jam, with extra-elastic bass and a tough talkin' diva to boot!

Review:
Prins Thomas' Full Pupp label seems to excel at finding hitherto unknown Norwegian disco talent. Here, it offers up the debut full-length from Oslo native Andre Bratten, who apparently shares studio space with Lindstrom and Todd Terje. Comparisons with both producers are understandable; Be A Man You Ant's shimmering vintage synths, stargazing melodies and chugging space disco grooves (particularly those on the intoxicating "Aegis") are reminiscent of both producers' early work. It's already been pointed out that "Libra" shares an aesthetic with Terje's "Inspector Norse", while the quirky "Still Sertie" and mutant funk oddity "I Am Square" bear all the hallmarks of a Six Cups of Rebel B-side. Clearly, Bratten is a talent to watch.
