Review:
2011 marks the 20th Anniversary of 1991: The Year That Punk Broke, a pivotal film centred around the lives and experiences of avant-garde music pioneers Sonic Youth during their 1991 European club and festival tour. Available for the first time on DVD the film also features Nirvana, The Ramones, Dinosaur Jr., Babes In Toyland and Gumball. Filmed just a month prior to the release of Nirvana’s Nevermind it includes the last footage of the band before their meteoric success and sees them performing anthems such as “Smells Like Teen Spirit“, “Polly” and “Negative Creep” and a very rare and unseen performance of “In Bloom”. DMC World DJ Championship 2011 feature DVD
Review:
There comes a time in every high caliber recording artist's career when they reach the landmark of their first DVD release. For the 8th biggest DJ in the world, that time is now. After a 2-year production process, the start of summer 2010 saw Markus Schulz drop the curtain on his third artist album Do You Dream? Equipped with 17 new productions, he took the critically acclaimed music on a world tour, personally introducing it to 100s of 1000s of clubbers around the globe. Through 18 countries, and over a 3-month period, a documentary team captured this journey. Their directive were simple: 'shoot everything, miss nothing'... and that's exactly what they did.
The outcome of that lens odyssey is Markus Schulz: Do You Dream? The World Tour Documentary and it takes you, the viewer inside Markus' professional life for the first time. Up close and at times personal, the camera captures his thoughts pre-gig in the ready-rooms, follows him through the anticipation of the backstage tunnels and up onto the stages of electronic dance music biggest, most celebrated events. Nature One, Sunrise, Dance Valley, Tomorrowland, Pleasure Island, Future Music, they're all here, their crowd-generated electricity caught in HD. If you've been to one, you'll want to see them all! From Amnesia nights, filmed from the pulpit to tornado-hit festivals in Russia and two-gigs-in-a-day dashes across Australia, you're with him every step, jolt, rush and drumbeat of the way. It also records Markus during rare downtime, which finds him everywhere from Vegas wedding chapels to wildlife parks in the outback. Break-of-dawn starts in home base Miami and late night, post-gig crash-outs at his European base in Berlin. The documentary also finds Markus talking frankly about the stresses and strains that 150 gigs a year places on an international DJ and talking about the revelation that touched his personal life two years ago. Markus' travelogue exploits on the DVD are naturally soundtracked by the incredible, extraordinary Do You Dream album audio. You can see him roll out D.Y.D. floor-quakers, sometimes for the first time and see the floor reaction. Not The Same, Away, 65.4HZ, Dark Heart Waiting, Surreal, Alpha State, Unsaid are all on there and the DVD also includes the full official videos for Dark Heart Waiting, Rain, Future Cities and Do You Dream. If you saw Markus Schulz play live anywhere in the latter part of 2010, this is the DVD you're going to want to see and own. Qlimax 2012 Live Registration Three Disc Limited Edition
Documentary DVD film by Davis Guggenheim featuring rock band U2 and the production of their 1991 album 'Achtung Baby'
Review:
From the Sky Down is a 2011 documentary film directed by Davis Guggenheim about rock band U2 and the production of their 1991 album Achtung Baby. The film documents the difficult recording period, the band members' relationships, and the group's creative process. Archival footage and stills from the recording sessions appear in the film, along with unreleased scenes from the group's 1988 motion picture Rattle and Hum. For the documentary, the band were filmed during a return visit to Hansa Studios in Berlin where the album was partly recorded, and during rehearsals in Winnipeg for the Glastonbury Festival 2011.[1] The film premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, and in October 2011, it was broadcast on television and commercially released in the 20th anniversary reissue of Achtung Baby.

The Pictures At An Exhibition was filmed at the Lyceum in London in December 1970. A slightly different version was recorded for a live album release in Newcastle in early 1971. The film version was finally released in cinemas in 1973 and has had brief previous releases on VHS and DVD. This new special edition, forty years on from when it was originally filmed, has the most complete version of the film available and is presented in the best possible sound and picture quality, complete with the original seventies psychedelic effects. The band is in fantastic form and their awesome musicianship is instantly apparent.

Mark Stewart first made his presence felt as the front man for The Pop Group in the late 1970's. They were pioneers of the post punk dance sound and had success with singles such as She Is Beyond Good & Evil and We Are All Prostitutes. When the band split in 1980, Mark joined the emerging On U Sound crew as a part time member of The New Age Steppers. He then went on to form his own band with Keith LeBlanc and Doug Wimbish, the rhythm section of the Sugar Hill Gang, and guitarist Skip McDonald. With Adrian Sherwood and his production magic at the controls, The Maffia unleashed an awesome mix of styles that sounded like Bootsy Collins jamming over a bootleg Jah Shaka tape in an urban warzone. This incredible mix of funk, dub and electronic overload pre empted Techno and Drum & Bass by years. Mark Stewart, often copied, never bettered. The film retraces the singer's steps and paths from the early days of The Pop Group right up to the present. Schifer, who followed Mark around for a full 3 years, has crafted a detailed, often intimate portrait of the artist, supplemented by interviews with a. o. Mark Stewart himself, Adrian Sherwood (On.U Sound), Daniel Miller (Mute Records), Nick Cave, Mick Harvey, Doug Wimbish, Skip McDonald, Keith LeBlanc, Douglas Hart (The Jesus & Mary Chain), Fritz Catlin (23 Skidoo), Mike Watt (Minutemen, The Stooges), Gareth Sager (The Pop Group, Rip Rig and Panic), Dan Catsis (The Pop Group), John Waddington (The Pop Group) Janine Rainforth (Maximum Joy), Massive Attack, Keith Levine (P.I.L.) and many others, plus never seen live recordings and music clips.

However, when the school turns out to be an upper crust prep school, they start to regret their decision. Just as the hostility between the two classes of students is about to get out of control, a poetry competition manages to bring students together.

He arrived on the Motown label in the late seventies and reinvigorated the company with a string of hit singles and albums and his outrageous style and personality. This concert filmed for the German TV series Rockpalast came on the back of his multi-platinum selling 1981 album 'Street Songs' which contained what would become his signature track 'Super Freak', later converted by MC Hammer into the global hit 'U Can't Touch This'. Rick James died at the age of just 56 in August 2004. We will probably never see his like again but this DVD shows just what an amazing live performer he was. There are few voices in popular music like that of Dead Can Dance's Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard. Perry's is rich and earthy, whereas Gerrard's multi-octave instrument is, at times, downright unearthly. Toward the Within, the audiovisual version of a 1993 concert at Santa Monica's Mayfair Theatre, chosen, no doubt, for its excellent acoustics, is a fine showcase for their unique talents.
Joined by five musicians on keyboards, strings and percussion, Mark Magidson (Baraka) has filmed the proceedings in a straightforward manner, but the music is intricate and exotic enough that no special effects or fancy camera moves are necessary. The songs, which incorporate pop, folk, and world-music influences, are interspersed with interview clips, turning the release into a hybrid between a concert video and a documentary. Highlights include the hypnotic Rakim and soaring American Dreaming.
