Trying to create a natural sounding earplug is no mean feat as far as your own voice is concerned because, as you will have experienced, when you block off your ear canal your own voice starts to boom inside your head, this is what we call occlusion. Occlusion is caused by sound that is carried to your ear canal through the cartilage at the side of your head and usually escapes through the open ear canal, so is not heard. When we block off the canal this sound cannot escape and so creates that booming effect. A large amount of occlusion can be eliminated by ensuring that the earplug sits deep enough into the ear canal to extend past the cartilage so that the sound hits the plug and is deadened rather than entering the canal at all but the Pacato filters go one step further. The Pacato is vented to allow sound to pass both ways which means that remaining sound can escape directly through the filter providing one of the most natural sounding earplugs available.

The Pacato also offers resilience to moisture and wax build up. Being shielded from external moisture with the hard outer shell means that the fabric filter membrane is protected from the elements so your earplug will keep on performing in adverse conditions but, in addition, the filters and plugs can be cleaned to keep them performing for years to come.

Review: ProGuard Custom Sound Attenuating Earplugs give your ears the protection needed to safeguard your hearing from excessive noise that can lead to tinnitus, deafness and other noise induced hearing loss symptoms. Fitted with calibrated acoustic filters, your ProGuards will reduce the sound reaching your eardrum without destroying the acoustics and dynamics of the sound; think of it as a volume control for your ear. Our Attenuating earplugs are supplied with a choice of three pairs of acoustic filters. together with a fitting tool. Please choose which pair you feel applies to the noise environment you expect to spend most time in. The Blue filter has an SNR rating of 18 dB ideal for moderate noise levels, the green filter with an SNR rating of 23 dB is for noisy conditions and the red filter rated at 25dB is for high noise areas. Other filters available are 14 dB for low noise areas and 26dB for high, the choice can be made when sending back your impressions.

Your new ProGuards will be manufactured from non-allergenic medical grade soft translucent silicon, making them durable, hard wearing and comfortable to wear for long periods without causing any undue discomfort. Cleaning the earplugs occasionally in warm soapy water and drying thoroughly before re-using is their only requirement to give years of long use.

The attenuating earplugs are available as in-canal style, the earplug will fit deep into the ear canal and not cover the bowl(concha) of the ear making them discreet and inconspicious to wear, yet still offer excellent all round hearing protection.

Made from soft silicon, the ProGuard BudPortz earmoulds are comfortable to wear and simple to clean, just run them under warm water.

The earmoulds generally fit most of the standard style of ear-bud phones with a diameter range of around 14-17mm. It is extremely simple to fit the earphones into the mould, they just press into place.

Each earplug is tailored to the individual client, it will fit like a glove into every nook and cranny of your complex ear anatomy. The custom-fit earplug will fit deep into the ear canal and sit comfortably there for long periods of time, without it becoming uncomfortable or feeling obtrusive. They were manufactured from clear tactile soft medical grade silicon, so they will require very little maintenance over their lifetime, just the occasional wash in warm soapy water and a quick dry before inserting them into the ear is all that is required.

Each ProGuard Music Custom earplug with new design comes fitted with its own replaceable 17 dB (mid) acoustic filter as standard. The filter is the clever and new part, a completely new design and constructed using intricate membrane technology. The ProGuard Eartip Sleeves are now available for many of the leading brands of earphones including Shure, Westone, Etymotic Research, Ultimate Ear and Sensorcom MicroBuds. Each manufacturers' earphones are completely different and it is a requirment that you also enclose your earphones when you send back your impressions. ProGuard will need to determine the correct orientation for the new eartips in your ear with the earphones for extra comfort. Some earphones also have a short audio delivery port, if this is the case then a small retention ring will need to be added to the port to stop the eartip slipping off in your ear when you take the earphones out. Please contact ProGuard if you have a make of earphone you would like custom sleeves for and ProGuard should be able to let you know if it is possible, some earphones are not suitable for this process.
