Analogue monosynth keyboard with analogue sequencer
Review: Analogue Solutions are proud to announce availability of Leipzig-S, the latest addition to its lengthening line of critically-acclaimed, quality-crafted boutique designs from founder Tom Carpenter in the true spirit of vintage analogue synthesisers befitting the true analogue synth enthusiast.

Evolving from its namesake Leipzig (rack-mounting) and Leipzig-k (keyboard-endowed) analogue monosynth predecessors, the rack-mountable/tabletop Leipzig-S literally goes several steps further by incorporating an in-built eight-step analogue sequencer that can be used to produce simple melodic lines as well as acting as a modulation source to affect the filter cutoff (or to create additional effects, depending on other control settings). VCO1, VCO2, and the VCF are all available as sequencer destinations; seemingly simple, yet favourably flexible, the step sequencer can be creatively controlled (clocked) by multiple sources, at audio frequencies (using VCO2 as a clock source), or using the output of the sequencer itself as an audio source to be played via MIDI while the eight step controls then alter the waveform/tonal content, for example, such are the adventurous advantages of packaging an analogue step sequencer with a true analogue monosynth.

The entire design is traditional early-eighties analogue (voice and modulation) circuitry, comprised entirely of discrete components and op-amps (bar, of course, the digital sequencer controller and MIDI-CV interfacing); since the Leipzig-S is a strictly no-memory affair, all controls are not quantised, resulting in an authentically vintage sound, replete with musically desirable quirks and subtle artifacts (much in the same way that, say, a valve amp or vinyl record adds sonic character), unlike some other modern analogue synths that arguably sound almost as perfect as DSP analogue modelling.

With electronic percussion having influenced the choice of routings, the Leipzig-S boasts a huge range of modulation possibilities to facilitate creating the widest possible range of sounds, including deep basses, sound effects, analogue loops and (obviously) electronic drum sounds. With this, his latest design, true analogue synth enthusiast Tom Carpenter is confident that he has achieved a modern analogue synth that truly does sound vintage.

The SK is almost identical to the S. But with the addition of a MIDI controller keyboard.

Multi-channel analogue sequencer offers 16 steps
Review: The Oberkorn is a fully fledged professional analogue sequencer providing plenty of control outputs and inputs and with some unique creative features never before seen. Whilst most new analogue sequencers only offer a limiting 8 steps, the Oberkorn offers the all important 16 steps. It is a multi-channel true analogue sequencer with some remarkable features.

8-step analogue sequencer
Review: The Station Q is like half an Oberkorn sequencer. It is identical to Oberkorn, except that it is 8 step instead of 16, and does not have the MIDI features. The Station Q is the perfect companion to the Station X/Y mini-modular combo.

Mini-modular synthesizer
Review: The Station X is a compact mini-modular synthesiser. It contains all the essential ingredients to form complete synth patches.

Think of it as a mini Red Square or Tereshkova. In fact, a mini Red Square is a good analogy. If has the same filter and similar key features (though Red Square is 2 VCO).

The Station X is ideal for beginners who want to dip their toes into the world of modular synths, the travelling producer who wants to take a true analogue modular synth around to different sessions, or home musician who perhaps is limited for space.

The Station-X comes with 5 x splitter leads, so you can feed a signal (source) to 2 x destinations. This is like having 5 x mini-multiple modules built in.

Module means no case or power provided, so it is a bare module that will fit into your own modular synth case (doepfer, concussor or other eurorack. Requires 6 free power sockets). The module will not work on it's own. You must provide it with power.

Keyboard version of the Telemark (SEM modular keyboard)
Review: The Telemark provides exactly the same features as the Semblance, but with the addition of modular synth patch points. This in effect turns it into a semi-modular design and means it can be interfaced to other modules and synths very easily.

The Telemark is a sturdily made white metal wedge, populated on the left side of the panel by lots of knobs and a few LEDs. The right side is devoted to a series of 1/8" sockets designed to provide access to core points in the synth's signal path. The back panel has a small socket for the supplied external PSU, MIDI input/thru, as well as 1/4" jack sockets for the main audio output and 2 external audio inputs.

The Telemark is an easy-to-use and fine-sounding synth, which is capable of a wide range of sounds. It uses the patch panel to add another dimension and offers some great options for processing external audio as well as transforming the internal palette. The MIDI spec gives the Telemark the ability to respond to both note on/off and velocity information for VCA and VCF sections. The patch panel allows you to route these elsewhere should you need to and a MIDI controller can be assigned to modulation duties should you wish.

The Telemark is a Oberheim SEM inspired synth like the Anyware Tinysizer, the Semtex XL and the Analogue Solutions Semblance are.

The Telemark-K is similar to original SEM but with Sample and hold, LFO square wave, noise, extra inputs, many more signal modulation options via rotary switches.

Analogue synthesizer
Review: Analogue Solutions manufacture the real deal when it comes to analogue synths.

The Telemetry is a mini version of the company's Vostok synth, and offers some great features including pure analogue voice circuitry (of course), mini-pin matrix patch panel to eliminate the use of patch cables, MIDI in for sequencer or keyboard control, white noise, and an X/Y non-sprung joystick. There's even on-board MIDI-CV conversion with pitch, auxiliary CV outputs, and gate.

Analogue pin-matrix synthesizer
Review: From UK manufacturer Analogue Solutions came the Vostok, a portable modular synthesizer that provides plenty of basic functions for producing and manipulating audio, as well as a few esoteric capabilities. Most notable are its matrix panel for patch programming and its suitcaselike box. Both are reminiscent of the classic EMS Synthi A that was highly regarded in the 1970s. Analogue Solutions stress that the Vostok is not a Synth A clone but is, rather, a configuration of modern electronics that borrows some of EMS's most practical design ideas.

The Vostok's modules include 2 x analog oscillators, a digital wavetable oscillator, a noise generator, 2 x filters, a voltage-controlled amplifier, 2 x ADSR generators, 2 x LFOs, a mixer, a ring modulator, and an 8-step analog sequencer. A built-in MIDI-to-control-voltage converter interfaces the Vostok with modern sequencers and other MIDI gear. With the exception of the MIDI circuitry and the wavetable oscillator, all the Vostok's circuits are completely analog.

Mini electronic synthesizer with 6 sound modes and MIDI capabilities
Review: The Pocket Piano MIDI has all the functionality of a Critter & Guitari Pocket Piano synthesizer, now with MIDI capabilities. It can interact with many other MIDI devices: drum machines, sequencers, computers, synthesizers, and other Pocket Piano MIDIs. It is both a sound module and a controller, sending and receiving MIDI note messages, and MIDI clock signals.

In addition to its intuitive interface, maple keys, built-in speaker, and aluminum and wood enclosure, it features the same 6 unique synth modes found on the original Pocket Piano:

Vibrato synth
Harmonic sweeper
2-Octave arpeggiator
Octave cascade
Mono FM synth
FM arpeggiator.

As a controller, the Pocket Piano MIDI sends out key presses as note messages, useful for triggering other synthesizers, samplers, or software. As a sound module the Pocket Piano MIDI responds to all 88 notes of a full size piano, so you are not limited to the 16 key range of the Pocket Piano. Using a full size controller, you can take advantage of the Pocket Pianos unique sounds and arpeggiators over a much larger range. Larger range = more fun.

But the fun doesn't stop there. The Pocket Piano MIDI also sends and receives MIDI clock, so you can synchronize the Pocket Piano's arpeggiators with your favorite drum machine, sequencer, or computer software. The Pocket Piano MIDI passes all received clock messages to its output, allowing you to chain many Pocket Pianos together to create an orchestra of Pocket Pianos.

The Critter & Guitari Pocket Piano MIDI is powered by one 9V battery or a 9V DC power supply.

Video synthesizer produces colorful oscilloscope style patterns on a TV or projector
Review: The new and improved video synthesizer produces colorful oscilloscope style patterns on a television or projector. It reacts to audio input and works particularly well with simple bassy tones.

The Video Scope has 2 knobs. One knob controls the input gain, and the other knob selects the display mode. There are now 4 modes: line, color shifter, trapezoid, and randomizer. The randomizer function randomly selects one of the other 3 modes at an adjustable rate. This is useful for hands free operation, and keeps the display always changing.

The video below demonstrates some of the possible patterns (this is an older video, so only the first 2 modes are being used). The sound in the video is the same sound that is feeding into the device to generate the patterns. Since it responds to an audio signal, the sky is the limit with the different kinds of patterns you can get.

Reproduction of one of the most sought after and classic mono synthesizers to date
Review: The Bass Bot is an analog, monophonic synthesizer and sequencer, an incredible reproduction of one of the most sought-after analog synths ever. The sound is authentic not because of good sampling or modeling, but because it uses identical circuitry: classic transistor-based circuit design, using 21st century technology.

The sequencer uses classic step-entry programming, and stores up to 224 editable patterns, as well as 224 bot-generated preset (non-editable) patterns. The Bass Bot holds 7 songs of up to 127 bars, with everything stored in onboard flash memory, which means it will stay there when you turn the unit off.

The TT-303 is indispensible for acid and techno house music, great for hip-hop, and just a whole lot of fun! Fatboy Slim says "Everybody Needs a 303!": here is your chance to get one.

Monophonic analog synthesizer
Review: The Dave Smith Instruments Mopho Desktop Synthesiser Module is a compact and affordable but powerful monophonic analog synth.

The voice architecture is identical to the single voice of the Prophet '08, but with a couple of unique twists to distinguish it from its award-winning sibling. They've have added 2 sub-octave generators, one per oscillator, for additional girth and crushing basses. It also has an audio input that lets you process external audio and mix Mopho's own audio output back in pre-filter for feedback effects that can range from subtle distortion to extreme skronk.

The push it button is a manual trigger that lets you play a specific note or latch notes and sequences on. It can also step through a sequence to play short melodic lines without a keyboard. Of course, the Mopho can also be used with a MIDI controller or external sequencer.

The Mopho is fully programmable and all the parameters can be tweaked from the front panel. The 4 assignable parameters controls are assignable per program for optimum performance control. A free editor is available for Mac OS and Windows to facilitate programming. (If you already have a Prophet '08, most of the Mopho's parameters can be controlled from the Prophet's front panel via MIDI).

The Mopho is perfect for people who want to learn the inputs and outputs of real analog synthesis without spending a bundle, DJs looking to add some old school sonic spice to their setups and musicians who will appreciate a great-sounding, very portable mono synth.

Keyboard version of the Mopho monophonic analog synthesizer
Review: The Dave Smith Instruments Mopho Keyboard synthesizer is a much requested keyboard version of the popular Mopho monophonic analog synthesizer. This offers the same compact, affordable and powerful functions as its brother but with more knobs, switches and of course, a 32-note weighted keyboard.

The voice architecture of the Mopho is identical to a single voice of the Prophet '08, but with a couple of unique twists. DSI have added 2 sub-octave generators, one per oscillator for additional girth and crushing bass. It also has an audio input that lets you process external audio and mix Mopho's own audio output back in pre-filtered for feedback effects that range from subtle distortion to extreme skronk.

The DSI Mopho is fully programmable and all parameters can be tweaked from the front panel making this version a lot easier than its little brother. You can also expand the voicing of the Mopho by combining it with the Tetra synthesiser, giving you 5-voices at your disposal. The Mopho is perfect for people who want to learn analog synthesis without spending a fortune.

A polyphonic 61 key digital/analog hybrid synthesizer
Review: The Poly Evolver Keyboard is DSI's flagship synthesizer, a nearly-knob-per-function knockout that sounds unlike any other synth out thereiexcept another Evolver, of course! Don't like a high-end hardware synth that requires wading through endless menus to program? Not an issue with the Poly Evolver's 78 knobsi60 of them potentiometersiand 58 buttons, incuding a keypad for direct access of programs.

An analog/digital hybrid, the 4-voice Poly Evolver features four oscillators per voiceitwo analog and two digitaliin a unique stereo voice architecture with a real Curtis analog low-pass filter per channel. The digital processing does not simply add effects at the end of the signal chain, but is tightly integrated with the analog electronics for tuned feedback, distortion, bit crushing, and synced delays. It can also process external audio and has separate stereo outputs for each voice.

The Poly Evolver is capable of producing sounds ranging from classic analog to more brash and edgy digital sounds. It is also multitimbral, with the ability to play up to 4 parts simultaneously through separate stereo outputs. And it can process external audio.

The Poly Evolver is not a generic slab workstation. If you're looking for realistic pianos and strings, keep looking. But if you want a truly unique, inspirational, real instrument, look no further.

Review: The Dave Smith Instruments Prophet '08 Pot Edition 8-voice analog synthesizer offers an alternative with 38 of the 52 front panel parameters controlled by pots (potentiometers); rotary encoders are still used for the remainder of the controls.

The Dave Smith Instruments Prophet '08 Pot Edition is exactly the same as the non-pot version. The difference is strictly in the controls themselves. Encoders are endless, they have no minimum or maximum limit. The advantage to that is that when you edit a preset parameter, the change begins at the preset value and increases or decreases, depending upon the direction turned.

Pots typically have about 270- of travel and have definite limits. The advantage to that is that you know, by feel, where the minimum and maximum limits are and you can sweep through the entire value range in less than one full turn.

The Prophet '08 PE features 3 edit modes for the pots: Relative, Passthru, and Jump. In relative mode, the value change is relative to the preset value. In passthru mode, turning the pot has no effect until after the edited value equals the preset value (that is, until the edited value passes through the stored value). Jump mode uses an absolute value based upon the position of the pot when edited; turn a pot and the value jumps immediately from the stored value to the edited value.

In passthru mode, turning the pot has no effect until after the edited value equals the preset value (that is, until the edited value passes through the stored value). Jump mode uses an absolute value based upon the position of the pot when edited; turn a pot and the value jumps immediately from the stored value to the edited value.

Review: The Tetra is Dave Smith Instruments' next-generation analog poly synth. It takes the award-winning sound and features of Mopho, multiplies them by 4 and packs them in a box less than half an inch larger.

The Tetra has multiple personalities. It is a 4-voice, analog poly synth, a sort of mini Prophet. It's a 4-part, multitimbral synth with separate outputs, essentially 4 Mophos in one very compact box.

Physically, the Tetra is similar to Mopho, with 4 assignable parameter controls per program and a row of controls dedicated to the most commonly used performance parameters. All of the parameters can be accessed from the front panel and the Tetra is fully programmable. A free, downloadable editor is available for Mac OS and Windows to facilitate more comprehensive tweaking.

Most of the rotary controls are detented encoders, but Cutoff and Resonance are potentiometers, allowing full sweeps with a single turn. The Push It button is a manual trigger to play notes and latch sequences on without the need for a MIDI controller.

Audio is output in mono, stereo or per voice, via the four audio output jacks. There is also a headphone out. MIDI communication is by standard MIDI in and out jacks or USB. Poly Chain Out is a special, dedicated MIDI output to chain multiple instruments for increased polyphony.

The voice architecture is based on the Prophet '08, but with the addition of a sub-octave generator for each oscillator and a fully programmable feedback loop for each voice. That breaks down to 2 DCOs, a resonant low-pass filter, 3 DADSR envelope generators, four LFOS, deep modulation routing, an arpeggiator and a 16 x 4 analog-style step sequencer per voice. Feedback is capable of producing effects ranging from mild distortion to fairly extreme harmonic instability. (That's a good thing.) The possibilities are nearly endless. And the audio signal path is 100 analog.

In program mode, the Tetra is a 4-voice, polyphonic synthesizer with four banks of 128 programs. As with the Prophet '08, each program contains two layersieach layer is essentially a separate patchithat can be used to create keyboard splits or stacked sounds. Banks 1 and 2 are the Prophet '08 factory programs; banks 3 and 4 are a combination of Mopho and new programs.

In combo mode, a different program can be assigned to each of the 4 voices. Combos can be used for mammoth unison patches or for triggering up to 4 different 16 x 4 sequencesieach with its own programisimultaneously. Combos can also be used to create modular-style polyphonic patches, where each voice plays a different program, with a slight variation on the same sound or even a drastically different sound.

In multi mode, the Tetra becomes a multitimbral sound module capable of playing four monophonic parts on four MIDI channels, with separate outputs for each voice. Coupled with a MIDI sequencer and DAW, the Tetra can play complex arrangements or analog drum parts with each part individually processed and recorded to its own track.

Up to 4 Tetras can be poly chained for 8, 12, or 16 voices total. When used with a Prophet '08, up to 2 Tetras can be poly chained for a maximum of sixteen voices. In addition, the Prophet's front panel controls map directly to almost all of Tetra's parameters, so the Prophet acts as a programmer and control surface. And a Mopho can be connected to Tetra's Poly Chain Out for five-voice operation.

A monophonic stand-alone synthesizer with USB and MIDI interface
Review: The Dark Energy II is a monophonic stand-alone synthesizer with USB and MIDI interface. The sound generation and all modulation sources are 100% analog, only the USB/MIDI interface contains digital components. The Dark Energy is built into a rugged black metal case with wooden side plates. High quality potentiometers with metal shafts are used and each potentiometer, except the filter mode control, is fixed to the case (no wobbly shafts and knobs). The distance between the controls is a bit wider compared to A-100 modules and knobs with vintage look are used.

VCO:

Sawtooth based VCO core
Manual tune control (with an internal jumper the range can be set to ~ +/-1 half an octave or ~ +/-2.5 octaves)
Range switch -1 / 0 / +1 octave
FM (frequency modulation) control with modulation source switch (LFO1 / off / ADSR)
Manual pulsewidth control for rectangle waveform
PWM control with modulation source switch (LFO2 / off / ADSR)
Waveform switch (sawtooth / off / clipped/inverted sawtooth)
The sum of the waveform chosen by this switch and the rectangle is fed into the VCF (to turn the rectangle off the PW control has to be set fully CCW)
External CV input for VCO frequency (1V/octave)
External CV input for external PWM of the rectangle
Internal CV input for frequency (1V/octave) connected to the CV1 output of the built-in USB/Midi interface
Because of the pure analog circuit and the temperature control it may take up to 30 minutes until the VCO is in tune.

VCF:

12dB multimode filter with lowpass, notch, highpass and bandpass
Mode control for continuous transition from lowpass via notch to highpass and along to bandpass
Manual frequency control
Tracking switch half - off - full (internally connected to the external frequency CV input of the VCO, i.e. the VCF tracks to the VCO if the switch is set to half or full position)
Exponential frequency modulation control (XFM) with modulation source switch (LFO2 / off / ADSR), the XFM control has polarizer function, i.e. the modulation source (LFO2 or ADSR) selected by the Source switch may affect the filter frequency in a positive (right half of the control range) or negative way (left half of the control range)
Manual resonance control (up to self oscillation)
External audio input (this signal is added to the VCO signal)
External CV input for filter frequency
1V/octave tracking for usage of the VCF as a sine wave oscillator over a few octaves (not as precise as the VCO and not temperature compensated, but much better than most of the other filters)

VCA:

Manual amplitude control (initial gain)
AM (amplitude modulation) control with modulation source switch (LFO1 / off / ADSR)
External CV input for VCA amplitude
Exponential scale.

LFO1 and LFO2:

Manual frequency control
Waveform switch (triangle / off / rectangle)
Range switch (low, audio, medium)
LED display (dual green/red color for positive/negative share of the signal)
The LFO1 signal is available as an additional socket (to use the LFO1 signal for external modules)
An internal jumper can be used to select between the LFO1 signal or the inverted LFO1 signal.

ADSR:

Manual controls for Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release
Range switch (long, short, medium)
Blue LED display
ADSR signal is available as an additional socket (to use the ADSR signal for external modules)
External Gate input (normalled via switching contact of the socket to the Gate output of the built-in USB/Midi interface)

USB/MIDI-interface:

MIDI channel and reference note are adjusted by means of a learn button and LED at the rear panel. The interface generates the gate signal that controls the envelope generator and 3 x analog control voltages: CV1 is used to control the pitch of the VCO, CV2 the VCF frequency (free assignable Midi controller) and CV3 is available as an additional socket at the rear panel (controlled by volume/velocity). It can be patched e.g. to the VCA control input.

The 3 x CVs and the gate signal are also available at the rear panel as jack sockets cascading of several units via internal MIDI O/I connection, because of shortage of space the unit has no MIDI output socket available this connection has to be established internally, for this the metal case has a hole on both sides so that the MIDI O/I connection can be made via this hole provided that both units are mounted to one another, the MIDI output has thru function with one exception: the signal does not include the MIDI note messages that have been processed already, consequently polyphonic cascading (all daisy-chained Dark Energies on the same MIDI channel) or monophonic cascading (different MIDI channels) is possible, it's possible to connect only the first unit to USB and pass on the MIDI data via the internal MIDI link to other devices.

The Analog Four is the best of 2 worlds. The power of analog synthesis is enhanced with precise Elektron sequencing for a machine par excellence. This is an analog synthesizer for the modern age.

The Analog Four is a 4 voice analog synthesizer. Analog oscillators and filters ensure the most organic sounds imaginable and the Elektron step sequencer caters for the innovative sound control. With sequencer features like parameter locks and variable length per track, intricate the Analog Four compositions can be created quickly and efficiently. Add the completely new and incredibly well-crafted effects to the mix and experience the next chapter in analog sounds. It just sounds right.

Not only a splendid sound making device, the Analog Four can also make other gear sing. Thanks to the CV/gate and DIN sync outputs, legacy analog gear can be controlled in great detail. Sequencer features like arpeggiators and parameter locks will breathe new life in old equipment and make any modular synthesizer rig truly come alive.

Live performance features are aplenty. The special performance mode gives direct access to user-defined parameters and direct pattern change makes it possible to change patterns at any sequencer step. The arpeggiator can be instantly toggled on or off for swirling melody lines. Improvising when playing live has never been this easy. The Analog Four was born for the stage.

Analogue synthesizer with a VCO designed in the tradition of MS-20 and TB-303
Review: The Domino is a discrete analogue synthesizer with a VCO in the tradition of MS20 and TB303. The VCO, filter & VCA are transistor made. This transistor architecture gives the Domino a unique raw sound. Rich and raw at the same time, no need of external effects to give life to the sound. The VCO offers a mix between sawtooth and square. Pulsewidth can be modulated by the LFO. The filter is a low-pass 24dB resonant filter. The analogue envelope range is from 1ms to 10s with attack, decay, sustain/release. The LFO has 8 different waveforms. On waveform 8, the modulation wheel can replace the LFO. MIDI CC 8 to 16 can transform the LFO in a sequencer to modulate pitch, pulsewidth, filter cutoff. The VCA can be modulated by a gate or by an envelope. In the legato mode, playing notes will generate glide between 2 notes. The glide time can be edited via MIDI CC. Additional features like a 8 steps sequencer, an arpeggiator and an accent recognition capability turns the Domino into a powerful tool.

Analogue bassline synthesizer
Review: The Magma is an analogue bassline synthesizer inspired by classical synths from the 1980s. It offers the possibility to mix 4 x different waveforms (saw, square, sub, noise). The 24dB low-pass filter is also inspired from classical filters from the 80s.

To this particular sound of the 80s, Eowave added a touch of modernity with modern controls and parameters saving features. The 16 x steps sequencer has 4 x rows: 1 for the notes and 3 x freely assignable to a parameter of your choice that enables to create living sequences with sonorities like Vince Clark or Yann Hammer.

Analogue duophonic ribbon synthesizer, compatible with the computer environment with a USB I/O, MIDI I/O and 4 CV outputs
Review: Eowave's new analogue duophonic ribbon synthesizer.

Eowave are rethinking instruments from the past with smart sensor technology. The result is a new innovative instrument with real analogue oscillators, a duophonic ribbon, 100% compatible with the computer environment with a USB I/O, MIDI I/O and 4 CV out.

Sensor technology now enables to recreate controls like ribbons with a new accuracy and a new duophonic process. The ribbon enables to play glissando like on a Theremin, les Ondes Martenots or a Trautonium. The addition of 1 x oscillator takes all its dimension with the new duophonic ribbon which extends the instrument sonorities spectral to play simple chords, but also enables numberless modulations, e.g. FM of one oscillator on the second one.

The Persephone markII has 2 x analogue oscillators with a waveform from triangle to saw, going from 1Hz to more than 20000Hz. An analogue resonant 12dB low-pass filter inspired from the filters from the 70s-80s enables to shape the sound. With its entire analogue audio signal path, the Persephone markII can generate notes with a continuous variable range up to 10 x octaves to create deep and resonant cello tones on the lowest notes to ultrasonic frequencies on the highest pitches. An optical modulation key will transmit the slightest vibration for expressive modulations.

16 x routing presets enable to select different routing architectures between the sound parameters and the 7 controls available (ribbon pressure, ribbon position1 & 2, key, pedals 1 & 2, LFO) for 8 destinations (lo pitch, hi pitch, filter, VCA lo, VCA hi, filter mod1, filter mod2 and VCA). 8 x presets are fixed and 8 are editable users presets configurable thru a free software. Users routing presets will be stored in the Persephone2 internal memory. This new section significantly increases the instrument control and modulation possibilities.

The A/D conversion is made with Eowave ESS DSP. This process assures a 12 bits resolution (4096 values) conversion for an accurate musical gesture. It's 100% MIDI compatible and uses USB full speed 12 MB/s. This makes the Persephone2 compatible with all MIDI compatible softwares whilst the latency is reduced at less than 1.5ms.

With a complete I/O section featuring 4 x CV outputs, 2 x pedals inputs, MIDI in & out, audio out, USB (MIDI), the Persephone markII can be turned into a powerful and unique controller to control most of your analogue or digital synths.

61 key analogue modelling synthesizer
Review: Ready for live performance.

The KingKorg is the full-fledged analog modeling synthesizer you've been waiting for. It carries on the design philosophy of classic Korg analog synthesizers. This exciting new instrument delivers the unique characteristics of a dedicated synthesizer, especially the fun of transforming the sound by tweaking an impressive array of knobs. While technologically impressive, the KingKorg is approachable even to players who are new to synthesizers. And it particularly shines on stage, not only with its great sound, but also literally with a gorgeous champagne gold finish, befitting its royal name, the KingKorg.

A feature unique to the KingKorg is the new XMT (Xpanded Modelling Technology) modelling sound engine that simplifies the overall operation of the synth whilst still being able to produce a wide variety of incredible sounding tones. The KingKorg provides pre-set algorithms that contain combinations of familiar oscillator sounds such as sawtooth, square and noise as well as numerous PCM/DWGS algorithms to sculpt unique and personal sounds.

Korg have also included powerful and diverse modelling filters based on classic synthesizers from the '70s and '80s that allow unique sound shaping, as well as a faithful recreation of Korg's own MS20 analogue synthesizer. Being analogue modelled, the filters closely mimic behaviour such as self-oscillation and distortion for aggressive leads and basses.

The KingKorg also features 3 master effects slots, each with a choice of 6 effects. Firstly there is Pre FX which includes distortions and amp simulators; Mod FX for classic choruses and phasers; and Rev/ Delay with effects such as hall reverb and modulation delay. Alongside these there are control knobs to fine tune the effect.

Korg have also included a vocoder section with an on-board microphone input, to get those Daft Punk robot voice sounds as well as the creative freedom to use a voice as the basis for new tonal creations. The KingKorg also has Formant Shift to modify the character as well as Formant Hold which freezes a vowel sound to be played back across the keys.

Perhaps one of the more striking features is the intuitive new panel layout that makes it so easy to use, with a dedicated display for the oscillator clearly showing the current algorithm. There is also a function for selecting sounds by type such as Analog or PCM, and plenty of knobs spaciously laid out that give immediate hands on control of the most important parameters, making production and performance a more tactile experience.

Korg microKORG 10th anniversary limited edition
Review: Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the microKORG.

Korg's microKORG virtual analog synthesizer has gathered an enormous following among both professionals and amateurs since it appeared in 2002, and continues to be actively used around the world even today, maintaining the same high standard for the past decade. In 2007, Korg celebrated the 5th anniversary of the microKORG's creation by releasing the microKORG BK. The reversed keys drew a great deal of attention being reminiscent of the reverse model of the classic Korg POLY-800, and also due to its limited availability.

Now in 2012, Korg are releasing a new model that commemorates the 10th anniversary of the microKORG: the microKORG BKRD. For musicians who want to emphasize their personality, this custom colour model is an instant way to stand out from the crowd. The distinctive high contrast of the Black x Red model that's sure to raise the energy level on stage with its black and red reversed keyboard.

The microKORG boasts the same dual-oscillator DSP synthesis engine found in Korg's critically acclaimed MS2000 and offers a wider selection of waveforms than any other modeled synth. Oscillator 1 features a total of 71 waveforms. These include traditional analog waves like saw, pulse, sine and noise, plus more unique choices like Vox wave and cross wave. Together they provide a cool selection that can be modulated to produce an extensive range of timbres. In addition, 64 exclusive DWGS waveforms from Korg's classic DW-8000 enable the microKORG to reproduce a broad collection of imitative sounds. Sounds like bells, electric pianos, guitars, basses and more that would be difficult reproduce on an analog synthesizer. You can also apply Ring and Sync modulation from Oscillator 2 to create the kind of complex timbres that are the true sign of an advanced synthesizer.

4 filter modes are available, offering -12dB (2-pole) low pass, high pass and band pass configurations plus an extra steep -24dB (4-pole) low pass setting. All include resonance. 2 classic ADSR envelope generators and two MIDI-syncable LFOs provide the power to shape your sounds. Add a Virtual Patch matrix that lets you create advanced modulation settings, routing the mod wheel to control filter cutoff or pulse width, using an LFO to control panning or amp level, etc. and you have performance that is unheard of from a synthesizer in this price range.

The microKORG includes an 8-band vocoder with many advanced features. You can capture and freeze the formants of your voice, and then play it across the keyboard, or shift the formant frequency to make your voice sound male, female, like a child or just plain wacky. Best of all, the microKORG comes with its own microphone so you can start having fun right away.

3 types of modulation effects (chorus/flanger, phaser, ensemble), 3 types of delay effects (stereo, cross, L/R), and a 2-band equalizer add the finishing touch to the microKORG. The delays can be synchronized with the arpeggiator or to an external MIDI clock, a great feature for live performances or for laying down tracks. All effects can be edited to create your own, unique sounds.

Review: Updated in both its appearance and sounds, the microKORG XL+ is now available in limited-edition colour variations. With its black-based colour scheme, the microKORG XL+-BKBK is the Full Black model that emanates a sense of understated elegance, even when placed on a chaotic live stage. Simply seeing the distinctive contrasting keyboard and body colour of the Black x Red microKORG XL+ BKRD will inspire performances to a higher level.
Which model inspires you?

With its unmistakably unique exterior and its inimitable sound, the microKorg set the standard for analog modeling synthesizers. The year 2008 saw the introduction of the microKorg XL, which inherited the microKorg's fat and powerful sounds, while adding keyboard staples such as electric piano and the CX-3 organ. And now, in the next evolutionary step, the microKorg XL+ delivers a fresh update to the sounds and design of the microKorg XL, making it the ideal compact keyboard.

The microKORG XL featured a sound selector that lets you choose your sound using 2 large dials: music genre and instrument category. The new microKORG XL+ offers an additional selection of these music genres to fit today's fast-moving music scene. Now you can select a program that matches your song more intuitively than ever. For even more convenience, you can also leave one of the dials fixed and only use the other dial to make program changes during a song (music genre fixed), or use the dial to select vocoder variations (instrument category fixed).

Lush analog modeled synthesizer sounds that are characteristic of the microKORG have been freshly added to the microKORG XL+. In addition, for band use, the microKORG XL+ comes equipped with the piano sound from Korg's classic stage piano, the SGproX (famous for its ability to stand out in your band's mix), as well as its hard-edged grand-type electric piano. This compact package also includes sounds from the M1 and the VOX organ, vintage tape-type string and flute machines, as well as other gorgeous sounds from keyboard history. Each of these 128 programs are genuinely usable sounds, giving the microKORG XL+ plenty of variety to serve as your main keyboard or of course as a secondary keyboard in your rig.

The microKORG XL+ projects a style that's reminiscent of vintage electric pianos, featuring a futuristic yet retro design with a stylish black panel. High-quality parts such as metal levers, dials that move with an audible click, and knobs with a sturdy operating feel are some of the ways that the microKORG XL+ outclasses other instruments in its range and enhances your experience editing synthesizer sounds.

The microKORG XL+'s sound engine uses MMT (Multiple Modeling Technology), borrowing from Korg's well proven wealth of analog modeling technology. The MMT sound engine has been featured on numerous products, and provides 2 oscillators that generate huge powerful sounds. Oscillator 1 (OSC1) gives you a total of 7 types of oscillator algorithm to choose from, including formant waveforms such as human voice, and PCM/DWGS waveforms for vintage keyboard and strings. It also lets you use techniques that cannot be imitated on typical PCM synthesizers, such as cross modulation, unison, and VPM (Variable Phase Modulation). By taking advantage of modulation (sync or ring) with oscillator 2 (OSC2), it's easy to create complex and powerful sounds.

The microKORG XL+ can function as a powerful vocoder that lets you connect a mic and use its audio input to shape the tonal character of the oscillator's sound to create talking effects. The vocoder consists of a 16-band filter bank that can simulate the vocoder sounds of the past and also shift the filter frequencies (Format Shift function) or adjust the level and pan of each band to dramatically change the sonic character. Using the Vocoder is an easy way to add sounds that can be found in today's popular electronic music. Since a gooseneck microphone is included, you can immediately start using thevocoder in your songs.

2 master effects utilize the effect engine that was brought to perfection in Korg's Kaoss Pad series, giving you a total of 17 powerful effect types including delay and echo effects as well as dramatic effects such as ring modulator and grain shifter. In addition, effects such as delay can be synchronized to MIDI clock for a wide range of possibilities in live performance.

Analog ribbon synthesizer
Review: Korg are no newcomer to the joys of analog synthesis. Back in the 1970s, Korg astounding fully polyphonic PS-3000 Series and our affordable semi modular MS Series set the bar for creative musicians around the globe. Surely one of the most popular of Korg's analog synthesizers was the coveted MS-20, famous for its dynamic sound creation capabilities and its fat, snarly, expressive filter. Kept popular by dance and electronic artists, this legendary MS-20 filter came back to life using the Component Modeling Technology in Korg's Legacy software collections. Now you can experience the glorious, evocative MS-20 filter along with true analog synthesis in Korg's new monotron Analogue Ribbon Synthesizer.

Powered by 2 alkaline AAA batteries, the compact monotron can be held in one hand. Although small enough to easily carry with you, the amazing monotron is packed with KORG's legendary analog technology, generating thick and powerful sounds. Concentrating on the most important sound parameters, the controls have been streamlined as much as possible. The panel contains only five knobs and one switch. With this level of simplicity, now anyone can easily enjoy the world of analog synthesizers.

Borrowing the enjoyment of performing with a simple touch from Korg's wildly popular KAOSS products, the monotron's ribbon controller keyboard takes this ease of use even farther. Simple finger gestures can produce expressive effects such as vibrato and glide. Used in a band, you can expand your possibilities by harmonizing with another instrument U or taking center stage for a monotron solo.

The monotron's circuit is radically simple: one voltage-controlled oscillator, one voltage-controlled filter, and one low frequency oscillator. Since each knob directly applies a specific change to the sound, the process of sound creation is intuitive, and instantly understandable. Simple is best. Gone are the deep lists of presets and parameters typical of today's synthesizers. Instead, the monotron encourages exploration and experimentation. The monotron provides the joy of sonic creativity that's at the heart of analog synthesis, making it an ideal choice for someone who is new to synthesizers, or for musicians who wants to expand their sonic palette.

The monotron uses the same highly acclaimed VCF circuit as KORG's classic MS-10 and MS-20 semi modular synthesizers. Originally released over 30 years ago, these instruments are still coveted today for their aggressive, dynamic filters. The VCF Cutoff knob sets the frequency or tone of the filter; the VCF Peak knob adds emphasis. A powerful filter is an essential aspect of any analog synthesizer, applying dramatic tonal changes to the sound, and projecting an intense personality that will stand out in any live performance.

Just as on the original MS-20, the monotron's filter can be patched into, allowing any external audio source to be processed by the monotron's filter. The input jack (AUX input) built into the monotron's compact body inserts the AUX input into the signal path right before the VCF. This provides a great way to connect a Kaossilator, a keyboard, a guitar, a digital audio player or even an un-mixed track to the monotron and enjoy tone-bending filter effects.

You can switch the LFO to control either the oscillator pitch or the filter cutoff frequency. Both LFO Rate and LFO Intensity knobs are provided. As you turn the LFO Rate knob U featuring an embedded LED U the speed of the modulation effect and the speed of the blinking LED will change in tandem. Turning this knob can add another level of impact to your live performances.

A miniature speaker is built into the monotron. Along with the battery operation and compact size, this feature allows you to enjoy the monotron anywhere, at any time. The ultimate in compactness, this system brings you new possibilities for performance. There's also a headphone output that you can use when creating sounds at home, for recording, or for connecting to an amplifier or PA system.

Analogue ribbon portable synthesizer with delay effects
Review: A good delay was an essential part of the classic analog synthesizer sound. More often than not, that delay came from a tape-style echo machine until affordable digital delays were created. The Monotron Delay is an analog synthesizer optimized for sound effects. In addition to its analog oscillator, filter and LFO, it also provides a space delay that's indispensible for swooping, cosmic sounds. The monotron Delay even reproduces the pitch changes that occur when you vary the delay time, just as though you were using an analog tape echo. This fat and warm delay will add an authentic edge to your analog sounds.

It also features Korg's class VCF filter for full control over your sounds. The distinctive tone of an analog filter (VCF) can dramatically alter and enrich the sound. The Monotron Delay uses the same highly acclaimed VCF circuit as Korg's classic MS-10 and MS-20 semi modular synthesizers.

The input jack (AUX input) built into the Monotron Duo's compact body allow you to place any audio source into the Monotron Duo's signal path, directly before the analog filter. This provides a great way to connect a Kaossilator, a guitar, or a digital audio player to the Monotron and enjoy tone-bending filter effects.

A miniature speaker is built into the Monotron Duo. Along with the battery operation and compact size, this feature allows you to enjoy the share the Monotron Duo's analog synthesis sound with your friends, anywhere, at any time. There's also a headphone output that you can use when practicing in private, creating sounds at home, recording, or for connecting to an amplifier or PA system.

Analogue synthesizer
Review: The Dominion X is MFB's latest synthesizer. It combines analogue synthesis, programmability and modular patching. With advanced circuits, increased functionality and a new design, the Dominion X is the first of MFB's next generation musical instruments.

The Dominion X offers 3 oscillators for maximum flexibility. Each waveform can be varied in symmetry. Besides altering the pulse width of a rectangle, you may also continuously turn a saw tooth into a triangle and a triangle into a sine. All oscillators also offer ring modulation. In addition, VCO 2 and VCO 3 can be synced to VCO1. Finally, VCO3 can modulate the frequency of VCO 1 and VCO 2. The analogue oscillator circuit is processor-controlled for stable tuning. To complete the available sound sources, noise or an external audio input can be added to the VCOs in the Dominion X's mixer section.

The filter offers six operation modes. Available are three low pass variations with 12, 18 and 24 dB/oct. slopes. Also available are high pass-, band pass and a notch filter with slopes of 12 dB/oct. respectively 6 dB/oct. Variable filter modulations are possible via an invertible envelope, keyboard tracking, LFO, VCO, different MIDI controllers as well as by the use o the CV-input.

The 2 ADSR-type envelops are internally routed to the VCF- and VCA-sections. In addition, envelope 1 can also modulate the VCO section. LFOs 1 and 2 offer 6 waveform shapes including sample & hold. They may be switched to one-shot-modes to emulation simple envelopes. A third sine-LFO works in combination with a keyboard's modulation wheel and can dynamically address the VCO, VCF and VCA sections.

Modulations are assigned by the use of selector switches, located at the destinations. This allows easily setting and re-routing internal modulation paths, ideally for your live-performance.

To integrate external modulators, control- and audio sources, the Dominion X offers nine inputs. Therefore, oscillators, filter, VCA, CV/Gate and mixer can be easily combined with other analogue synthesizers, analogue sequencers or modular synthesizer systems.

An additional selector switch allows assignment of velocity for up to eleven modulation destinations.

The Dominion X offers 128 programmable patches for your personal sound creations. To support sound programming without an attached keyboard, different demo sequences are available. To use the Dominion X as a filter box for external audio sources, the VCA can be opened permanently. Finally, there is an insert available to integrate an effect or distortion unit into the signal path.

Furthermore, the Dominion X has the dimensions: 330mm x 170mm x 60mm. An external power supply is included.

Review: The Synthlab SL-1uses a 100 percent true analog circuitry with subtractive synthesis which is designed in a classic way. This design is not new because it started in the early 70s with the voltage controlled modular systems. The Synthlab uses low pass filter based on the transistor cascade

As the Synthlab SL-1 has a built-in MIDI interface, you will find it easy to integrate into any MIDI studio setup. The Synthlab also has a built-in MIDI-To-CV/Gate interface which can become very handy, when using vintage equipment. The Synthlab is a hand-made true discrete analogue synthesizer built in Germany. Mode Machines have used components from the 70s and 80s but also modern technology. There are no DSPs or such built-in, so the sound is true, pure and very experimental like a small synthesizer laboratory.

The setup of the Synthlab SL-1 is very easy-to-use if you have played around with other analog synthesizers. Every parameter has its own pot for controlling and playing with the modulation and everything can be controlled manually in real-time. The controls of the modules are divided into groups on the frontplate so they can be visually separated for easier use. For basic setup you have 2 VCOs and an external audio input. The selected signal can be routed through the VCF and VCA before it reaches the audio output. For each VCF and VCA you have an own envelope generator. Additionally you have various modulation routing possibilities through the LFOs.

73-key keyboard synthesizer, piano & organ
Review: The new Nord Electro 4 x series feature everything from the award winning Electro 3 series, adding the acclaimed new Nord C2D tone wheel engine and 122 x rotary speaker simulation, USB MIDI and more.

The Nord Electro 4 features the B3 tone wheel organ engine from Nord flagship organ Nord C2D and includes a redesigned Key Click simulation as well as the Rotary Speaker simulation of a vintage 122 x unit with a great new overdrive. The percussion model has been improved to offer increased control over the percussion levels when playing near-legato. Naturally, the vibrato and chorus scanners have been carefully modeled to be just as alive as the tone wheels.

The Farfisa and Vox models are just as impressive as the B3, simulating the behavior and unique response of the original instruments. The Farfisa Compact Deluxe, considered by many to be the mother of transistor organs, involves routing matrixes and complex filter combinations that offer a tailored sound with massive energy and high-end.

The Vox Continental's brute design brings you a more hollow tone, but with a very intense character. Both these transistor organs have their own unique, irreplaceable personalities. Combine them with any of the Amp simulations, add some distortion, adjust the EQ and they will definitely get you through any organ gig with flying colors.

The Nord Electro 4D is fitted with physical drawbars of the same type as on our flagship organ, the Nord C2D, perfect for actively shaping the sound on the fly.

The Nord Electro 4 SW73 & HP organ section is identical in features but sports our Digital LED Drawbars.

The organ can be split, for compact dual manual action and its even possible to assign the lower manual to a second MIDI keyboard. Inputs for a Swell pedal and Rotary Speaker control are also available.

The Nord Electro 4 comes loaded with a selection of amazing sounds from the Nord Piano Library, Nord's specialized library for Grand, Upright and Electrical Pianos, Clavinet and Harpsichords.

All the sounds have been recorded using Nord's state-of-the-art sampling techniques to capture the extraordinary nuances and unique characters of the source instruments and covers everything from brilliant, factory new Grand Pianos to detuned upright bar pianos with tons of charm.

The entire Nord Piano Library is included on DVDs and new additions can be downloaded free on the Nord Piano Library page. Replacing the sounds is simply a matter of dragging and dropping files in the Nord Sound Manager for Mac and Windows.

The Long Release feature is suitable for legato playing styles and the String Resonance (Gen 1) feature on Grand and Upright Pianos can be turned off when desired.

185 MB of the Electro 4D memory is dedicated to Nord Piano Library sounds.

The Nord Electro 4 series support the Nord Sample Library, giving you access to our exclusively licensed Mellotron and Chamberlin sounds and a wide selection of quality sounds from leading sample producers. See the Nord Sample Library section to learn more and listen to the more than 1000 the sounds currently available! The Nord Sample library is updated on a regular basis and all new additions can be downloaded for free!

The included Nord Sample Editor makes it possible to add any sound you want to your Electro 4. The Sample Editor can use audio files in the .wav format and has great tools to assist you in getting the results you want. Mapping several samples across the keyboard or creating seamless loops has never been easier.

The Nord Electro 4D has 68 MB of memory dedicated to the Nord Sample Library. Our efficient, lossless compression algorithm makes it's possible for us to fit samples up to three times the size compared to standard linear sample players.

The Electro 4 SW73 & HP feature 128 MB of memory for the Nord Sample Library.

The Nord Electro 4 Effect section features great, tweakable effects for instantly adding some dirt, glimmer or atmosphere to your sound.

The Amp/Speaker simulation now features the same Vintage 122 Rotary Speaker simulations as found in our flagship organ, Nord C2D. Also, there's a flexible Stereo Delay effect with Tap-Tempo and Ping-Pong mode.

The keyboard can be split, and two sounds can be layered on either side of the split point. You can have four simultaneous programs playing at once, and with a movable split point, the possibilities are captivating.

The Nord Lead 2X is 4-part multitimbral, and these four parts are used together in the Performance Mode. The Nord Lead 2X also has 4 assignable outputs, so each performance voice can be routed to its own analog output.

49-note analog synthesizer
Review: The Nord Wave gives you traditional analog sounds that interact and coexist with pretty much anything you want; by combining analog, FM synthesis, wavetable and sampled waveforms, you can use literally any standard audio file as a sound source. It is a great sample player and analog synthesizer, and so much more!

The introduction of sample players in the mid eighties created a gap in the world of synthesizers, a gap that 20 years later only has grown wider. The Nord Wave closes that gap, and brings the user replaceable samples to life again by integrating them in a virtual analog environment. Does the better of 2 worlds sound too pretentious for you? Wait until you have heard the Wave.

The Nord Wave 49-note analog synthesizer brings the user replaceable samples to life again by integrating them in a virtual analog environment.

With the Nord Wave 49, Nord have teamed up with several sample creators, such as Kirk Hunter Studios, Precisionsound and Sonic Reality and licensed some of the very best samples available.

The Nord Wave features compression algorithm, which allows on average, 2 to 3 times data compression of any samples you want to download to the Nord Wave, without any loss of quality.

Flash memory also means that samples are instantly available, meaning fast load times even for complex programs. No hard drive or other type of media is needed for storing samples when you shut down the Wave; once the unit has powered up you have direct access to all the samples at the turn of a knob.

Eurorack module extension for the Mono Lancet
Review: The Vermona Mono Lancet Modular Dock is a eurorack module extension for the Mono Lancet.

The Mono Lancet Modular Dock from Vermona connects to the Vermona Mono Lancet via D-sub to extend its possibilities by adding pulse-width modulation, and frequency modulation, and interaction with other synth modules for the creation of incredible new soundscapes.
$448.73
Review: The Vermona Mono Lancet is a two-oscillator mono synth with basic architecture, adding one filter, one ADSR envelope and one LFO to the equation. It is a compact synthesizer with big sound, easy user interface and charm.

The Vermona Mono Lancet sits on the desktop and is about the size of a typical paperback book. It has a bit of a retro look to it with its cream star-shaped knobs and two-tone brown metal chassis. It tilts forward slightly, making the three rows of knobs easy to read and all the more tweakable.

The Vermona Mono Lancet is primarily triggered via MIDI and supplies both MIDI input and thru ports on the rear. Round the back is the audio out on a quarter-inch jack and a mysterious 25-pin D-sub socket labelled extension. Over on the left is where you plug in the 12V power supply and next to that is a promising little button labelled overkill.

The top row of controls is used for VCO 1 and 2 and its various modulation options. Each oscillator has a three-position switch to choose from pulse and saw waves, plus one extra option either a triangle for Osc 1 or noise for Osc 2. Both have three-position octave switches with Osc 2 sitting one octave higher. It also offers independent de-tuning by up to seven semi-tones in either direction. The pitch of both oscillators is modulated together, and sources include the LFO and the envelope - which provides positive and negative modulation.

The Glide knob adjusts the speed. When the knob's at zero, the glide is off. There is a second glide legato mode available (this only slides the overlapped notes) and this can be switched on or off via MIDI CC 89. This is achieved by sending the designated MIDI CC number below 64 for off and above 64 for on.

4-voice analogue synthesizer
Review: The new PerFourMer is a real analog synthesizer, through its simple control surface and very flexible sound production it is able to offer a near inexhaustible variety of bass, lead, pad and effect sounds. Additionally, with its total of 6 filter inputs, the PerFourMer is also perfectly suited as a complex filter-bank. Even though the PerFourMer is not considered a modular system, it can still be described as a modular or at the very least a semi-modular. The basic concept is reminiscent of classics such as the Oberheim 4 Voice or the Korg Monopoly.

The PerFourMer is a 4 voice synthesizer, consisting of completely independent synthesizers, which can be adjusted and played independently from each other. These 4 synthesizer channels can be linked with each other and be played in 3 different operating modes.

Next to the already mentioned filter inputs, each channel has a single output, which can also be used as an insert for external effect devices, and make it possible to easily integrate the PerFourMer with already established equipment. It is also possible to transmit the unedited VCO signal. Additionally the opportunities of the PerFourMer can be expanded through internal patching between the channels, for example; you can route a VCO through multiple filters and VCAs, or use 2 channels to create 1 voice with 2 ADSR envelopes (1 for VCA and 1 for VCF). Use the PerFourMer as a filter-bank and the slope envelope can be doubled by interconnecting the filter in series. The PerFourMer is controlled via MIDI.

Waldorf is back in the game, with the mighty Blofeld keyboard. This synthesizer offers all the unique qualities that made Waldorf a truly legendary brand. The engine inside the heavy duty, full metal chassis of the Waldorf Blofeld delivers the same fat and rich sound that so many Waldorf users worldwide love when they play their Pulse, q, q+, Micro q, Microwave, Microwave ii/xt, or even the flagship Wave. Yes, you've heard it right. The Blofeld is not only capable of producing beautifully warm, organic analogue sounds known from the q synthesizer line, it also sports a wavetable engine like its predecessors with "wave" in their names. This unique synthesis system is based upon the revolutionary ppg Wave synthesizers of the early 80s. So when you listen to the Waldorf Blofeld for the first time, you will instantly recognize those edgy, hard-hitting and bell-like timbres that have been an integral part of so many world hits from the ppg era on, and become increasingly popular once more. In fact it is amazing to realize that nowadays this complex technology fits into such a slim and elegant device. And for a price no-one would have imagined a couple of years ago. The Blofeld has a gorgeous user interface with a huge graphic display giving you precise visual feedback. Seven endless rotaries plus a volume knob all made of steel invite you to explore the depth and power of Blofeld. Simply amazing.

Mini synthesizer
Review: With the Rocket, Waldorf introduce a new mini synthesizer that boasts a feature set uncommon in its class. With its advanced oscillator section, this small black cube can generate sharp edged leads, gargantuan basses and vast synthesizer soundscapes, that can resound as an 8-voice chord if desired.

The logical layout of the user interface and the choice of available parameters bear witness to the ample experience Waldorf have creating exclusive sound generators. As a result of its heritage all functions that essentially define a synth sound are available for immediate manipulation.

Every knob movement changes the sound directly and with immediate results. The characteristic analog Waldorf multi-mode filter (low/ band/ high pass) can also self oscillate. The integrated boost function intensifies the sound with sheer wickedness. Besides being used for modulation duties, the LFO also contains a flexible arpeggiator that can be synchronized to the outside world using MIDI.

The Rocket is an ideal sound design machine, which in combination with its extremely attractive price, will appeal to any sound designer or musician interested in quality sounds. It works as a stand-alone instrument or in any imaginable music production environment. But its most important feature is of course its sound: a real Waldorf synthesizer, powerful, direct and with a lot of love for the details. Naturally the Rocket is completely designed and built in Germany.
