Review: Bristol based D&B-ster Interface heads to Brighton for his debut release on Friction and K-Tee's Shogun Audio imprint. "Desperate Measures" is all whirring bass, fidgeting drums and quirky programming, which should get the feet dancing and the heart racing on the dancefloor. A big thumbs up for originality here, especially in the dramatic midway breakdown. Accompanying this is "Fallen Angels" with soulful, sultry vocals courtesy Jay Wilcox. A warm, humming bassline glistens below the uplifting vocal work and makes for a winner in our books.

Review: A man more often scene behind the decks than in the studio, the Shogun Audio head honcho brings forth his Someone EP. The eponymous track of the EP, a favourite of Fearne Cotton's no less, is a commercially minded, euphoric, vocal-led banger, featuring vocal work from McClean. A super-slick slice of summery D&B here from the Shogun Assassin. "Flip The Page" is on a more pared down vibe, with whirring b-line, upbeat drums, tinkling melodies and plenty of sparkle. A surefire hit for the ravers. Remixes come from The Prototypes and Rockwell, with the former rising South Coast duo serving up a half step infused effort that comes across as a rougher variant on DJ Fresh's chart chopping endeavors. In contrast Rockwell lays the focus on the emotive potential of those vocals, pitched down, scratched up and placed amidst a restrained arrangement dipped in fuzzy atmospherics and diced up syncopation.

Not content with producing some of the nastiest, wobbliest breakbeat around, they've decided to turn their hand to drum & bass and another release on Jungle Cakes. Lead cut "King Of The Bong O" is a cheeky exercise in bootleg jump-up buffoonery - the sort of tune that boasts a grin a mile wide and a happy dancefloor to match. Flip "Stickybuds Guaranteed" opts for a slightly more old skool jungle approach, mashing up skankin' MC and familiar pop vocals. It goes without saying that both tunes feature stupidly heavy basslines.

Review: D&B darling du jour, Tom "big-in-the-game" Rockwell, makes his debut on Friction's lauded Shogun Audio imprint with this stunning release. Always leaning towards the experimental edge, Rockwell goes in deep with the six and a half minute "Full Circle" - a menacing, moody number with glowing atmospherics, a warm, humming b-line and delicate glitches to keep the tension rolling. "My War", also heavily rinsed by all the big dogs, takes things on a tougher, darker tip with trademark cinematic sounds, and trickling, dribbling rhythms a-plenty and a gruff overtone. It"s a superb, yet sinister utterance, and a fantastic package overall. Let's 'ave it!

Review: Metalheadz are on devastating form right now and they happily slam down the gauntlet with this superb EP. Continuing in the same vein as the previous "Genesis" instalments they present a selection of fresh, upfront drum and bass which simply refuses to adhere to any template. The much heralded Need For Mirrors kick proceedings off with the deadly "Lofar" which sets the tone perfectly before Dutch maestro Nymfo follows with the dark stepper "Conscious Minds". Mikal's "Epic" is the standout track here, a pure streamlined aural assault and finally Critical Impact & Komonazmuk wheel out the Amens on the seriously heavy "Translation".

Review: Having done the rounds on the DJ circuit for a long while now, Jubei's "Patience VIP" finally sees the light of day on Goldie's legendary Metalheadz imprint, backed with a super slick Boddika mix of "Alignment". The original starts with a yearning vocal snatch courtesy of Exit Records boss dBridge and progresses into a tune dominated by rattling breaks, hissing percussion, chiming SFX and the unnerving sound of a blade being sharpened on a stone. Boddika reworks the accompanying "Alignment" into a cool, fidgeting Pearson Sound-meets-Addison Groove style venture which is just downright delectable.

Review: A tidy three track EP from the Metalheadz camp, The Genesis EP kicks off with Horizon's regular Data going in on the deep, minimal vibes with ticking beats, impassioned breathy vocal and tense, metallic chimes. Bournemouth duo Ulterior Motive team up with old friend and Critical hot shot FD for "All That We Are", combining their considerable skills for this stripped back, minimal/tech roller, with crisp breaks and a foreboding undertone. Finishing up with "Feeder" - incidentally Kiat's debut on Metalheadz - it's over and out on an experimental tip, with a bleepy melody bubbling over curious SFX and deep, murmuring b-line below. One for the headz.

Review: S.P.Y has become somewhat synonymous with those hazy summer sounds and soulful, Brazilian vibes. A producer who seems to have got the Midas touch, every collab, production and remix he is involved in is magically transformed into a mass of pure liquid D&B gold. Here he steps up to the fore for another top notch release on Goldie's acclaimed Metalheadz imprint - the title track is a shimmering, understated roller with gently driving energy, waves of undulating bass and crisp, crunching breaks. "Xenomorph", however, provides a glimpse in to the darker side of S.P.Y's consciousness. It's perhaps more what you'd expect from a Metalheadz release - a trademark dark, textured soundscape abounding with echoing SFX, warped b-line and snatches of ominous vocals.

Review: Dynamic brings us a truly enchanting album in the shape of Modal Lounge. "Feel The Way You Do" gets things started with a flurry of rattling breaks, chirpy instrumentals and muffled song, before we move through the lush, lilting rhythms of the aptly named "Fade Away" to woozy, soulful laidback loveliness in cuts like "Manhattan Love Theme" and "Softly Spoken Night". "Nighttrain To Montmartre" continues the romantic theme, with gorgeous, breezy atmospherics. Elsewhere we have the sultry "Modal Lounge" and concluding cut "Old Brooklyn Thing". A great album to unwind to of a summer's evening.

Review: Expect mature sounds and subtle rhythms from this four-track EP on Fokuz. Kicking things off in style, Paul SG introduces us to his sound with "Time Flies" which is all gently tripping breaks, punctuated by delicate hi hats and a rumbling b-line below. Review: Expect uber-stripped back, atmospheric D&B from this next release on Fokuz. As Kredit steps up with the What If EP, he brings with it the most laidback lounge music imaginable with a gentle sonic palette and plenty of blessed-out atmospherics. The title track is all rattling breaks and chiming instrumentals with a lullaby undertone, while "A Glass Of Water", undoubtedly the most minimal of the four, is breathy and barely there. "Close To Me" is all swaying beats and delicate clinking SFX, whilst "Point Of View" is downtempo bliss.

Review: Dynamic steps up with a couple of lush, liquid rollers on the Fokuz imprint; first up is "Memoirs From Neon City" with its fidgety background melody, reverberating vocal element, and firm, thumping drum kicks. It rolls along for the duration with warm sub bass shining through from below and little edits adding interest. Accompanying it is "And We Flew Into The Night" which builds from a shimmering intro full of triangle-like synth sparkles and humming harp strings, into a gentle little ditty with spaced out atmospherics and yearning vocals.

Ky and Deeper Connection step up next with "You're The Only One" - a more weighty, stripped back roller with emphasis on the bass and rolling subs. Review: The follow up from the mighty "Tommy's Theme" which took the D&B and dubstep fraternity by storm recently, the Dutch trio's next venture on Deadmau5's prestigious Mau5trap imprint is "Could This Be". A simmering intro full of tense instrumentals, winding synth lines and gentling smashing snares builds gradually and falls into a reasonably tame outing for the neuro-toting, electro-flirting, genre-defying producers. Despite this, it displays all their prowess brilliantly and there's not much not to like here!

"Close Encounters" is all sombre piano keys, tripping breaks and gentle liquid funk, whilst "If I Were Your Woman" goes in with a throbbing b-line and weight subs; "Street Of Gold" pairs clip-clop beats, horns and discordant keys in a smoky, sultry nodd to the jazz era. Review: Command Strange brings us the epic Episode 91 on Fokuz. A nine-track album of pure quality, this one kicks off with the sumptuous "Miracles" - a heavy, purring bassline underpins crisp, crunching drums and a trance-like synthline. He gets experimental and deep in cuts like "Sweet Nightmare" and the ethereal counterpart "Dreams". Tracks like "Song For You" are exercises in unrestrained yearning, with delicate beats, repressed vocal and a sense of pained beauty. Liquid loveliness comes courtesy of "Days Are Cold" and concluding, piano-chiming finale "Give It To Me". Utterly sublime from start to finish.

Label boss Kasra joins in the fun on "Show Me" which intros with a Robert Owens style vocal before the darkness descends. Finally, "Babyfaced Battleaxe" is a dubstep monster with a catchy old skool vocal hook. Yet another sterling effort from the Critical camp.

Review: Critical is a label synonymous with quality drum and bass and Kasra's latest signing, Stray, isn't about to disappoint. Kicking off with an eerie, horror movie style atmosphere and stripped down beats, the intro on "Erase" sets the mood nicely. With a growling bass, sprinkling of breaks and a dark, moody vibe, this minimal track drops heavily with enough weight for the dancefloor. "Locked Up" on the flip side is a much more uplifting affair, with thought provoking melodies, rolling breaks and a warm bassline..
