Review:
Zero T's dreadnought-heavy bass in his remix of "Lightweight" is anything but. We can only imagine he's being sarcastic. Lucidly wriggling and squirming through tight breaks and booming kick drums, there's a real feeling of movement in this track, of not only stepping forward but reacting in a huge depth of sound. Really impressive stuff. Mutated Forms have had a string of heavy-as-you-like releases on a number of impressive labels since they broke into the scene with their own brand of filthy beats. Their VIP of fan favourite "Best Served Cold" proves their might is heavier than their bite, adding slick rhythms and a big fat bassline to an already impeccable dance floor filler. Both tracks are killing it in clubs already, don't sleep.

Review:
Following the liquid vibes of the delightful Soul Waves EP on Liquid Drops, MSDOS returns to the label with fresh UK talent Payback for an album of collaborative soulful vibes. "Soul Searching" opens with a combination of nostalgic piano tones and distant diva vocals, while "Only You" has subtle hints of jazz saxophone buried within its deep subs. Tracks like "Sweet Enigma" and "All My Peeps" meanwhile are given a more abstract edge with their cavernous staccato dub chords, all held down with insistent rolling drums and viscous bass, though our pick is the brilliant "Inspired", with its distorted vocal monologue, sweeping pads and phased jackhammer rhythms. On the basis of this collaboration, Payback should well be a talent to watch very closely indeed.

Review:
Not content with putting up with a winter that's outstaying its welcome, Innerground have begun to piece together a work collective that shows off the sundrenched atmospherics of the Brazilian drum and bass scene. Headed up by DJ Marky and S.P.Y, the first track is of course "Yellow Shoes" but with a twist; adding that classic Calibre warmth to drum and bass' ultimate summer anthem tones down the glare, making it much more accessible to those of us bleached by a thousand months of rain and sleet. "Summer Soul" is far less accommodating however, and as the title suggests, it's a Submorphics-flavoured roll through the bassy summer days and soulful vocals that have become a staple of the Brazilian scene. A perfect excuse to ramp up the heating and crack open some Brahmas.

Review:
Ram's little sister label continues its run of good form with a four-track EP from artists including Nitri, Audio & Meth, Eastcolours and Paul B. Expect suitably top notch D&B here on a slightly deeper tip than you might expect from Ram. First up is "Concentration" by Nitri which is all wailing vocals, fidgety Rockwell-esque beats and an eerie mood throughout. Next is Audio & Meth's "Alone" which is a gnarly, tech-ed up monster full of raw, industrial sounds and powerful sub bass. "Murderer" continues the musical narrative, weaving Eastcolours' rough, stabbing beats around punishing bass and enormous warps, before "Drop By Drop" by Paul B finishes things off.

As one of the scene's leading perpetrators in swooning, lyrical jazz and soul-influenced drum & bass, Jazzsticks Recordings have played a blinder with this pairing from burgeoning breakbeat obsessive Madcap and rising Austrian D&B star Paul SG. Rolling in with vintage sounds straight from drum & bass' heyday, Madcap runs things with a deep groove and plenty of hi-hat smashing breaks. "Toxic Cloud" follows the pace with jazzy percussion and dub-influenced sampling to create a bouncing unique sound. Both demand big, bassy systems and the largest of nights.

Review:
Russian jungle. We know what you're thinking - the largest, coldest country in the world offers some truly sterling dark drum & bass efforts to the table, in fact some of the scene's most heavy duty producers are from the darker reaches of Eastern Europe, but jungle has never found it easy to flourish. Of course behind every scene is a mouthpiece and Mashed Youths Records represent the hugely under-represented masses in this very region who live, sleep and breathe breakbeats. Featuring newcomers to the scene like Igit, Ekzo, Se and Smokah, this LP shows that jungle is alive and well way beyond the Balkans. Salute.

Review:
Fierce dub anthem "Lioness" kicks off with chopped and singled-out breaks complimenting Lady Chann's pulse-slowing vocals and hot brass section. Hailed by a huge launch party hosted by the Congo Natty crew and featuring all manner of Leeds dub royalty, this is a huge jungle release for the newly instated Congo Natty Bass label. The flip side features a slick jungle remix of "Lioness" by Serial Killaz badman Vital Elements, adding movement and energy to the original dark anthem. Two completely different sounds woven around one gorgeous vocal, this track needs to be heard and heard loud.

Review:
Fresh, rollin' breaks and roots reggae sampling signals the first track on Soul Rebel's latest signing Scott Allen's "We Nah Run". Close-knitted amens duck and weave around retro guitars as that vintage vocal moves the atmosphere into a clearer focus. A clear club banger, it's just the right balance between jungle and drum & bass to get the masses bouncing. "Toonzragga" is a more stately jungle affair, blasting those sirens and horns from the outset with dancehall beats and big soundboy bass. A mish-mash of classic effects raise a smile while the larger than life riddim keeps feet moving. Skanking crew, get ready.

Review:
Expect some good fun, party vibes from sultry jungle-D&B outfit Nanci & Phoebe on the legendary Congo Natty's label, Congo Natty Bass. First up is the Vital Elements remix of "Notorious" which blends a melting pot of vocals with strumming guitar, pumping drums and tooting jungle SFX. This packs a dancefloor punch but also makes sense for an easy-listening soundtrack of a summer's evening. Accompanying cut is the Congo Natty meets Chopstick dubplate remix is a more sultry, stripped back piece which pays homage to jungle past with plenty of rattling breaks and ragga vocals.
