Review:
A neat little compilation EP from Focuz shows us all what their latest upstarts have to offer to the world of liquid and Drum & bass. Kicking off with Dope's chilling switcher, it's got a stepper bounce but the smooth bassy vibe to pull off any mid-set breakdown. Dynamic plunges in next with a soulful sparkling roller, giving nothing away for the next few tracks which happen to be complete departures from his signature sound. Maceo & The Cracks pump junglist vibes into old school hip hop and James Brown funk, and Presents whips out a clean-cut techy sound perfect for slicing through the abundance of genres already heard along the way. A nice selection.

Review:
Binding soulful D&B with the melancholy cinematics of the more standard European manfestation of the genre has been Austrian duo RoyGreen & Protone's MO since they met back in 2010. Never holding back on the big bass but with a lot of time and effort spent manipulating delicate sound effects and snippets of live instrumentation, their output is always a cut above. Celsius may be a surprise choice of label to avid followers of the pair, however when the tracks are this good, who are we to argue? Head for the dancefloor and get smiling.

Review:
Hardcore and drum & bass; not a combination that's really been explored before but Dose is about to change that with his own blend of hard-hitting beats and OTT cyber atmospherics. "What Lies Beneath" is a sharp departure for Shogun when you look at their releases over the years but it's hard to deny this track's dancefloor appeal to a generation of ravers who want their bass harder than ever before. "Simultaneous" is a whole lot more Shogun, with its deep rolling rhythm and leering, lurching bass. Working on the basis of these two tracks alone, Dose has got a helluva career ahead of him making crowds of people lunge towards the floor in sync. Look out.

Review:
Dark, dangerous jump up doesn't come more destructive than 19 year old newcomer Konichi's brand of noisemaking. Already fully supported by the likes of Hype, Friction, Dillinja and Hazard, he's been busy building up his repertoire to run with the big names at this summer's big events. As you'd expect, "What Can We Do" is a firestorm of bass, tearing up speakers with worrying ferocity. "Don't Start" picks up a more tech-stepper vibe as it gears up to launch yet another patented Konichi bassline. Definitely one to watch, Konichi is already one of the Real Playaz favourites for this year.

Review:
Fresh, rollin' breaks and roots reggae sampling signals the first track on Soul Rebel's latest signing Scott Allen's "We Nah Run". Close-knitted amens duck and weave around retro guitars as that vintage vocal moves the atmosphere into a clearer focus. A clear club banger, it's just the right balance between jungle and drum & bass to get the masses bouncing. "Toonzragga" is a more stately jungle affair, blasting those sirens and horns from the outset with dancehall beats and big soundboy bass. A mish-mash of classic effects raise a smile while the larger than life riddim keeps feet moving. Skanking crew, get ready.
