Review: The mysterious 0311 turns in this beguiling five track EP for Concrete Cut. As a member of the Warsaw based Underground Perception collective, this solo outing skirts the outer limits of future dubstep, seamlessly blending the influences. Opening track "System" is a sign of things to come, a skittering garage beat offset with smooth pads and swirling atmospherics. "Warsaw Dream" offers up a female vocal sample and chord stabs while "It's Not True" strips things right back to the core. "White Shadows" ventures further into garage territory while EP closer "Last Nite" has a quirky downtempo feel.

Review: Inspired by the sounds of Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Ras G and a whole heap of other influential beatmakers, this two piece outfit from Eastern Europe return with their first release of 2011 on Bristol based label Black Acre. Opening with the eponymous track of the EP, 1000 Names ease us in with chopped up, high-pitched vocal snatches (not entirely dissimilar to early Ramadanman work, in fact), strumming rhythms, tropical, clip-clop beats and mellifluous melodic patterns. But then, all of a sudden, we are plunged into "Kaleidoscope" which sends us into a parallel universe where the Warp style intentions laid out in their battleplan become more obvious as fluid rhythms, quirky textured SFX and driving energy transcend all. Finishing up with Lynx & Hellrazor's remix of "Pocket Calculator", we are brought abruptly back to reality by the terse, crunchy beats which punctuate an otherwise synth-laden soundscape. It's that same experimental naughtiness that we've seen before in Lynx tracks such as "Disco Dodo" and more recently "Chess Funk", but now, collaborating with Hellrazor he explores this at a different tempo and in doing so, cements the release as must for all discerning electronic music fans.

Review: When 123MRK's Noname EP dropped in 2011 creating waves all around the dubstep and bass music scene. Moulding the sound of his generation into a style all his own, the Frenchman suddenly found himself held aloft as an innovator as well as simply a producer of sounds. This remixed release of his seminal EP was a lofty undertaking and the finished item features remixes from some of the future dubstep scene's brightest young stars alongside long-time innovators. From Liar's metalic, lo-fi flavours to Troy Gunner's understated clicks and swirls; ViLLAGE's heart-pounding house remodelling to Heblank's old-school twist, even the likes of Pixelord and ReSketch play their garage-influenced hands to create an all-new modern-day canvas of what exactly bass music is right at this moment. It can never be truly defined, but this is a pretty good encyclopedia.

Review: Watch out and gird your loins as 12th Canvas unveils two seriously heavy cuts on Monkey Dub! "Never Be Afraid" is drenched in irony as it preys on fear, kicking off ostentatiously with a series of severing kicks and muffled sci-fi samples. This leads into a gritty, mid range work out with tense, distorting synth wobbles and repressed gory machinations that will have fans of the wobblier side of dubstep jumping for joy. "Gundam" is an equally horrifying number with gunshot beats, whomping bass and gangster sampling. Magnificent!

Review: LA bass crew Smog aren't messing around on this one. 12th Planet's hype command is executed with precision on this follow-up to "The End Is Near". A screaming electro riff bites hard against the half-step swagger and saw-tooth bass; it's nothing but peak-time thrill material. Remix-wise Dirtyphonics and Felguk serve up equally extreme D&B and gutter-breaks versions respectively. Elsewhere it's collabo heaven as he collides with Skrillex and Kill The Noise for a squelchy adventure into 8 bit twinkles and runs head into Antiserum for a jugular-cutting mission into moodiness.
