Review: There are two schools of remixes; one that gently rubs the original and provides a slightly different perspective. Then there are ones that consume the original, spit it back out on the floor and start dancing up and down on it. Prescott's ace original - complete with Dynamite MC and Jah Screechy on mic duties - is included for reference, but these remixes really do take things to that famous 'next level'. Mungo Hi-Fi whizz us up on a deep, percussive tribal flex, Woz fires up his industrial strength breakbeat lasers while Gold adds some turbo-boosted rave synths. On a dubstep tip? On a massive, genre-defying remix package tip more like.

Review: If you judge a producer by their ability to successfully apply a winning formula to a variety of styles, Alix Perez is a master. While drum and bass remains his forte, there's enough on Chroma Chords, his second album, to suggest that he's growing as a producer. This EP discards with the synth-laden head nodders featured on the full album, though the four tracks here do still demonstrate the versatile nature of Chroma Chords. Thus the grimy hip hop of the Metropolis featuring "Blue Print" shares space with the soulful stepping action of "Playing Games" whilst the the excellent vintage Timbaaland does halfstep of "Shadows" (featuring breakout Eglo talent Strange U") joins up with the vicious "Burnout".

Review: Ready for some submarine levels of sub-soaked deep D&B? Then say hello to new Russian duo Andy Pain & Z Connection. Barely bubbling for a year and already the duo have amassed a large enough repertoire to necessitate an album. Sitting somewhere between the icy experimentalia of Bop and the grunting mechanic minimal of Xtrah, each cut here shimmers with space and seemingly bottomless grooves. From the triplet stumbles and far-away vocal of "Textures" to the more snarling, shin-splinting Octane & DLR-style bass roller "Murder", this is a very impressive debut long player.

Review: Benny Page turns up on Dutch label Subway with two incendiary cuts. "Original Killa" finally sees the release fans have been craving, a long lost classic hammered by Youngsta and N Type back in the day. It still stands up now, dripping with low end menace and dubby atmospherics! Accompanying track "Take You Back" features a pitched down vocal line intoning "I'll take you back to the deep dark jungle", which holds its line as smacking drum hits and arppegiated rave synths tumble on top. Tip!

Review: One of the key components in the "drumstep" revolution that's sweeping the airwaves between D&B and dubstep at the moment, Kenny Ken's son Crissy Criss goes in on the Bill Posters' original "Hold On" with all the reckless abandon the 1Xtra DJ regularly displays in his expansive, pedal-to-the-metal mixes. Cavorting breaks are coupled with rave-addled synth chords and whinnying vocals here; not so much falling into the drop as storming into it, with a frenzy of drum rolls, bass wobbles and synth jitters, it's turbo-charged right from the start and doesn't let up until the end. It's got "party" stamped all over it.

Review: London's Bill Posters fuses elements of breaks, electro and dubstep on this latest single, led by the squelch and strings of "Hold On" - a tune that flits between extreme wobble and softer, more trippy build-ups. Review: The sudden attention paid to Jai Paul after a demo of "BTSTU" appeared online last year was truly phenomenal. Blogs around the world sat up and panted, and soon after the BBC and The Guardian to name but a few were on the case in a big way too. Drake's even reportedly sampled it for his upcoming album. It's taken until now for the full finished version to surface for download via XL, and it's certainly been worth the wait. Deliciously warped close-mic harmonies start it off until the enormous, coruscating bassline kicks in over the slo-mo beat. It's heart-warming modern soul at its best, and just as affecting as it sounded the first time around.
