Review:
One of the tracks taken from the forthcoming Benny Tone album (due out in spring this year), "Chrysalis" blends anaesthetised rhythms and clapping beats with soulful vocals from jazz trained vocalist Sacha V. It starts off with an atmospheric intro with clinking, chiming SFX and warm, melodic synths shimmering in the background, slowly building up the layers, but always erring on the side of caution, it remains an understated slice of futuristic electonica for the duration. Bringing in a range of influences, with bass heavy foundations and elements from a range of genres, it will be a sure fire hit for any discerning music fan.

Here we have the self-proclaimed 'new wunderkind of glitchy electrofunk' a rising London producer whose style recalls an even more hyperactive Rustie, and newly signed to Mofo HiFi. Brandishing 6 tracks, this EP demonstrates his aim to 'sound like a mosaic of every great electronic dance style of the past 30 years'. Highlights include the hyperactive "Waterphone Shadows", the shimmering chillwave of "Glass Moon" and the crystalline RnB synth fantasy of "Cybo".

Review:
A natural fit on Skrillex's OWSLA label, Australian electro-breaks star makes his debut on the label with the Tupac-recalling, California-lovin' "Like Boom" featuring rappers Wizard Sleeve, NFA and Kaba Jones. Elsewhere on this ten-track release, Thayer breaks out the distortion and hyper edits on the charged dubstep of "Haters Gonna Hate" and "Facepalm" while "Totalitaria" boasts some explosive, almost jazz-influenced rhythms underneath a sea of wonky leads. Keeping to his breaks roots, "Top of The World" is bound to keep heads nodding as will the gnarled funk of "Rise Up".

The McMash Clan aren't messing around are they? Taking Rico's sweaty "Sauna Pants" and running it through their hype machine, they've generated a physical ear-twister that pumps with hardcore heroism and shakes with Baltimore badness. Timeline's take on "What You Know About Bass" is a switch flipper; cruising on a Miami-bass halfstep with added glitches and grunts, it soon swoons into a slow-motion hip-hop break. Guaranteed to get your floor strutting.

Bass=Win are notorious for their half-step bombs, and we have here a fresh new various artists EP containing some of the best new names on the block. Rico Tubbs and Spenda C go for sub-level-induced, Southern hip hop tip on "ShakeDown", whilst Deep's "Anthem" is an aqueous escapade into jelly-like synths and metallic percussion dabs, all the while surrounded by the sound of the deep and dirrrty Southern crunk. "Bad Bitches" by RatTrap and Jesse Slayter is a fast-paced techno/crunk workout with a seriously twisted drop and Pigeonfox's "Burnout" gives a straight up middle finger to all the haters out there - loud, brash and absolutely tasty!

Ready for a trap attack? Of course you are. Who isn't? Luckily Rico and Will are here with two fine examples of how trap has risen from its ghetto roots and developed into the laser-reaching beast it is today. "Bass Track" opens with an aggressive lick (and a very well known very sample) before building into a crescendo of rush-soaked synths. "Horn Track", meanwhile, adds even more drama to the mix thanks to the heady mix of staccato synthetic horns and, yes, another very very well known sample. Clever. Heavy. Winner.

Review:
Torsten Profrock?s T++ project has continually spread its wings since conception in 2005. Championed by fans of techno, dubstep, experimental and drum & bass alike, his latest EP for Honest Jons (and rumoured to be his last under this monkier) showcases the amalgamation of styles and sounds that has earnt the German such a far reaching fanbase.
If it does prove to be the final T++ release ever, then the alias will have left us with the most expressive and energetic of his works. Adding a real sense of personality, Profrock unearthed a handful of samples of the singer and ndingidi player Ssekinomu, recorded in East Africa in the 1930s and 40s in the label?s vaults for this release. Skilfully, the producer works these snippets into the complex rhythm structures, giving his music a human touch that has never been seen before. Profrock looks to the radical fringe of UK garage for the snapping 2 step vibe in these rhythms that remain central to all four tracks on the EP. This results in a clutch of tracks that take on an immensely tribal and subconsciously innate feel. They morph new structures from the forms of 2 step, techno and drum & bass around which Profrock wraps twisted FX and weighty sub bass to create one whole, throbbing organism. So with quite possibly his final release, T++ leaves us, rather fittingly, with a record that sounds at once both ancient and modern. It has a totally unique tone, like a form of tribal language that can only speak to and be understood by today?s culture through these sub-heavy, atmospheric sounds.
