Russian producer Colorhythm returns on London's Modern Ruin following up some great beats by Breaka, in particular, on the last outing. It's intensely paranoid and nefarious bass music of the deeper strains on the immersive "Lavina" while the title track is drum and bass on downers; imagine playing an Ed Rush & Optical record on -8 and you get the picture. Also of worthy mention is "Bionic" which appears in its original version as well as being remixed by Stayhigh; where the track takes on a life of its own with its juke style stutter vocals, jagged beats and wonky synths firing off all over the place.
Alberta, Canada's Homesick has appeared previously on Philthtrax, Phyla and Ground Mass Music and is back on Philadelphia's Seclusiasis. The label run by Starkey and Dev79 and has previously fronted up with Knight Riderz, Rusko, NastyNasty and Murderbot to name but a few. On the Legendary EP it's certainly a wonky and street level affair from this fledgling producer. He starts off with the deconstructed drum and bass of "Our Storm" which transforms the UK street sound into a warped footwork affair. It's more of a grimey dubstep affair on the rather brooding ghetto technics of "Legendary", while "Don't Look In The Trunk" again takes to creating a fresh rendition on British underground music, tearing apart the retro sound of jungle from yesteryear and starting again, rather convincingly.
ITOA's endless stream of quality bass music ranges from the footwork school of thought to the utterly dubbed-out stepperz style. He's up on Beat Machine this time, and it looks like he's decided to stop somewhere in the middle, offering "Strange Attractor" as the lead tune, a fast-moving, jungle-fuelled frenzy that really turns the whole hardcore continuum on its head. There's a remix from Sully, and this one is a jungle pure-breed, shooting off all of its percussive fury into a dark, break-heavy groove that'll get the heads nodding.
