Review:
Mixing funky breaks with plenty of soul, Belgian nu-funk wizard Zamali dazzles with the slow boogie soul and retro arpeggios of "Blue Mountains", provides warm jazz-funk textures on the bass-poppin' "Jah Youth" and gospel-reared breakbeat on the brass-splattered funk of "Accentuation".

Review:
He's back! Yep, the Belgian master of soul nouveau follows up last year's mini-album, At The Speed Of Light, with another, Soulshine, again on Greek disco imprint Timewarp. Once again we have a sizzling selection of authentic-sounding retro funk grooves that could easily be lifted from an obscure 70s blaxploitation movie. Highlights include the, analogue 70s porno-style soundtrack-isms of "Unite", the strangely baggy sounding "Brassin" and the very literal "Slap It Hard", which does indeed featured a very sternly slapped snare!

Review:
This collection from London-based arch-nerd Zaf (he of the rare music site Zafsmusic.com) should have crate diggers salivating into their well-thumbed copies of Record Collector. It showcases obscure disco and boogie gems released only on "private presses" - those self-released albums and singles that are usually the preserve of uber-diggers with oodles of money to burn. Given the source material, it's no surprise to find Private Wax stuffed with quality fare, from the horn-soaked disco-soul bump of Christian Gaubert's "Sweet Maryline", to the undisputed boogie glory of Jeaney's brilliant "Reservation". Electrofunk diggers should also check 94 East's "If You Feel Like Dancing", the sort of life-affirming synth jam that surely would have been a hit had it not been buried so long.

Review:
A perfect collision of raw and authentic Afro-beat vibes with a funky house sensibility, these remixes by DJ D and Olatunde complement the sounds of Brixton-based Yaaba Funk beautifully. DJ D's Afrosuki mix of "Omanfoa" keeps all the funk from the live guitars, bass and brass but anchors it all to a tight house beat. Olatunde's take on "Nyash! E Go Bite U" gets the beat even more involved, creating a barn-storming mix of chanted vocals and driving drums that doesn't lose momentum for a second and gets more addictive with each listen.

Review:
For the second time, Swedish edit maestro Seegweed blesses GAMM with a set of extremely tasteful extensions. The key to being a cool edit pro is in the selections, and Seegweed smashes it with Willie "Brothers' Gonna Work It Out" Hutch and his hitherto obscure "Slick", which comes chock full of warm, early 70s Blaxploitation motifs. The more raw and Latin-flavoured "Lo Que Dice El Abacu" by Los Munequitos De Matanzas also gets a DJ friendly intro, while Lou Bond's sorrowful and beautiful "To The Establishment" is simply stunning and sounds even better given Seegweed's double-tempo treatment.

Review:
Hailing from New York's hippest district, the Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra are an eleven piece band serving up distinctive, salsafied covers of all manner of indie, rock and underground dance hits. Their sassy, unfussy and surprisingly effective repertoire includes tracks by Arcade Fire, Animal Collective and LCD Soundsystem - all given dancefloor-baiting salsa makeovers that neatly sidestep novelty territory. Here, they turn TV On The Radio's maudlin "Wolf Like Me" into an urgent blast of horn-heavy salsa funk, before turning their attention to Peter, Bjorn & John's singalong classic "Young Folks". Both impress, with the latter's near-anthemic status winning out.
