Barely Breaking Even know that if you're going to release a series of remixed classic underground New York house, you better get the right remixer. Veteran Bronx DJ John Morales is one half M&M productions, who were there at the time and remixing all the greats and the very goods too! Here's 21 unreleased cuts from their vaults, highlights including the deep and percussive "Always There", the synths-meets-funk-meets guitars of "Do What You Want To", the raunchy growler "If You Know Like I Know" and their ragtime-indebted version of stone cold classic "Is It All Over My Face".

There was a time when, if someone called Kev Beadle offered to show you his private collection, you would probably be shopping in Soho and not in its record shops. Well, this Kev Beadle is actually a veteran DJ and broadcaster and yes, he is looking back to the aforementioned time, but here it's all about the contents of those record shops (16 lost nuggets from the jazz scene of the 70s/80s to be precise). Highlights include the slap-bass elasticity of "Dipping", the moody exoticism of "Chekere Son" and the gritty wah-wah funk of "Jessica".

Veteran duo Amadou & Mariam's new long player sees the pair 'extend an invitation' to a place that is, they say, 'more a state of mind than a spot on a map'. Here we have a selection of some of the results of that very invitation: Frikstalers take things in a trippy, Macarena on downers direction, King Coya delivers a hypnotic, synthpoppy gem, it's all about the Mediterranean sunsets with Bomba Estereo, while Sidestepper wraps things up in a simple style with his light and fragile remix of "Cherie".

Bucharest's Gemini Bros are all about classic funk sounds, and here they've enlisted a host of pals to help inject plenty of it into their own tune. "Twin Flavour" is a up-tempo belter, with an incessant rubber bassline and piano/organ riffs. The normally electro-heavy Ursula 1000 delivers an ace, but surprisingly discofied version, Stereo 77 go for trippy bongo acid and finally Pips & Midi Kobain beef up the original, adding plenty of brass and wah-wah guitar in the process.

These days with all this 'is it a movie or is it a video game' shenanigans a la Call of Duty, it's sometimes nice to just go back to the old skool, to the days of Donkey Kong, where life was simple and video games simply entailed the player having to jump over pixelated barrels to save the day. Here Totalcult have done the same thing musically, delivering some raw and crackley old-skool funk grooves, albeit with some tough-but-subtle modern beats. After all, how long before musical barrel jumping gets boring, eh?

Here we have two rare-as-hen's teeth cuts from disco-era boy/girl duo Aurra. They largely released on Salsoul and had the likes of Larry Levan remix them, so you can kind of guess what to expect. "Satisfaction" is classic early 80s electro-boogie that recalls the sleazy glamour of Prince proteges Vanity 6. "My Lovin Is For You" is more the kind of jheri-curled smooth ballad that the likes of Champagne were known for.

Here we have the debut album from self-confessed 'sunshine pop' musician Lucas Arruda. Now 30, Lucas spent his formative years playing in hard rock bands but was converted to soul and jazz by a deadly seductress (a vintage Fender Rhodes actually) in his early 20s. This impressive long-planned long player features a cornucopia of styles and moods, including the lazy 70s soul of opener "Physis", the gentle Rio-funk of "Tamba (Pt1), the smooth vocals of "Who's That Lady?" and the lilting bossa nova of "Alma Nova".

Pretty self-explanatory title here, veteran French producer Patchworks presents two shining examples of his famously exemplary productions. First up is the 2003 Motorcity mix of Metropolitan Jazz Affair's "Yunowhatthislifeez" which is light and breezy with hazy trumpets and laconic, slappy bass. Mr President's "The Best Is Yet To Come" is a thrilling dead ringer for the urgent 70s soul of Curtis Mayfield. Also included is bonus cover of Gershwin's standard "Summertime", turned into a loungey Latino workout by Patchworks himself.

Following on from her recent teaser EP, Freestyle's resident sultry guest warbler Angeline Morrison now presents her much anticipated debut album. As expected it's all about the kitsch exotica, including the previously heard mid century boss nova fantasy of "The Feeling Sublime", the vintage hammond soul of "Fool's Gold", the downbeat jazzy lament of "Perhaps In A Little While" and the 60s go-go frenzy of the album's title track, "Are You Ready Cat? along with seven more blinders. It's taken a while, but we're glad Angeline has finally released an album of her own.

For their next trick, classic cult label Honest Jon's serve up a collection of field recordings of the Mijikenda tribes, made in different spots in and around Mukunguni village, coastal Kenya. There's 14 in total, and it proves a fascinating listen: first track, the creepily percussive "Ndema" is played to sound like a bat, with shrill frequencies intended to heal the village sick, the chant of "Dena" is haunting, "Matatizo" is fantastic acapella pop, while elsewhere multi drums are utilised to chase away "Pepo Mlume", the devil who poisons the imagination. Essential listening.

Once again Honkey Phonk's label boss Jayl Funk takes a backseat to let his roster shine, this time on a split-single. First up in Berlin-dwelling Voodoocuts, with a pulsating slice of brass and bass duelling, classic funk. On the proverbial flip is Morlack with a killer 'Bootsy goes hip-hop' electro-boogie workout.

Hailing from Togo, West Africa, Itadi Bonney is an internationally respected musician. Here Hot Casa have tracked down and reissued one of his most desirable albums, "Itadi", originally released back in the 70s and thought long lost ever since. Recorded live with four musicians in a in a Ghanaian radio station, it features eight rousing political Afro-soul gems intended as a call for peace and unity in Africa, a message still very much needed today.

In a break from their high quality re-issue campaigns, Hot Casa switch focus to the contemporary for their newest release. Fourteen-armed Parisian Latin-funk combo, Setenta, are back with the highly anticipated follow up to their 2010 debut Funky Tombao. Boasting as many tracks as they have arms, "Latin Piece Of Soul" sees the band really fine tune the fusion sound they always sought to achieve, particularly on tracks like the wah-wah and organ freak-out of opener "Colorblind", the Afro-electro-funk of "Guapeta" and the disco influenced "Mambo Machine".

Typically poetic Italian collective Lunare Project 'select and merge styles from different worlds' at sophisticated early evening events (usually on yachts). Don't call them DJs though; they insist they are simply a group of guys who are 'just a little crazy'. This LP sees the guys launch a new compilation series that pays tribute to certain experiences they've had, this one inspired by a certain party held at Grand Hotel Santa Lucia. Included are tracks by fellow lunatics including the elastic funk of Crazy Penis, the jazzy broken beat of Max Sedgley and the velvety synth work of Santorini.
