Review: Following in the footsteps of Fantastic Mr Fox and Blue Daisy, Black Acre bring us another dose of musical brilliance, this time in the shape of new boy on the block Alby Daniels. This Dawn EP is a glorious four-track entity, starting with the title track - a synth-manipulated cut with more than a hint of Joker, echoing whispery vocals and heavy swathes of sound. From there we are taken through the soulful vocal-driven ballad "Her About", to the horns 'n guitar strumming crackle of "Voodoo Holiday" and the one and a half minute finale "Loss Of Ego", which is simply oozing with jazzy Flying Lotus-esque influences.

Review: Dark, dutty flavours coming straight out of Essex from upshot D Cult here for what is only the second release on Triangulum Recordings. The title track of this single is an exercise in repressed aggression. Synths sizzle and basslines tremor mercilessly in "Requiem" but this is all kept in hand somehow by the low slung, weighty rhythms and punishing subs that pervade the entire tune. Ice cold but deadly effective. "Woken" on the other hand, takes things on a deeper tip, with a spaced out intro, wavering, cooing synths and clapping, snapping snares setting the pace. An excellent release all round.

Review: Having headed up the My Style mix and compilation before, Dub Police label boss hands the reigns over to D1, who provides us with a run down of what's hot in dubstep in 2011. Picking out some runaway classics of the year - cuts such as Redlight's enormous "Source 16" with its thunderous, elastic band bassline and booty shaking appeal, Caspa's ode to the underground "Fulham 2 Waterloo" and the bleepy, synth soaring "Turn Me On" from Subscape, which draws the album to a close - alongside some of his own material, it's an on point selection. Review: With the lead track on this EP, "Turn Around", sporting crooning tones from Luke Lowen, it seems like D3adl1ne has a clear sight on breaking through to mass appeal. In the delicate UK Funky framework and drive-time vocals of the track there is a lot of potential for crossover, but the EP doesn't stop there. "Eee" for example plies a definite trade in dub techno dynamics amidst shuffling 2-step beats, while "Everybody" comes from the Joy Orbison school of melancholia in contemporary electronic music. Light, melodic and instantly accessible; D3adl1ne should win over many a fan with his crisp, clean beats.
