Review: The celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of the Acid Jazz label are in full flow and here's yet another nugget re-issued to the sound of popping corks. Mr Washington was a US soul/RnB singer who became hot news in 60s Britain after being stationed here while serving in the US air force. This EP features five songs from this era of his career: the blistering and raw "Holdin On", a spacey, organ-led cover of The Stones' "Jumping Jack Flash", the Dexys-inspiring "Michael (The Lover)" and the racy anthem "High Heel Sneakers".

Review: It's back to the early 90s for the latest re-release from Acid Jazz Records, who are still celebrating 25 years in the business. This album, which dates from 1993, was essentially a one-album collaboration between two separate Acid Jazz artists, Hugh Brooker and Simon 'MC Wildski' Anniky, and perfectly captures the then cool urban sound of the time. The LP still holds up pretty well today especially on tracks like the chilled and dubby "Beads, Things and Flowers", the Massive Attack-esque "Fly Away" and the edgy, wah-wah heavy "Hitch Hike (The Feeling)".

Review: Given their close connections with mod culture, it's perhaps no surprise to find Acid Jazz revisiting the back catalogue of Jimmy James and the Vagabonds, a rhythm and blues, soul and ska combo who were popular on the mod scene in the 1960s. Founded when Jamaican singer Jimmy James moved to London in 1960 and hooked up with local London lads the Vagabonds, the combo produced a series of well-received singles and albums for Pickwick, Decca and others throughout the decade. This four-track EP features a string of vintage cuts, from the chunky soul hustle of the "She's Lookin' Good" and horn-powered "Aunt Dora's Soul Shack", to the laidback sweetness of "Why Must I".
