Alesis 3632 Dual Channel Compressor/Limiter/Gate
Review: The Alesis 3632 Compressor is a follow-up to the 3630 Compressor; the most popular dynamics processor ever made.
The Alesis 3632 Compressor builds on the popular design and features of its predecessor. This easy-to-use unit provides two independent full-featured compressor/ limiters in one compact rack space with excellent sonic quality for any application from studio recording to live sound or broadcast.
The 3632's compressor attack and release times can be automatically set dependent on the source material, or full manual control can be exercised. The unit can function as either two separate processors, or stereo linked to provide true stereo compression. An adjustable expander/gate and very low distortion Voltage Control Amplifiers (VCA) deliver smooth sound.
A sidechain function allows the 3632 Compressor to be placed in an external effects loop, while a second, internal sidechain employs a switchable low-cut filter to help control pumping due to heavy low-frequency content. LED meters on each channel display gain reduction and input/output levels.

Pair of studio monitor speakers
Review: The Alesis M1Active 520 USB is a studio monitoring system designed for professional studio use with an internal digital-audio interface. The M1 Active 520 USB' is a pair of active, bi-amplified, 2-way reference monitors that play from 20000Hz all the way down to 56Hz to cover nearly all frequencies audible to human ears. You can take USB digital signal out of your computer via USB and input it to the M1Active 520 USB for low-noise, low-distortion performance. Priced attractively for any studio's budget, the M1 Active 520 USB perform with linearity, clarity, and neutrality typically reserved for monitors that cost much more.
Alesis built the M1 Active 520 USB around their popular 5" polypropylene low-frequency driver for full, smooth response in the low end and the 1" silk dome high-frequency driver for absolute clarity in the highs. Their custom crossover avoids the crucial vocal midrange, ensuring that your mixes sound the way you recorded them. The low-resonance bass reflex cabinet features radiussed edges to reduce edge diffraction and a tuned port for bass extension. A bass boost switch offers low-frequency enhancement to further accommodate for room conditions requiring a little more output in the low end.
When you reach for the convenient front panel volume control you can be confident that the power you need will be there with 'M1 Active 520 USB's bi-amplified design, delivering 30W per speaker. Like the rest of the M1 Active Series, the 520 USB speakers are magnetically shielded, so there's never an issue of placement near computer screen, LCDs, or hard drives. The front-panel stereo 1/4" headphone output mutes the loudspeakers when connected. When you connect headphones the main volume control automatically switches to controlling the headphone output.
The M1 Active 520 USB feature a large, front-panel, bi-color indicator which indicates presence of signal in blue and clipping in red for instant feedback on system status. Professional quality analog input jacks are located on the rear. 2 balanced 1/4" inputs enable engineers to connect a stereo source or 2 mono sources. For convenient recordings simply connect the stereo output of a mixer. You can create complete recordings with no additional audio interface. The speakers are interconnected using a standard XLR cable for secure, professional connection. For worldwide operation, the M1 Active 520 USB features a voltage-switchable power supply. In addition to their capabilities as traditional monitor loudspeakers, the M1 Active 520 USB monitors contain a USB audio interface. Connected audio sources such as mic preamps and instruments can be recorded directly into your computer at 16bit, 44.1 or 48 kHz. Simply plug the USB cable into your computer. No special drivers required. And when it's time to listen back to your mixes, that same USB cable sends 16bit, 44.1 or 48 kHz, stereo audio from computer to your M1 Active 520 USBs. No more complicated interfaces and messy cable tangles.

Bi-amplified active studio reference monitor speakers
Review: The Alesis Monitor One Active MK2 (Pair) Bi-Amplified Studio Reference Monitors have great accuracy and detailed response in a powered system that's truly affordable.
These biamplified reference monitors offer the incredibly accurate response that perfectly translates to every playback system. Each monitors internal active crossover and custom-designed dual amplifiers ensure an extremely consistent performance under a variety of different studio conditions and program material. The result is a broad, extremely flat frequency response, clear imaging with a wide sweet spot, high power handling and detailed high- and mid-frequency response that only a professional powered monitor can deliver.
The Alesis M1 ACTIVE MKII woofer and tweeter were specifically designed for the most linear, low distortion response in powered monitoring applications. Its 6.5" woofer cone is formulated from non-woven carbon fibre. It's a material that has been used for the skins of combat aircraft wings, since it offers high tensile strength and low weight. In fact, carbon fibre is 25 percent lighter than polypropylene (the most common driver material) and hence provides quicker transient response in the low frequency range for superb bass response as well as a vast improvement in the detail of critical upper-mid frequencies.
The Alesis M1 Active MK II's 1" tweeter dome is made of pure silk, which offers a natural response that aids in preventing ear fatigue during long mix sessions. It also features an internal pole piece mounted phasing plug and is ferrofluid cooled to maintain the best balance of transient response to power handling. 2 audiophile-quality amplifiers-a 75W woofer AMP and a 25W tweeter AMP, were developed for the M1 Active MkII, along with 8th order high- and low-pass electronic crossover filters. The crossover point was carefully chosen at a low 1500Hz, and produces an extremely wide dispersion zone as well as low midrange coloration. Also, the special time alignment circuitry that's been added to the tweeter section of this crossover allows the output of frequencies from the high and low drivers to occur in perfect synchronization, avoiding the time smear that's typical in less advanced powered speakers.
In developing the M1 Active Mk II, the Alesis engineering team discovered that dual font-mounted ports provided the fastest, most coherent and extended low frequency augmentation. Also, the unique offset design of the high frequency driver allows for the flattest frequency and power response in a speaker that offers such wide dispersion. The M1 Active MkII has an attractive mirror-imaged, charcoal- toned cabinet and magnetically-shielded drivers that allow placement in close proximity with computer or video monitors, and offers the added benefit of blending beautifully into your studio's decor without being obtrusive. They may be mounted in either a horizontal or vertical placement to best fit your studio's requirements.

61-key USB keyboard controller
Review: The Alesis Q61 keyboard, which was announced at the NAMM show in California, is the latest addition to its inexpensive Q range of keyboards. The previous models in this range have proved to be massively popular, so the addition of a model with a larger keyboard looks likely to continue the trend. Designed to be an uncomplicated, but well constructed USB controller keyboard, at a price that is affordable, the Q61 succeeds admirably in this regard. With 61 velocity sensitive keys, the keyboard is big enough for most musical pieces to be performed, and expressive enough to ensure that the subtlety of the performance is not lost in translation, so to speak.
The Alesis Q61 maintains the more traditional features of a controller keyboard, with the familiar configuration of pitch-bend wheel and modulation wheel situated to the left of the keys, adding additional performance control. And, should you need to adjust volumes, or tweak other parameters, an assignable data slider is also featured. Whilst the Q61 is designed to be connected primarily via its USB socket, and is powered via the USB bus, a standard MIDI socket ensures that it can be connected to other MIDI equipment (additional 9v power supply required if not connected via USB).
