Review: Jay West is a bit of an unsung hero in many regards. Over the last six years, he's amassed - largely unheralded - an impressive portfolio of releases on a wide range of well thought-of deep house imprints. Here he pops up on another label, Amenti, with the sort of release that should delight those who like their deep house positive, summery, quietly soulful and, crucially, chunky. "Soul On Fire" revolves around a thickset synth bassline, some simple but killer keys and a variety of impressive piano drops. "For So Long" is hookier and loopier, but no less pleasingly sunny - think spiraling jazz keys, choice hip-hop vocal samples and long, drawn-out builds.

Review: For lovers of dusty house grooves that border on dub techno, look no further than Kelvin K's The Testpress EP on Olivier Desmet's San Fran imprint Amenti Music. "Laurel Street (Beginnings)" harbors all the ingredients for a dub house classic; filtered chords, forward pushing kick-hat-clap combos and breathy vocals. "Twelfth Street Tunnel" ventures a little deeper in dub, similar to what you could expect from Jolka. "Good 2 U Yeah" hears KK ramp up the chords, releasing the filter for a little more saw wave action. An acid bassline replaces dubby-house chords in "Nation Time2 with the added bonus of a spoken work vocal. From the get-go this is an EP strictly made for the clubs.
