A prodigious new talent, Italy via London, dubstep-cum-drum n bass producer Aeph makes his debut on Bad Taste, simultaneously marking the tenth release for the imprint. "Bad Wolf" is a crazy electro fuelled dubstep venture, reminiscent of Wolfgang Gartner with a touch of Flux Pavilion in there as flourishing bleepy melodies are paired with big party starting sounds. Aeph tunes into a darker side in tempo changing tear out number "Scumbag" on the flip, which sees rollicking breaks, menacing synth work and a Black Sun Empire style bassline used to great effect. Superb.

Blokhe4d are back with a vengeance, invading our ears with more high-octane, tech-infused neuro mayhem on their ludicrously good Bad Taste Recordings. Title track "Bang The Drum" builds from a drum smashing intro into a cacophony of electro-charged synths, growling bass, grizzled synths and sped up, pedal to the metal beats. It breathlessly continues like this to the end. "Distant" takes things a little less to the extreme, with just as much bass pressure and reverberating tremors dominating the sonic landscape, but on a slightly deeper tip. Expect the unexpected, as Blokhe4d deliver yet another smasher!

Continuing their run of techy tear out bangers, Bad Taste bosses Blokhe4d serve up another stand out smasher of epic proportions. First up is the relentless, synth-driven, electro-infused "Blok-o-theque", which bursts out of the speakers in full force. Then there's the electro remix which takes the tempo down to a pumping gyrating dance-off, before LA Riots get their teeth into it, with fidgety beats and squelchy b-line pressure. Guttural and gutsy, pounding tech beats, whirring synths take over in "Gutter Queen". Blending the industrial, the dark and the grimey in to one, fans of Noisia, Gridlok et al, this one's for you!

The Bad Taste label has consistently impressed us with their output since their arrival on the D&B scene a few years ago. Currently brandishing a tidy roster of artists and maintaining a regular release schedule, the next 12 months look very promising in the Bad Taste camp from where we are and this next offering from hotshot neuro mentalist Joe Ford is no exception. Prepare to witness the powerful, grinding sounds of "Behemoth" with its Noisia-influenced industrial sounds, dense bass and gritty mid range. Accompanying this is "City 17" (not to be confused with the Ed Rush & Optical track of the same name) with its raw, metallic beats and grinding bass. If you like your D&B dark and heavy, then this one's for you.

Sydney based D&B-ster Royalston continues to impress with his latest release on Bad Taste. Fans of the darker and techier side of D&B will be all over this bad boy four-track EP, so make sure you check it out. Kicking things off is the eponymous track of the EP, Sound Of The Rain, which builds from an eerie intro into a deep, meditative slab of darkness with choral elements and epic, booming bass. Things then get upbeat and retro in his remix of the vocal-driven "If That's How You Want It To Be" with chirpy beats and pumping b-line pressure. Next is a collab with Mark Berry - "House Of Mirrors" with a haunted vocal and rising tension, before last but not least "Dead Hollywood" rounds things off with iconic Royalston smashing snares, pummeling bass stabs and deft engineering. This comes highly recommended.

Nice split EP from Sparrow and Loki on the Bad Taste label. First up Loki remixes Sparrow's "Secret", with a brooding, melancholic intro replete with ethereal vocals leading into a subtle yet insistent exploration of melodic D&B. The second track - Loki's "Psych" - offers a marked contrast, with brutal bass hit combining with tremulous low frequencies. In a word, awesome!

Review:
A new name has recently emerged on the ever-reliable Bad Taste Recordings and it is that of the Teddy Killerz. Comin atcha with a unique and aggressive sound that blends tech-y industrial D&B and dubstep together, this next release from them as they team up with NPhonix is just as awesome as ever. First up is title track "Scary" which, true to its name, is frightening from the off with its eerie, creeped out intro, bludgeoning beats and stabbing bass coupled with grinding mid range wobble. "Earth Shaker" is another one which does what it says on the tin with notable aplomb. A sparse intro lulls us into a false sense of security before the aggressive, warping beats kick in and the tune drops with a tumultuous wobble of bass into a thunderous dancefloor destroyer.

Bad Taste should be firmly on the radar of any discerning darkside D&B fan by now. Since they released their Bad Taste Volume 4 comp recently, their signature techstep, neuro and dubstep with a sprinkling of electro and techno has really captured the attention of the bass music scene. Here in the second sampler for the album, the Audio remix of The Upbeats "Tor" heads up the release, with its Spor-meets-Gridlok like tendencies, taught beats and driving energy. Italian up-and-comer and new BT signing Aeph provides a more raucous venture in "Holy Call" with magnificent screeching synths and pummelling bass.

Review:
The first instalment of the Bad Taste compilation series hit the shops back in 2005. Featuring tracks from the likes of Noisia and Chase & Status, the compilation brought Bad Taste to the attention of the world. Now in 2010, the imprint is still going strong and their third volume in the series is set to become the hit that the previous two CDs had become.
Maldini and Vegas, who have been there from the start, remain at the helm of Bad Company UK following the departures of Fresh and dBridge who split to pursue their solo careers. At the helm, Maldini & Vegas' Bad Taste compilations have become a phenomenon with the drum and bass scene. Still as relevant and important to the scene today, Bad Taste Volume 3 showcases the underground sounds of the gritty techstep that the pair do so well together. 1o tracks of the most upfront jungle and drum and bass bring the dark dancefloor vibes of the underground to the masses. Featuring tracks from scene leaders such as Gridlok, Upbeats, Blokhe4d, Optiv, Prolix, and of course Maldini & Vegas, who deliver some exclusive cuts for the compilation, this is a perfect representation of the vibrant scene as we find it tonight. It's deep and dark feel is also peppered with the all important touch of future funk that makes this compilation so distinctively Bad Taste. With support from the album coming from stars such as Friction, DJ Marky, Pendulum and Concord Dawn, Bad Taste Volume 3 looks on course to take the underground over boad and reach the masses.
