BED 010
10 Oct 11 Techno
Review:
Conan is a new Irish producer and judging by Sick Floor, he has an in-depth knowledge of 90s techno. The title track is a warm techy house affair, like the chord-driven releases from Ian Pooley on Force Inc. Ozka delivers a remix with harder beats and an insistent groove, but the Belgian producer can't help but to lapse into the original's sweet chords. "Weekend Worker" is cut from a similar cloth, but the rhythm is more stepping and contemporary and the end result is similar to Shed's Eq'D project - our pick of the bunch. From this point however, the release goes in a darker direction: "Sartini Court" is a visceral, acid-caked peak time techno track and "Re-Use" is a sample-heavy Dave Clarke-style loop track. Very impressive stuff.

02 Mar 10 Minimal/Tech House
Played by: Fish Go Deep, Glenn Keohane(Ng415/K), Juno Recommends Minimal/Tech House, Jamie Behan (Bastardo Electrico)
Review:
Best known for the worldwide smash The Cure and The Cause, Irish duo Fish Go Deep take a slight detour on this latest release. Stepping away from their soulful
House roots, these three tunes see them experiment with deeper, more Minimal sounds and vibes on Cork-based label Bastardo Electrico. Even more sparse and icy than their Dub mix of FreezerRoom's Weapon of Choice from late last year, these are definitely going to tickle the fancy of any fans of Tech and Minimal. Dub Weapon 1 has a no-nonsense, straight line approach with chilly stabs of synth echoing over a rigid mix of kicks and hats. Weapon number 2 adds some drum-machine toms and a building chord progression that slowly reveals itself beautifully over another driving beat. The same beat spills over onto a separate track, Dub Weapon 2.1, which adds up to over 12 minutes of goodness! Whether they're trying out some new excursions in House music, or just trying to finally live up to their name, this EP is indeed deep.
