Review: This debut album from Fabrizio Mammarella's oddly-named Clap Rules trio offers a quirky, offbeat take on electrofunk that's hard to pin down. While there are distinct acid house, dub disco, Italo-disco, P-funk and synth-pop influences, for the most part Golden Hands offers a talkbox/vocoder-heavy fusion of Krystal Klear/Chromeo-ish 80s boogie revivalism and oddball Italian disco-pop. While that may seem on paper like a recipe for audio gorgonzola, it's actually rather splendid. Musically, there's an excellent balance between cheeky dancefloor funk, wonky electronic workouts and lazy, semi-Balearic synthscapes. As a result, the album simply flies by.

First up In Flagranti turn "Oh Uiba" into the kind of stop-start arpeggiated throbber last heard on their brilliant edit of Diana Ross. Mock & Toof - who once upon a time released some excellent Clap Rules material on their now defunct Tiny Sticks label - give "Fantasmi" a slow, sleazy robotoic overhaul, while "Pericoloso" gets a loose limbed Italo tweak by Mr Maloso and the Emperor Machine round off a killer package in appropriate fashion, turning "Silver Mountains" a frankly epic 11-minute extended mix.

Review: For his debut album, Croatian producer Ilija Rudman has decided to further explore his love of early 80s synth disco, vintage electro, Balearica and electro-funk. When he's tried this before, his efforts have been hampered by the digital sheen of noughties nu-disco. Thankfully, The Reveal has no such issues. This time round, he's utilized all manner of vintage synthesizers and drum machines to produce a set that just bristles with original 80s flavour - it's a huge step forward. While he's previously promised much without consistently hitting the mark, The Reveal really delivers, flitting positively between slo-mo P-Funk jams, mid 80s piano grooves, "Nightdubbing" style instrumentals and dubbed-out electro workouts.

Review: Having previously remixed legendary French group Space and contributed to Nang's John Carpenter Aspect with a version of the "Escape From New York" theme, Belgium's King DJ further adds to his sci fi disco credentials with this EP for Bear Funk. "Attack Of The Killer Monks" is resolutely Martian disco, the groove lifted from the theme to a forgotten early 80s b movie and slapped on a killer bassline. 'Clothes and Counters' is a more spritely affair, the lead lines swirling disco keys descend in the mud of wah wah guitar and chugging bassline for a killer break down. On remix duty are the Glimmers who (with a spot of help from Ray Mang) turn in a dubbed out thumper of "Attack Of The Killer Monks" centred around the bass line groove with some added grunts for good measure.

Review: A collaboration between two men who rule the roost in terms of all things disco, Stevie Kotey and Italian producer Bottin turn out a cosmic winner on Kotey's Bear Funk label. Ahead of a full album from Kotey Extra Band in Easter, this single will delight any fans of Todd Terje, Padded Cell and Lindstrom. Bottin's "Expresso Dub" version adds some spacey atmospherics but still keeps it focused on the floor, while Fernando's mix adds a deeper driving groove that complements the original nicely.

IFM - Back In The Days EP

Getting their first release on the prestigious Uzuri label, IFM is an interesting side project for Marcello Napoletano and Francesco Schito, and a rewarding one for fans of quality house music. While all the tunes on the EP have the potential to keep a floor sitting up and taking notice, "Miles" is probably the standout. With a funky step as well as a kick that'll make the club's soundman start to panic, it's definitely one to check out asap.
