Review: Celebrating a storming first year, the Blunted Robots crew release their fifth single. Following awesome tunes like "Citizens Dub", Mickey Pearce's "Innami" and Martin Kemp's "No Charisma", Kemp's brother Brackles joins forces with Shortstuff and Nottingham mic-wielder Terrible Shock on this scorching hot new single, "Good Foundation". Only 24 years old and already something of a UKF veteran, Brackles' way with a beat is well known, but this collaboration really adds a flavour hitherto heard before. It's infectious stuff - fidgety and soulful at the same time - and with an instrumental and acapella included also, is bound to get rinsed pretty sharpish. A true king of funky, Ten Thousand Yen boss Doc Daneeka gets involved on the remix front and delivers a nice contrast - smoothing things out a little and going for an almost exclusively percussion-filled mix, all of which lets the vocals shine through nicely and as always, DD's kicks, snares and claps are peerlessly arranged. Five down, let's hope for many more ace singles like this from Blunted Robots next year.

Review: Dropped on DVA's XLR8R mix from the end of last year, Dark Sky's "High Rise" finally gets a release on Blunted Robots and it may well be their best release to date. Tightly crafted minimal beats and glacial pads rule the roost on "High Rise", while a bassline constructed from percussion hits maintains the energy on this UKF future-classic. "Armour" is on the flip with a more fleshed-out and mean vibe running throughout - check out those hyped, rattlesnake snares for example - and the ocean deep chords on the breakdowns. Heavy stuff.

Review: A proper heater of a tune, Kemp's "Wot U Got" is already getting plays from Brodinski and Joy Orbison and it's destined to get a lot more. With some full on clattering snares and ghost-like vocal shots disappearing in and out of the mix, it's a proper after-dark treat with a dizzying vibe that won't get tired any time soon. "Fix" is only slightly less hectic and hypnotic, and both are well worth a look-in for fans of modern 2-step.
