Boxon Recordings France At Juno Download

Review: Having previously released The Hole EP in July and attracted the praise of mighty kindred spirits like Mr Oizo, Das Glow and Zombie Nation, Siberian producer Eclier is back and sounding even better on this anthemic and mind-altering piece of warped electro. The title song smashes together sampled guitar chords a la "Robot Rock" and some wild, pitch-shifted melodies for a vocodered classic. "Rockfall" is slightly more conventional, with some full-on 303 tweaking going on while "Spider" fits right into Boxon's house sound with some aggy distortion-bass and punchy disco drums vying for attention. Highly recommended stuff.

Review: Like a distant cousin of Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder's I Feel Love, Human Life's We Won't Stop is a delicious synth-addled piece of electro that's both poppy and heavy - a perfect antidote to soulless and predictable dancefloor fodder. Tom Deluxx also gets his hands on it and twists it into a bleepy and tense raver, while Low Concept's mix has a lot of fun with the arrangement, as well as adding some bouncy vocoder stabs into the mix too.

Review: After the hardcore electro-meets-metal thrills of Moshpit's debut album on Boxon comes this remix package that sees "Teenage Anthem" getting destroyed by Dilemn (who buries the vocals underneath 50ft of distortion), while Kode-X beat-repeats the vocals on "Souvenirs" and "Other Tumours" into sublime submission. The heaviness spills over onto Me Against Me's crunchy mix of "Sell Outs Until Death", which melds the vocals into the synths for a crazy assault on your ears, while BeeGood treat "Souvenirs" to a full-on metal guitar display. Bags of fun but not for the faint- hearted!

Review: Following on from their recent "You Can Call Me Daddy" single, French duo Parker & Lewis drop this newie on Boxon and it's a huge, invigorating piece of no-nonsense, 'let's have it' electro, featuring octave-climbing synths and stacked drums. The mighty Calvertron takes it in a dubstep direction on his mix however, while DJ Gero's version features a bassline uncannily similar to Sparks' Moroder-produced "Tryouts For The Human Race", which is obviously no bad thing at all. D Fine seals the deal with a hectic juke mix that makes great use of a 2 Live Crew sample as well as some cosmic synth hits.

Review: Showing off the dearth of electro talent that French label Boxon has uncovered has become an annual event. Last year's compilation, Boxon Makes Me Happy, showed off 2008's best in show and now they're back to show off their most recent discoveries with Boxon Makes Me Crazy. It's a global effort, with artists from around the world released on the label, and a lot of different styles to boot.

Bryan Shower's Intro kicks things off nicely with some heavy riffing distorted keyboards, similar to Daft Punk's Aerodynamic, and a break into what could well be a violin solo (heavily distorted too of course). Bernard Blade's Dogs Anthem again breaks out the distortion box to provide some fun and furious electro goodness. Andre Conde's From Jupiter To The Moon is a real highlight, complete with a kick ass 80's-styled vocal and oodles of sequenced slap bass bouncing up all over the track.

Elsewhere, the space-age sounds on Elomak's Biometric is well worth a listen, as well as the incredible walls of sound on The Louder Lads'

Full Throttle. United Chemical's Fidget Paradize is exactly that - a treat for fans of wobbly synths set against a tough 125bpm beat that features some huge chunky build-up's. Hungry Sam's Get Paper meanwhile has more of an indie club feel, courtesy of vocals by Punkin, while Breaking News' Get Ready For This is probably the most unexpected thing on the whole compilation - a cover of Dutch Europop gods 2 Unlimited! There are some really great electro nuggets on here though - thank heavens Boxon have done the leg work and sought them out yet again.

Review: French electro-punks Wat previously dropped their Wonder album which contained the furious "Kill Kill" on it. Now, Boxon have excavated it for this huge remix EP featuring some of Europe's most rinsing producers. Wat's original (featuring CS Rucker on the mic) is here in all its chunky hip-hop glory, while Turkish duo Gooseflesh up the BPM's and rejig "Kill Kill" into an ebullient and fun-filled electro smasher. Frenchman Costello goes the same route, with some ace Dutch-style bleep leads that have already found a place on Kissy Sell Out's Radio 1 show, while Beat Torrent maintain the original head-nodding tempo for a bass-heavy breaks mix.

Review: Describing their sound as "Moroder meets RATM", French outfit WAT drop their rather epic debut album on Boxon and it packs an enormous punch. Tunes like "Now: System" combine the ferocity of rock with a deep appreciation of heavy synths and belly-rumbling basslines. Throwing everything into the melting pot, they even draw on early 80s boogie on "Hot Dog Story" and Air-like chill-out on "Circus Circus". A real rollercoaster ride of an album, get ready to strap yourself in.
