Review: A ridiculously fun remix package of Danish breakbeat guru Badboe. For the uninitiated, Badboe has developed a style that has clear echoes of 60s and 70s funk yet still fits seamlessly into the modern musical landscape. This man has dipped his toe in almost any genre you care to name - from house to trance; hardcore to trip-hop. On Break The Funk we see his superlative breakbeat jams remixed by the genre's cognoscenti, with the insouciant Fuzzbox Inc remix of "Lose Your Funky Self" and the junkyard percussion on the Pulp Fusion reshape of "Funky Intro" among the many highlights on offer here.

Review: Boe "Badboe" Pedersen has always been one of he more reliable sources of floor friendly, funk-laden breaks jams. While his style sticks to the tried-and-tested, there's a quality present that's often lacking in similar breakbeat productions. Pump Up The Funk, his second full length, has plenty of dancefloor chops. It features a range of cuts created using snappy rhythms, familiar hip-hop samples (Missy Elliot and Redman are both notable inclusions) and fat funk grooves. There's a casual swing and groove to the material that's endearing, too - something that can't be said about many of his competitors' creations. If breakbeat is your bag, this comes highly recommended.

Impressive moments are plentiful. Review: Ignoring the title for a moment (surely it should be "Let Go Of The Past"!?), this dubwise bass music shuffler from Fretless is a lot of fun. The original version is a bit of a curiosity, sitting somewhere between dubstep, breaks and radio-friendly pop with silky-smooth vocals amd ruffneck toasting from MC Shureshock. Will Styles remixes, upping the wobble factor for those who enjoy being slapped round the chops with botty-bothering bass. Virtual flipside "SOS" offers something a little more traditional, mixing sharp horns and other funk elements with P-funk squiggles, thick bass pulses and faithfully snappy breaks. A solid package is rounded off by a jaunty, P-funk flavoured remix from Omegaman. Highly recommended.

Review: It's a trumpet sandwich here as Joe runs the nu-funk gamut with consummate ease and tongue-in-cheek fun. "Swinging Joe" takes the quirky 1920s standard "Dipsy Doodle" and gives it a respectful bass injection from behind while the EP finale "Java Java" ends on a similar horn-heavy swing, this time clicking more of a Latino riddim. Review: Jiggy Joe (that's his real name, we've checked his birth certificate) has been a little silent since his previous three bootleg bonus packs came our way last year, but it's clear he's been busy toiling away at his machines to create this monster selection. He leads with "Didgeridoo" which sounds like the Chems circa Exit Planet Dust but with added hype-fuelled lyrics. The two remixes by Bobby C and Funkanomics take it to completely different party pastures, making it a great release in its own right before you even get to the cheeky reworks elsewhere on the package. "Sweets For The Tiger" is the balls out theme Rocky would've endured a million montages for. "Ready Or What?" is the best Fugees remake since Hype got heavy on them years ago while "Tell Me Do You Like It" sees Joe taking a Mylo-favoured sample and making it his very own. Get Jiggy!

Review: Last seen lurking on the label's cracking Pump Up The Funk collection, Devellis returns with his first full EP in a long, long time. Littered with samples and very cool grooves, the whole EP is a doozy but here's a few more details in case you're undecided; "High Freedom" is a summer-stunned block rocker with more sneaky hip-hop vox than a Compton recording booth. "Over & Under", meanwhile, takes a more laid back jazzier approach with a rap that doesn't sound too far away from Method Man. "Ryder Classic" takes us to a more authentic early 70s funk club and makes us swing until we're dazzled and dizzy while "Turtle Love" blends the Beasties with Daft Punk and whole series of lush horns. Review: Breakbeat Paradise continue their commendable services to ghetto funk freaks across the globe with this rather delicious four track from French funkateer Morlack. Review: French breaks head Morlack returns to the BBP label after his first "Ghetto Vaccination" release for them a few years back with this sample-tastic, funk 'n' breaks work out. Lead song "Take It To The Zulu" gets split into two parts - one bearing a huge nod to Afro-tribal house and the other leaning on more of haunted hip-hop tip. "Get It Hot" however switches up styles into a jazz-funk blitz while "See The Light" goes all out soulful with some excellent mellow jazz samples layered over kicking breaks drums.

Review: This solid four-tracker from fast-rising German breakbeat geezer Myniemo offers plenty of thrills and spills amongst a quartet of formidably floor-friendly neck-snappers. The urgent, hip-hop sampling rock/breaks crossover cut "Discplex" launches proceedings, powering forwards thanks to some colossal wobble bass and silly vocals (something about tacos, apparently). "I'm Walking" tightens things up, utilising scratches and guitar solos to whip up a dancefloor frenzy. "Boom" mashes up old skool electro, B-more and ragga, all high-pitched vocals and booming synth bass, while "Hasta Pronto" somehow fuses breakbeat and flemenco!

Review: Lyrics paying homage to one of the world's funkiest individuals, delivered with dark, pitched-down undertones. On paper this really shouldn't work. In reality it ruddy rocks. This is largely thanks to Prosper & Azaxx's quirky, off-beat shuffle groove underneath. Think Music For Freaks and you get the picture. Remix-wise Basement Freaks adds more of a breakbeat electro bite to the mix, Adam Polo adds a soaring riff and feel-good p-funk and Niko strips it down to a slinkier groove that flips between classic US and grittier UKG.

Highlights abound throughout this raucous bass-bizzled nu-funk adventure but only a twit wouldn't pack Badboe's rub of Kool Hertz En Vouge sampling sizzle-up "Whatta Joint", JiggyJoe's orchestral disco-strung halfstepper rub of Calagad 13's "Back To The Power" or Badboe's take on Rudd's Supremes-slicing "Shake It Out". Paradise found.
