Review: Ever-reliable Chestplate bring us another killer release, this time from the man like Cyrus - a veritable dubstep don who impresses once again with this stark, stripped back release. First up is "Nostalgia", a beautifully minimal piece with a single thumping beat and ticking snare setting the scene in the intro with a reverberating vocal snippet. "Rupture" is slightly more aggressive from the off, with a discordant pounding and eerie vocal, plus razor sharp snares adding to the already murky soundscape.

Review: What a double-up! Chestplate boss Distance and Croydon loyalist Cyrus get busy over two different dubstep vibes and come up with two exceptional cuts. "Titan" is the bastard half-speed son of neuro D&B and heavy metal in its make-up. Industrial, gritty and unforgiving, it's utter mechanical filth! "Rude" meanwhile couldn't be sexier; squeezing the subs as low and as fat as they'll go, the duo have created one of the most authentic dubwise records the scene has seen for a long time.

Review: As the dancefloor still rumbles with the after effects of his double A with Tunnidge earlier this year, Distance returns to Chestplate with yet more bass drama. "A Result Of Sound" carries the hallmarks of his more emotive material that we've enjoyed on his albums on Planet Mu. Paranoid and post apocalyptic, the synths play just as much as a role in this as the absurdly weighted bass does. "Deserted", meanwhile, is the true club bomb; sprung with poly-rhythmic kicks and groaning lead lines, this will raise more hairs on your dancefloor than London's notorious wig thief in 1938.

Review: For the 14th release on Chestplate, label boss Distance gets murky and menacing with this sumptuous four-track venture into bass music. Opening track "Drawn" is a synth heavy number, with crackling SFX, smacking drums and a heavy, lethargic dragging bassline. "Knowing" is another gruelling cut with bubbling bass, snapping snares and metallic SFX, which leads into the title track "Meanstreak" - a whomping, dancefloor driven beast with mid range belches and squelchy flavours. "Mind Control" completes the EP with a more traditional Distance cut - punishing subs, eerie vocal samples and sludgy b-line in abundance. Brilliant.

Review: For some rock/dubstep crossover, look no further than Distance's latest, "Menace". Hearing a solid wall of 'steppy bass processed to sound like a heavy metal guitar, you'll think that Eddie Van Halen has suddenly started leasing a flat in Croydon. It's a strange combination, but it works somehow as it riffs along like a wonky Sepultura. In total contrast, "Beyond" is an atmospheric, almost ambient dubstep adventure, with a flute taking the lead instead of metal-imitating bass. A single of wild extremes, these two tunes certainly demand a listen.

Review: If you're looking for a lesson in how to totally murder it with a single vocal loop then look no further than "Transmission". Tripped out, tight and mind-boggling, it builds up with a guttural, industrial riff to chaotic effect. "LV-223" is more your techno flavoured slice of steppery. Dungeon depths and slimy subs; this is for the most tribal of tear-ups, while "Antidote" flips back to the genre's halfstep roots. Spacious and engaging with a series of well textured bass leads, it rolls and develops with production panache; "Kraken" ends with fitting gusto. If you're looking for a lesson in how to totally murder it with a dramatic orchestral sample then look no further.

Review: As always, Chestplate delivers. This time it's from District who brings us "Painting The Mind", a glorious three-track beauty full of dark, warping sub bass and plenty of deep, throbbing menace. The title track kicks things off with thudding beats reverberating in an empty, dubbed out soundscape. Eerie warps and tremors kick in and punctuate the track, adding even more ominous vibes to the proceedings. Next is the grouchy rambunctiousness of "Modulate" with smashing snares and grizzly bass and last of all, digital bonus track "Backwards" brings things to an almighty close.

Review: Leading member of London's Anti Social crew, Razor gets deep on this brain-teasing trio. Don't be fooled by the title: while "Bang Ya Door" might suggest a hundred bailiffs charging your porch for all and sundry, it's actually far more meditative and spacious. Sure the bass grizzles with true peril, but the darkness never gets out of hand. "Kickstart" does, however, live up to its name. Loopy, warped and sneering with ripples of wasp-like bass, this will ignite any dubstep party. "Taurus" finishes the set. A digital exclusive, this percussive groove slams with bullish techy merriment.

Review: Another sterling release here, courtesy of Distance's Chestplate imprint as Razor Rekta steps up with two bonafide dubstep bangers, plus a digital bonus track to boot! Take note. First up we have the exceptional "Loko-Motiv", which is all slow, swaggering beats, with smashing snares echoing in a deep, dark soundscape full of echoes, pools of treacle-like bass and low end shudders. "Development" continues the narrative with thunderous bass wobbles which reverberate ominously for the duration, whilst an eerie melody hovers above. This is meditative, bass-driven dubstep at it's very best. Play on a big rig and soak up the sounds.

"Zombies" is every bit as scary as the name might imply - a post-apocalyptic, industrial soundscape dominated by spaced out SFX, sweeping atmospherics and gruesome, stabbing drums and a dense, pummelling b-line. "Scanners" progresses from a tense, uncertain intro into a rolling, menacing little number, with tripping beats and grouchy bass. Review: "Brixton Bass" - this whole EP oozes the confidence and attitude needed for London's more notorious suburbs. The title track is a hammering bass loop that takes a twisted turn at the drop of every refrain; "Wardrum" is more mechanical and tribal with live cymbals augmenting the heavy nods. As for "Dark Future", let's just say we hope Tunnidge isn't a fortune teller on the sly... If this is future things are going to evil, cold and unforgiving.
